Okay, dickish OP, here's the scenario. A group of bandits incapacitate you. You wake up with handcuffs on. They berate and insult you. They call you every four letter word they can imagine. One of them is watching TV or studying for an exam and doesn't mind leaving his character idle, so he drags you off to some obscure corner of the map and keeps you handcuffed for hours on end just because he can. Just because he wants to piss you off. Because he gets a kick out of it. That is what will happen if this feature were implemented. I have plenty of imagination. More than you, apparently, because I'm capable of imagining how this feature would be used.

Objectives and artificial limitations have no place in this game. That said, the more details the better. Give us more and more and more so that the game never gets old. So that my goals and objectives, my play experience, could be entirely different from the next guy's.

Horrible idea. People would run around handcuffing other players just to grief them. It adds nothing.

Put Bandages Back On Mouse Wheel Please
bondono replied to destiny0ne's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The last time I had to take something out of my pocket I wasn't forced to crouch and slowly and painfully search through my "inventory." My character knows where his bandages are. Making me open the inventory, find them, right click on them--it's pointless. The mousewheel is a form of convenience. Make it take longer to apply bandages. It's irritating to open my inventory when there was a perfectly good system in place before. -
Ammo should come in bundles. 3 bolts per, perhaps. It's silly how much room crossbow ammo takes. The iron sights on the crossbow are an absolute failure. Add a reflex scope. I don't know if it's possible, but when a bolt hits add it to the inventory of whatever it hit. Yes, shooting quietly is a big plus. The reload time in between shots more than makes up for this. The crossbow is never going to replace a rifle in a fight against non-zed. I would absolutely love to take the crossbow as my primary weapon. Now it's too punishing to warrant use. Fix it.
-
If you look at me funny, I shoot. If you have a high powered weapon aimed at me, I shoot. If you look like an idiot, I shoot. Mostly, I just shoot anyone who isn't on Teamspeak with me. I don't trust anyone.

The One, The Only: I HATE TEMP THREAD
bondono replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Firewood should be gathered from trees. It should be abundant and not require me to enter town. It's absolutely silly that I can survive 100% on the land with canteens, a knife, matches, and a crossbow, but if I get cold I have to leave the woods to get firewood... That's just dumb. Colossally DUMB. I don't know if there's a system in place to collect wood in the open. Maybe that's asking too much. In that case ditch the firewood and just assume that the player will be able to find plenty of wood out in the open, considering he's SURROUNDED ON ALL SIDES BY TREES. Jesus. -
Require the player to wait 60 seconds before being able to log out, like someone else mentioned. Preparing camp or something. If, during the 60 seconds, the player takes ANY damage, the timer resets itself. So if you're under fire or being chased by zombies you have to hide for at least a minute to quit the game. I think that would curtail the problem and it's worlds better than characters being left to die on the server after logout, or a ridiculous 15 minute wait between joining servers. As buggy as this game is I'm jumping servers all the time. You make me wait 15 minutes and I'll flip you the bird as I remove this game from my hard drive.

Bandits are what make this mod great. Unfortunately, there will ALWAYS be players who just aren't very good and who just don't have a mind for combat. There are dozens and dozens of games for you. CoD, Battlefield, etc. You can run around like a chicken with its head cut off, and so long as you are super twitchy, you'll rack up kills. This isn't a game about running around in circles and bunny hopping. To play DayZ correctly you must always move under the assumption that you are being watched, and that someone's crosshairs are on your back. ALWAYS. I've played as a bandit and I've played as a survivor. I've sat on rooftops and sniped one survivor after the next because they walk up to a body and bend down to loot. Even when there are half a dozen bodies littering the streets, there are those survivors who'll just march out into the open with no regard for their own safety just to grab can of beans and a clip for their Makarov. Those are the players who gripe about bandits. This is a game about survival. You survive by adapting, not by dumbing down the game to the point that it can be played on autopilot with zero thought on your part.
-
No. The key to success with a Makarov is to not even fire unless you're shooting at the head. If you are too far to hit your target in the head, you're better off running. You will NOT win that engagement. The Makarov should NOT be as awful as it is. All of the guns in this mod feel fairly realistic. Shoot a guy in the chest with a rifle and if he doesn't die he'll probably fall unconscious. Pistols are a bit weaker than reality, but that's okay. The Makarov, though, is about as good as a bb gun.
-
No, it doesn't. Your character is tied to your CD key, not your profile. If we're so worried that people will maintain one bandit and one survivor, there is a simple solution. Humanity applies to the CD Key, so if you have one bandit and you create a new character, you've now got two bandits.
-
Yes, Hesher, you will be permabanned and both your CD keys will be revoked.

I'm all for this. It's so hard to find my buddies, and we get so far out north, I really don't want to play unless they're all on. It would be great if we could all have additional characters. And no, purchasing another retail copy is NOT a viable solution. Screw that. Considering that bandit skins are probably being nixed ANYWAY, it isn't exactly going to make a big deal. Furthermore, I really don't see myself creating a bandit/survivor duo, and while I'm sure some would, I think the majority would have solo and group characters.

Vehicles as they are are great. They're special. Anyone can have a vehicle if they care to work at it, or if they get lucky and steal one. If you're smart you don't drive your vehicle into town. You park a ways out so that no one hears the engine and you move in on foot. Sometimes you just get unlucky and your ride will get jacked. Too bad. If vehicles were all over the place we'd have morons careening from one end of the map to the next, running people down just because they can, and vehicles wouldn't be nearly as cool and awesome as they are now.

Scorped rifles need to go or become ULTRA rare
bondono replied to Mutonizer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Simple solution. Our survivors are not special forces snipers. They're just survivors. Mall cops, farmers, mechanics, etc. We should not be nearly as accurate with our rifles. Increase crosshair bobbing so that long distance shots are substantially more challenging. It would be far more realistic and tense that way. -
I like bandit models, but I'd rather they be scrapped in the interest of improving the game. What I would really like to see is the option to find clothing and dress my character up. It would be nice to scavenge some decent camo or a ghillie suit.

No, the appeal is not going to fade. This game exists because it appeals to a certain kind of gamer who is looking for a certain kind of experience. There are plenty of games out there that lack consequences. In fact, game stores are FLOODED with them. Being set back is what makes this worthwhile. It creates tension that the carebear games lack. I'll tell you why we PvP. The guys in Cherno and Elektro do it because they get a kick out of killing other players. They're your standard PvPers. Nobody with decent gear is in those towns. They aren't gathering any more loot than they could get just by running through a few buildings. Farther out, bandits kill because there's a very good chance that whoever's out there DOES have some good gear. Killing serves more of a purpose. You aren't dropping newbies with Makarovs and nothing worthwhile to loot. Decent guys kill out there because they know they're a tempting target, and because they've been struggling to stay alive. They kill so you don't have the chance to kill them.
-
Grouping would be great. I don't want to run around for an hour trying to find my buddies while newbies take potshots at us.
-
How do you find it? You mark it on your in-game map. Yeah, stuff repeats itself, but if you know roughly where your loot was stored you should be able to find unique markers around it. OR add a small, hard to notice indicator. Some stones piled a certain way, or a couple of sticks propped up. That said, we do have tents that more or less do this, so...

I would like to see zombies move a bit slower or at least not do that crazy 90 degree angle trick. Yeah, if the zombie was intelligent, that's a great little tactic. It's not. Right now if you're outside and attacked by several zombies your best bet is to run to the nearest house and fight them there. It's very difficult to pick off zombies before they reach you and start swinging. For me it's not about making the game easier. I think it would be satisfying if I could kill more zombies without using that goofy forced-indoor-zombie-walk thing. Add more zombie spawns to keep things difficult.
-
You raise a good point. I'm confident that as the game develops these problems will be addressed. If this is ever made into a retail game I think the best solution would be randomized locations. By that I mean island and its terrain remains largely the same, but roads and towns are randomly placed each time the server resets. That way you'll always have to explore and you'll actually need to use that in game map rather than cheating with your browser. I highly doubt anything like that will be possible in a mod, and I don't know how else to fix the problem, other than greatly randomizing loot spawns.

If this game required a monthly fee I would flatout not play it. Don't do that. You will fail. Freemium I may try, but I would largely hate it. What makes this game great is that there are no artificial barriers. I don't play WoW. Any jobless halfwit virgin can devote hundreds and hundreds of hours to leveling and gathering loot. There's no skill involved. No intelligence. I'm okay at FPSes. Not great, but okay. And you know what? It doesn't matter that I'm not a dead shot with a sniper rifle. This game is more about the player's ability to stay cool and move cautiously. It's about being smart, not a good shot. I love that. Don't jeopardize this by allowing players to buy weapons or modifications. Don't give them an unfair advantage because they've got more money than they know what to do with. That said, you'd make a mint with freemium, so I can understand if you'd rather go that route. If you do, I sincerely hope you only allow cosmetic purchases. If you made this into a solid retail game, if it was polished, if I could easily drop into servers, and if you added more content, I would absolutely pay retail price for it. You might not sell bajillions of copies like CoD or Battlefield, but you'll sell tens of thousands. If you devote your attentions toward creating a fantastic gaming experience there are plenty of us who will buy your game, and you can make quite a profit by not blowing millions on making DayZ a cutting edge game that won't even appeal to mainstream audiences.

Come on. This is absurd. You can't play in the dark, and logging into Russian servers is NOT a fix for that. Fine. Some people think it's fun to stumble blindly at night. Let them have that in the goddamn veteran servers. To top it off, for some reason almost all the servers are plunged in darkness as of writing this. It's about 2:30 EST. Realism is great to a point. No one would like to take a bullet in the gut and spend 10 hours dying in a ditch. That's what I equate total darkness to. That's about as fun as this game is when it's dark. This is a great game, but it's infuriating that I can't play in a US server past 9pm.

When I said, "the future of our country..." that should have implied that I am a US citizen myself. You're right, though. There is a manners problem where I come from. There's also an educational problem. We have some of the best colleges in the world, but only 15% of our people go to college. Our public schooling is atrocious. There are third world countries with better educational systems in place. It's disgraceful and that's all I'm going to say before I go into full rant mode.
