I can see it would be difficult. I know that I usually don't pay attention to the text chat area so I would not notice if someone typed a message to me. At least I wouldn't notice quickly. If I talk to someone and they type in response, I would see that. I would just assume they have no mic or haven't bothered to configure voice chat properly. There is software that will allow you to play various recorded sounds through in game voice. Perhaps you cold have someone record a selection of common statements and responses for you and use that? Of course you'll need a recording saying, "This is pre-recorded, I can't speak, please read text chat."

DayZ SA ~ Cannot talk or hear direct chat.
Hutch (DayZ) replied to rhino177's topic in General Discussion
The Arma engine uses TCP/UDP port 2304 for VON. If your firewall is blocking that for some reason you won't be able to talk or hear anyone. It won't affect text chat though. I don't think text and voice are connected so it doesn't make sense for text chat to not work. https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_FAQ#Is_VOIP_implemented_in_ArmA.3F -
[Help me, wise gamers] Long distance Flickering on a "gaming" rig !
Hutch (DayZ) replied to paradogz's topic in Troubleshooting
Happens to me all the time. I think it's normal behavior in the current state of the game development. The game is switching textures to lower resolution depending on your distance. It happens much less on the current test branch -
You got killed during the 30 second logout (disconnect) timer.

Incorrect reticle positioning is seriously confusing me
Hutch (DayZ) replied to Estyles's topic in General Discussion
That Dot is not a recticle. It's not meant for aiming your weapon. It's primary purpose is to make it easier to point to an object to interact with. For aiming a gun you need to right click and use the gun sights. -
My guess is your character got killed after you got disconnected. When you log out (or get kicked, or disconnect for any reason) your character will remain on the server for 30 seconds. Your character goes into a sitting position for that 30 seconds and can be killed by anyone nearby. If you were prone, you sat up and were an easy target.

Legs broken. Figure it out.

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/153994-early-access-important-information-known-issues/ Quote: "Do not buy the game yet!" - Rocket The controls are virtually identical to any other FPS game on the PC. Standard WASD controls. If your character lays down when you try to walk it means his legs are broken and he will crawl forward instead.

Try playing something else. It sounds like DayZ isn't the game for you.

I bought SSD disk as Dean rocket recommended, but

^ TRUTH If a laptop and a desktop have the exact same system specs, the desktop will still outperform the laptop every time, and it will cost half as much. -

Hutch (DayZ) replied to Rivals.Joho's topic in General Discussion
An SSD WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR FRAME RATE. Not even a fraction of 1 fps. Your frame rate is determined by your graphics card, your CPU and your RAM. An SSD will shorten your load time and prevent or shorten stutters and momentary freezes when the game loads data from disk. It will only affect disk access which is not a factor in frame rate. A core i7 (assuming quad core) with 8GB of ram should be sufficient for a decent frame rate. Assuming you're not running a bunch of other applications in the background eating up your CPU time. This game is very CPU dependent so make sure your CPU isn't busy doing anything else. Check your windows Power Options and make sure you're in "High Performance" mode and not "Balanced" or "Power Saver" mode. Power saving modes can shut down CPU cores to save power. Your GPU my be a limiting factor but you can fix that by lowering your graphics settings a bit. I'm running Quad Core i7 with 16GB of ram and a GTX 660 GPU and I get 50-60FPS dropping to 40FPS sometimes in cities like Cherno. It's counter intuitive but dropping some settings to low might actually decrease your frame rate. I get better frame rates with shadows and object details set to normal than I did with them set to low. So if you have many of your settings at low, try raising them and see how that affects your frame rate. -
You need to increase the ping limit on your filter. The default is to hide any servers over 100ms, but all of the experimental servers are over 100ms for me. The two US servers must be on the east coast and the others must be in Europe or Oceania because they are all over 200ms for me.

Persistent Container AKA Tents? coming next update
Hutch (DayZ) replied to punkvegita's topic in General Discussion
Noooooooooo..... No Persistent storage please. Death should have some consequences. -
the vSync option will lock it to the refresh rate of your monitor. That is to say, no faster than. Of course frames may render slower depending on the computer and what you're doing at the time. If you're getting low frame rates, you can't do much about that except get a faster PC. The only reason to lock it I can think of is for video capture. Fraps can capture at fixed frame rates regardless of the games frame rate. In fact I think that when you're recording with Fraps your frame rate is locked to the recording frame rate.

Rocket has said in the past that the "Infected" aren't dead or undead. They are living but infected with a brain virus. Therefore as easy to kill as any human, give or take, with an increased pain tolerance.

What to expect from the Ruger 10/22
Hutch (DayZ) replied to JalapaJuiceJerry's topic in General Discussion
As I said in another post. It will depend on the ammo. Mini-Mag is 1250FPS, much faster than "Standard Velocity" Also, light bleeding, not heavy. Again, it's a tiny hole and it doesn't widen out inside like larger calibers. Sidenote: Love Eric and Barry, watch them all the time. I wish Barry would come back. Eric alone isn't as good. -
Neutral safe zones that physically prevent combat
Hutch (DayZ) replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Yeah. Price you pay for a "safe zone". Is it better that anyone can shoot anyone inside and outside the church, or only outside. Doesn't make much difference. -
What to expect from the Ruger 10/22
Hutch (DayZ) replied to JalapaJuiceJerry's topic in General Discussion
Agreed, but that nick is not going to stop you in your tracks. Hit me in the liver, the kidneys, the gut, whatever, I'm going to have a bad time, but not rapid unconsciousness. I'm still going to be awake for hours and capable of beating you to death with your rifle. Even a hit in the lungs is going to take a few minutes to be disabling. -

I consider churches to be safe zones. I won't shoot anyone in a church and wouldn't mind if "Friendly Fire" was disabled in Churches. -
What to expect from the Ruger 10/22
Hutch (DayZ) replied to JalapaJuiceJerry's topic in General Discussion
As for how many inches of plywood or how many gatorade bottles a .22LR will go though ... It's gonna depend on the rifle, barrel length and on the type of ammo. .22LR comes in many different varieties with different velocities. "Standard" velocity is ~1050FPS but most ammo you find is a bit hotter at ~1250fps or more. Faster loads will of course go though a gatorade bottle or plywood at 100 yards, but standard or subsonic loads may not. Also, the barrel length makes a difference. In general the longer the barrel the faster it goes. A 10/22 is normally a Carbine with a short(ish) barrel of only 16 - 18 inches. Also, a bolt action rifle should shoot a bit faster than an autoloader because some energy is lost in cycling the bolt. There's no breach locking mechanism on the 10/22, it's only the weight of the bolt that keeps the chamber closed until the bullet leaves the barrel. All this combined means that a 10/22 shooting subsonic ammo is gonna have a hard time penetrating anything at range. And even if it did, remember, it makes a tiny hole. No rapid drop in blood pressure and you won't bleed to death for hours. -
It's crazy. There's so few resources I have to kill (or try to) anyone I run across just to see if they have any food. Unfortunately, nobody does. People everywhere you go. Little two house village in the middle of nowhere? Yep, already looted and three other people there looking.

What to expect from the Ruger 10/22
Hutch (DayZ) replied to JalapaJuiceJerry's topic in General Discussion
Unless you use a suppressor, please use hearing protection. Standard velocity from a 10/22 is ~89dB which is enough to cause some hearing loss over time. It's not painful and it won't make your ears ring but prolonged exposure can cause damage.
