Just something else you may or may not find useful these (http://dayzhq.com/map/) (http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/GPS) (http://dayzdb.com/map#3.077.122) are fantastic sources of info and invaluable to just plain getting around. Something else I noticed as of the most recent patch, the highly sought after items ghillie (sp) / camo suits, compass and even tents are now spawning in the major cities inside just regular buildings so keep a eye out. If you have to travel at night but don't want to risk using your flashlight as it makes you a target, turn up the gamma and brightness make sure your HDR in advanced graphics is set to max also when you do this. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience, its alpha so the bugs are to be expected to me at least. As for the hackers I have only had one instance where I was teleported by hackers...thankfully I was crawling everywhere at that time so loaded in prone and just laid there while everyone around me was shooting. Ended up logging out still alive and moved to another server, never had another issue with hackers. Not sure if this matters but are you making sure the servers your using are fully protected and up to date on the builds? I have noticed a few servers that appear a bit lax on their security and do not have the battleEye enabled so perhaps this is what happened with you. Now as for the community there are some asses but for the most part I think most are helpful, provided you are not acting like a arse youself when posting like many seem to do then wonder why no one helps them. Anyway good luck on whatever game you move on to ....think your missing out but its your call!

Would guess when you have the gun out use L? But careful you can be spotted from quite a ways off and might get shot at while using flashlight....

Good tips Quantum ...like to add one more set HDR in graphics settings to highest setting will really help when you crank up the gamma and brightness! ;)

I have uninstalled skype but thank you for the offer..sadly found it was running 50+ versions of itself under resource monitor TCP connections, might have been doing a bit torrent type of thing but still was not pleased to see it. Also run mumble with friends so tend not to have more the one voip going at once if I can avoid it.

Welcome to your new addiction! I am from across the pond from you (USA) but happy to assist however I can with my very limited noobish knowledge.

I was having this "loading" forever issue oddly what fixed it for me was installing and using dayz commander no idea why this worked....just happy it did! :)

I recall mention of a known memory leak? Also I have noted some servers are just bad connection wise, and no matter what I do I will get lag so I test a few before deciding on the one I will play on.

I get the most fun out of getting around without getting killed by zombies or other players, I have yet to shoot at anyone (unless they attacked first). Some people just enjoy killing others whether it be noob freshly spawned or vet player with awesome gear and all points between! Personally I hope I don't survive to see how bad people people can get if this mod is any indicator...as it appears everyone is a psychopath barely held in check only by the laws the restrict us. But anyway I am still having a blast (no pun intended)!

So friend has leased a 40 slot server he is following the strict rules and so forth, and mostly he did this to give his friends a place to play but obviously its open to anyone to join. However my concern is what if the server is full and we all decide to play?? Can he set aside say 10 slots of the 40 for friends or is that break some rule we have yet to read about?

So what exactly is the upside to renting a server?

The game is in real time so night will last ...well all night! As for different times many servers list the times in the server info check that to find a server that is for enough ahead or behind to give you the daylight you want! :) As a temp fix you can adjust your brightness and gamma (make sure your HDR is set to high in the graphics setting) this will allow you to get around at night.

I don't buy this I think some people are just asses plain and simple! OP not everyone will shoot you on sight, but as you found out the hard way many will for greed or just fear of being shot first.

The game is not shit its just very hard and yes grouping up with friends can take some time, but this is supposed to be a realistic type mod so that "feature" and many others including your broken bone are what keeps this on the side of realistic. First off do yourself a favor and check out the great maps available for the mod, not only will it give you the general location of some great gear it will also show you where you can get a morphine auto injector used to fix those pesky broken bones! ;) http://dayzhq.com/map/ http://dayzdb.com/map#3.077.122 I hate PVP but I love this mod so I will learn to shoot player as needed! Also have died a few times because I wait to see if people are friendly or not before shooting them, (provided I am still alive at that point) its 50/50 so far for friendly to bandits. (point try something new might like it) Bottom line its nothing like I have ever played before and honestly never thought I would, but have to say it would have been my loss if I had never tried it or given up when it got little tough!

I recently found a AK-74 and can't seem to find a way to toggle burst fire off ...rather fire one round at a time if possible since I have no idea when I might find more ammo. Checked the key bindings (and searched this forum) and might be blind but did not see a option to toggle full auto off or on?

My flashlight has been glitching out otherwise I prefer to play at night when possible.

Sadly OP your not going to get much if any sympathy in regards to this! While I agree it stinks when some gutless coward shoots a unarmed or brand new player....you just start again and hope you find a gun or something to defend yourself with.

Let me say I never would have imagined myself enjoying this type of game being what you would call a carebear type, but after waiting in the dark last night for friends to come find me so we could meet up I have to say its been a great experiance! The makers of this game should really be giving Rocket and rest of his team some royalties have to say that without this mod I never would have purchased Arma II and the add on. Btw can I get a tip on how to get around at night I know using flashlight is a big no no, so other then finding a safe spot and waiting what are my options? Thanks

I just have to find some night vision goggles then I would be set....right I will get on that asap lol.

I searched the forums before posting this and according to what I have read I should be able to create a female character...however I have yet to see the option to do so? Could someone either tell me how or direct me to a thread the explains exactly when and where this option appears? Thanks :)
