Visually, yes, it bypasses... but the Crosshair in third person is in no way close to where your player is physically aiming. Find a friend, aim at his head in third person and then go into iron sights and look where you're aiming. I also wonder if it still accounts for the shaking crosshair when you fire in third person, it might. Anyway, there is a reason I move around in 3rd person but go into Iron Sights whenever combat kicks up.

I know you can't fill in the ocean anymore. I was just saying that was the only time since I started playing DayZ that I was able to fill the water up without having to be in the swim animation.
-
Yeah, having to swim to shoulder level water in a pond to fill up your canteen is pretty hardcore realism. If you're one of those guys who pulls your pants down around your ankles to piss in a urinal...

Please, for the love of god Rocket, stop giving this dope the credit of even a half-assed apology. It was a joke. The vast majority of us got the joke. His foot stomping fit he's throwing about a simple joke is no different from the special interest groups that bully comedians and celebrities into apologies over jokes. He went out of his way to be offended and if that comment offended him even remotely, he should uninstall the game completely. Better yet, unplug your modem. A light joke about carebears is nothing compared to the scum you'll find on this big, ugly Internet. Stop taking offense for the sake of taking offense, Virfortis. It ruins everything about interaction between us and the dev, it ruins his candidness and ability to show us any fraction of his personality, and it makes the playerbase look weak and thin skinned. It's ridiculous that pages later you're still carrying on pretending to be offended. ---- On a much more deserving note... could anyone who has successfully downloaded the new files upload them to a filelocker like mediafire or something? Would really help distribute the DLs adn take the weight off of the mirrors.

You pretty much missed the entire point of my post. He's not making fun. He's joking. Not making fun of you, the player, but when you act like an over entitled child, kicking and stomping your feet like this, he just might start making fun of you, and to be honest, you would 100% have it coming after this post.

Regarding the amount of zombies spawning and the 'carebears' comment, Rocket was clearly just kidding. On the subject though, I would prefer massive swarms of zombies if they actually moved appropriately. Instead they warp, lag, rubber band, zig zag at amazing speeds... clip through walls... I've been playing competitive FPS games since the early 00's but trying to land a shot on a zombie in the open world is like trying to headshot someone with a speedhack.

I have personally seen at least 50 EPI-PENs around the world' date=' he's saying 50 players total have the item. It's clearly a super rare, separate item. I agree. Getting too spergy survivalist for me. I remember when Day Z was fun and wasn't a game for masochists who actively hated doing anything in the game that could be considered fun. Then don't play. I like the direction it's going in. Extremely unique from anything I've even seen in a decade + of gaming, especially mod gaming. Though maybe if you guys keep shitting on the game more in a patch thread, Rocket will code in a Bejeweled mini game for you fellas.

Do you remember your first murder or murderer?
bobbyweenus replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My first murder was outside of Tulga. My first day playing so I thought Tulga was one of the bigger towns. It was night time, so I was scared shitless, and my friend and I were crawling through the grass towards the town, which was painted red with flares. We heard a lot of gun fire, and at the time, it sounded like more than would have been needed to clear the town of zombies, so we were alarmed. My buddy was crawling out a bit to get a view of the town in his scope. We were watching their movements through town, I was perched over a Humvee crashed into debris, when I suddenly noticed the two survivors from town were about 50m to our right clearing a pair of zombies. I watched them do it, then I ducked down, my back against the debris barrier, panicking. I heard PKing was frequent in this game, but this was before I knew about the bandit skin system, so I pretty much assumed everyone else were bandits. Before I knew it, my buddy started whisper shouting over ventrilo: "He's walking over me! He walked right over me!!", by the time I processed where my friend was in relation to me, the same man came around the debris barrier and backed into me. I completely panicked, in a way I have never done in a video game, and unloaded Winchester slugs into the back of his head. It very briefly made me a bandit, but it wore off by the next time I was playing. Nice upgrade for my gear at the time too. The odd part was that we found his friend dead at the house they were clearing. We didn't kill his friend, and I'm almost positive that he didn't die to a zombie either, when I was spying on them they made quick work of the zombies. Unless he was previously injured, there was an actual bandit sharpshooter somewhere near by, or the fella that I killed got away with a murder without becoming a bandit. -
Sleep well sweet prince.

The entitlement of server hosts and those giving server donations is stupid and completely misses the point. You've been given an opportunity to have so many servers. 99.9% of alpha tests have limited play times, extremely limited servers... Stop bitching about the server hosting, before you ruin this and have DayZ turn into a limited alpha, with limited servers, or god forbid... 'Alpha weekends'.

That's not even a little bit true. Rocket posted earlier that there were more people on today than yesterday, which yesterday, was holding the patch back. He also posted about 12 hours ago that the patch was being delayed because he was fixing the duping bug, but that he was calling it a night because it was 3:30am local time and he was exhausted. So, if you want a finger to point at regarding the delay of the patch, head over to the SA forums and yell at the Goons for being so bold about their exploiting. I think this project could really benefit from a forum Dev tracker, as a lot of people really love to see the direction that the project is moving, and Rocket often posts little updates on progress in random forum threads. Also, a dev blog would be great. We all want to know what is on the horizon, what ideas will be implemented or are being developed even on a concept level. I know that we're an aggressive bunch and we get very excited about features, but that is the price you pay by putting together a project that excites SO MANY PEOPLE. I don't think I'm a minority here when I say DayZ has a lot of concepts and features that I have been waiting for in a game FOR YEARS. With that people said, people just want to know what they can look forward to or expect on the DayZ project. The dog companion reveal on that Rocket interview was huge because it's a future feature we know is being worked on. I think people would like to see more of that kind of information rather than coy hints and references. These forums have a pretty smart community that have a lot of ideas. Some are impractical, but I can honestly say that I've seen more practice suggestions and ideas in two weeks in the DayZ community than the majority of games and DIY gaming communities I've ever experienced. Letting us in on the plans should be seen as the utilization of a focus group, this is a likeminded community that might disagree on aspects of the game, but we're all on the same page here and I think are capable of being in the know. I'd love to see a dev blog or a a future features progress page that shows us what's being worked on, what's on a concept level, and what's on the backburner.

The only thing I hate about this is that bandits are basically trolling the global channels for victims. If a bandit catches you on direct chat and convinces you, that's an organic, almost roleplay level of trickery, and is your bad. When they're trolling new players via global chat, it's just cheap and impractical. It's not even that smart. You might as well just be spawn camping the coast at that point, as your victims are more than likely newbies thinking of you as a helpful community member, similar to the more hardcore niche MMO's that have community help programs in place to connect newbies to veterans. It's underhanded on a macro level, and is basically metagaming.

Wouldn't it make more sense to find an audio-only streaming solution for an in-character / immersible radio station? I like the idea and concept here, but it sounds like the audience of broadcasts should mostly be people actively playing (like having your radio on in-game in Fallout for example), and a video feed might be taxing resources in the background for people who's computers are already struggling with Arma2. I could be wrong but I know I'd personally just have an audio feed than have video running in the background while I play.
-
Pingtize, are you going to be streaming video or just using Twitch.TV for the audio?
-
I still don't understand. Where is anyone saying "WAHH! GET THE PATCH UP YOU ASSHOLES! I'M TIRED OF WAITING!" I see people who are very excited and want the patch now... I have yet to see a single person complaining in a "I DONT GET IT" way that the patch isn't up yet. The most I saw was someone saying "aw, thought I'd wake up to the patch, oh well, back to waiting!".

Admitted Duping and Hacking 20+ LLKJ members
bobbyweenus replied to EyesandEars's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you don't support the duping and exploiting of the Goons, don't tag up LLJK. Head to the SA forums and figure out a new tag to differentiate yourself from the dummies who decided to exploit the game while tagged up. -
Let's Fix/Replace the Bandit System! - My Witness/Social System Suggestion
bobbyweenus posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Crossposted from the thread announcing the Bandit system being disabled: The most realistic way to add a moral / decision making devise that stops people from wide scale slaughtering everyone they see is socially. Realistically that is how the world works, not a number value humanity system. Relying on something to be socially driven is dangerous, as it could be easily trolled and such. Here's my idea anyway, let me know what you think: The relatively failed semi-MMOFPS game APB has a witnessing system. When a cop character see's a criminal character stealing a car or killing someone or running a robbery, he holds down a button (lets use tab for the sake of DayZ) and it witnesses the criminal, registering it as a crime if it is one, and sending out an APB. We can take a note from that. If a bandit/murderer character's reputation were to be sullied, someone would have to survive or witness his wrong doing. So lets say there are 3 players in a forest. Bandit, Survivor 1 and Survivor 2. Bandit sees Survivor 1, he shoots him and likely kills him, but he never saw Survivor 2, as S2 was further away and hiding. S2 would hold down tab, to witness the murder. This registers this player as a murderer in S2's eyes. Since player models, even with some more skins, cannot be described to each other, we have to let the game/engine do the work and fill in the blanks. IRL, I would describe someone as tall, short, skinny, fat, and their facial features, since we can't do that in-game, the witnessing system would effectively do that for the player, using the game to commit the players 'appearance' to memory, or data. This brings up the social aspect. Now lets say you meet another survivor and briefly talk without murdering each other. You could then pass along or trade the 'witnessing data', the in-game equivalent of telling the other survivor what happened and describing the murderer, and telling them to steer clear. Players could accumulate witnessing data, trade it and pass it along to each other, effectively creating a social reputation system that isn't an arbitrary number or something that magically works. This creates a demand for social interaction, allowing us to have those perhaps tense moments of uncertainty around a player instead of just killing each other. This creates a demand for players to perhaps create trading posts naturally in-game and gives players a reason to maybe be diplomatic rather than violent or psychotic. The thing this would do, assuming we're playing on servers without gamertags showing up (hopefully), is maybe add some kind of noticeable marking on a player if you've heard that he is a murderer. Maybe even just a slight red tint to their gun, or add something slightly to their face, or even just an asterix near them when you look. This is something we, or Rocket, would have to figure out, what would be the best without breaking immersion. Murderers could wear facemask, the one used on the bandit skin, to make themselves un-witnessable. The negative effect of that is that other players, true to life, would see someone wearing a facemask as threatening. Think about this. You're walking through a parking lot. Someone walks by you wearing a bandana over their face. Wouldn't you wonder why that guy had his face obscured? It makes you think, and it gives a trade off. You are untrackable, but you are threatening looking. This fits in with players, "Dressing to their playstyle" as Rocket stated he wanted to implement. If a player dies, his witnessing data is wiped, and witnessing data about him is wiped, as it is permadeath, a new death means a new character. This is about as realistic as I can think of. The only way a murderer is traceable is if he leaves a witness, and even then, that witness has to spread the word. Input, Suggestions or ideas? -

Awesome that you're doing so much to counter the exploits. Keeps the integrity of the game world in tact.
