In that case I wouldn't necessarily add it to the loot tables(junk!) but to the starting inventory, like the flare and rag.

Why would players look for a book on how to craft a backpack when they can just go online?
-
Absolutely not. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that a rope and a stick can make a fishing rod and a book doesn't provide the hands-on component that many learned tasks require(see CPR), nor is a substitute for experience in say skinning an animal. The characters in the game don't have to be blank slates that we need to fill out later, and here they thankfully aren't. This game isn't a perfect substitute for real life either. I would not want to tend to my tomato patch for 4 months before I get a tomato; the 20 minute time limit is a perfect compromise between realism and frustration. Finding books to learn skills is less realism and more frustration. Any blueprint system is exactly that -- frustration. Furthermore, Chernarus is hardly a 1st world country and its survivors are not people that come from sprawling urban jungles. It is extremely likely then that they got to: Fire a gun, learn how to start a fire, learn how to string greenwood bows and make arrows for fun(Have you seen most buildings own a computer?), learn how to farm, and most other outdoors related activities. The more technical knowledge came from primary and secondary schooling(CPR) - This is all coming from personal experience since I, like the characters in the game, hail from a rather underdeveloped part of Eastern Europe.

Even though it is Eastern Europe everybody seemed to have melted down all of their PET bottles and burned all of the burlap sacks. As such, I would like to propose simple solutions to simple problems. 1) Lack of portable water containers. This is awful when it comes to horticulture as your crops will die without water. Allow for the numerous metal cans (peaches, sardines, spaghetti, you name it) to hold water. Since it is an open container make it spill slightly when you run with it until it all drips away. This would prevent carrying potable water on a journey but would allow cultivation around ponds and water pumps. 2) Lack of burlap sacks/backpacks. Allow to sew a clothing item like a shirt or hoodie shut. This would make a rather oddly shaped backpack but it would fulfill the same function as a courier backpack. Thank you for reading!

Without fail I have to defend myself with a sharpened stick against fully geared players coming all piss and vinegar at me. That being said, when I have the upper hand I rarely pull the trigger on a stranger true KoS fashion. I almost always talk to them and even invite them to a five-star zucchini meal! It makes it much more meaningful to kill someone you spoke to, someone who appreciated your hospitality! rather than killing some Joe or a freshspawn. In other words: It's interesting if I'm at a disadvantage and I got to talk to the person before we started fighting.

Except shitty loot is the primary reason why people kill themselves, they'd rather not spend three hours of time to get gear when they can respawn and get it within 30 minutes.

If you were railed in the head with a javelin from some guy in a ghillie suit, you'll see that primitive weapons are not out of place in DayZ. I agree about the smithing being hard to implement realistically though.

But there wouldn't be that big of a need to commit suicide if the areas were interesting to scout and there was a some meaningful loot. I mean if you spawn in lets say Shakhovka, and you are on a decently populated server, chances are the area's been picked clean, and its surroundings like Staroye or Dolina also. Its not much help either when the only thing you find are ruined sneakers and winter hats. And in the end, if you want to kill yourself to be closer with your friends or spawn somewhere more preferable, you will, be it jumping from a crane or a hospital, taking a knife to the throat, running into zombies, or blowing your brains out with a handgun they took from a Police department or even asking a stranger to be murdered. And it will be hard to determine if the fall, zombie death, or the murder were , or were not accidental. Like I said, you can only eliminate the problem of not enough meaningful loot by adding more places like the PD which spawn some weapons, (buildings like a Gun Club, shooting range, etc...), adding more methods of transportation ( I really doubt it everybody and their dog took all of their bicycles and scooters with them), and simply making sections of the map interesting to explore(Skyscrapers are cool and all, but when they have nothing inside most of the time, people avoid them because of a possibility of an ambush).

I'm doing a hike and went from Berezino to Khlem to Krsanostav, to the Black Mountain to Gvozdno to the Devil's Castle to Grishino and finally I'm at the International Airfield going down into Komarovo/Balota. So far I've encountered five people. one at Berezino, two at Krasnostav airfield and two at the International airfield. I startled the two people in the international and they fired a mosin at me, so I shot both dead as revenge for my ruined assault vest. So, pretty good so far I guess

I became a bandit for loot, and to be simply left alone. I dislike it when people want something from me so when they are running up to me i often kill them, knowing they could be the last thing I see. On one particular instance I met a player clad in armor wearing a US Army uniform next to the ocean. He had a PDW and a DMR. I was chased by zombies and he helped me out. At that moment, a zombie crawled up to him and broke his legs. I shot it with my Makarov and killed it, then I proceeded to killing the soldier. I shot him 3 times in the head and he fell unconcious. I Picked up his rifle and I shot him in the chest. I was confident he was dead and I looted him. I got a GPS, his weapons, 4 mags each gun, map, range finder, matches, knife , food , water canteen. All sorts of useful things. I was glad I killed him since it gave me a head start.

Sorry for the late reply but having stated that you have 900 blood left then you will pass out. It is a 1/100 chance every second that you will pass out if you are below 3000 blood. For more info, go here: http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Blood

I noticed that if you rest for a while, so that your character does not wheeze/ out of breath, then he will run faster for 30 seconds or until he starts to be out of breath again.

Can server hopping affect the chance of you being knocked out?

So it would be like the Fallout 3/NV Finger/Ear system. Pretty cool. -

After about 30min of gathering supplies in BZ i reached the Lumber Mill. I climbed up top on some sort of powerplant/silo to see if there are any lootable buildings. After 15 seconds I see a wave of zombies running my way, and a guy with a hatchet in the front. I pull out my M249 and gun the guy down where he stood. I felt bad for him knowing that with a weapon such as the M249 i could'ave saved him by killing all of the zombies around him. On the other hand he had a toolbox on him, a item that I did not have before. -
You can find spears that can be used next to lakes and/or ocean to fish. They(fish) restore 400 blood when cooked. The spears should also be throwable or used in melee in those tough situations.

I need assistance. I'm currently in the barn in Prigodoky, i broke my legs and I am slightly drained of blood, about 8k. Please help. Nevermind, no help needed I was put out of my misery -
That could work as well.

The throwable range would be about 3/4 of a hand grenade. You can throw it as often as you want, if you still hold more in your inventory. They take up 2 spaces in the regular, or a toolbelt spot. When fishing it will be a random chance where you can gain from 0-2 fish per try, you can try every 30 seconds or so. If stuck in the ground then it would be retrievable, but when it hits a zombie or player then the chance lowers. The noise would be minimal.

Just a friendly suggestion from a survivor.

If they have a hatchet or crowbar, shoot them in the legs and watch them squirm around trying to bandage themselves up. When they do, either shoot them again so they bleed or just take them out. Another thing you can do is throw a flare at a survivor surrounded by zombies and watch him fight them off. Then when he is done, give him his ultimate reward... death. -
1. Zombies will be attracted to flares and run to investigate, same thing goes for chemlights. As for flashlights i would assume the zombies will be able to see you easier. 2. The best place to find maps would be from residential buildings and supermarkets or from killing other players. Maps spawn in most, if not all "spawn areas" so you will have to look around. 3. Try to double tap left Ctrl 4. To talk to nearby players you need to have chat set to "group" the hearing range should be around 50m
