my laptop is just barely able to run it, it should be a little worse than yours. but i really dont recommend to play like that, its not fun to play with low graphics (-> low visibility) and you get killed in the most stupid situations due to lags. example? i got killed while looting a heli crash site, because i was not able to kill one single zombie with an ak with 2 mags because it lagged so hard that i barely saw him.

My biggest concern about this going stand-a-lone

oh god, reading this thread with that music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz39o9xlw2M epicly dramatic. have my non trademarked beans -
there are million things to do! just watch some youtube videos, the creativity some people show is incredible. do medic stuff, be a counter sniper, get yourself a lonley survivor and help him to gear up, make a secure transporting system, a trading post, a zombie secure area, a car shop, etc etc

read the post. if you dont read it, dont fucking post a comment. i will not reply to any stupid comments. i hate that i have to write this: i am not against banditry, the features described could add some more reality, and still allowing every players playing style. TO THE MODS: PLEASE (!!!!!) keep the topics (not only this) clean. i dont really know why this forum is still running, since almost every thread gets raided with comments of people, that did not even read the opening post. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are a lot of ideas out there already, to handly the lack of cooperation and the huge amount of unreasonable killings in the game. so far i did not see any idea, that can be really considered. one thing first: i dont know that much about the mod mechanics etc, so i dont know (actually i dont think) that those changes can be done in the mod, they could be part of the standalone. in my opinion, the main reason for killings is not the mostly pretended 'survival' but pure boredome and/or immaturity. i think this could be helped, if you give the player's character an identity. in the moment a player got nothing to do, once he has an advanced gear. this and the fact, that he is totally anonymus in the dayz environment encourages the so called death-match gameplay. in reality one would not murder someone out of pure boredom, especially not in a situation like the one shown in dayz. the consequences of such an act would be psychological and social. the psychological issue is hard to simulate, but the social aspect could be implemented. thats what i mean by 'give the player an identity': A---- no total anonymity: this could be achieved by statistics. give every player a statistics page, where life time, zombie killings, murders, murders on unarmed, blood transfusions, and what not are listed. DELETE (open to discussion) this with every death (enables change of playstyle). those statistics could be based on a single server (only one or a group of servers of the players choice, or chosen by the playing time, are recognized by the statistics) or for all servers (note: there will be only ONE statistic, not one for every server you play on). btw: achievments/badges could be implemented here (no silly ones pls, just some more content for the game, to make it playable even in the endphase) along with this: one game accout, that is traceble, but not necessarily has the ingame name. B ---- give the players character a memory. the statistic mentioned above (A) could take a lot of the tension out of the game (unwanted), when implemented wrong ingame. thats why the ingame name should not directly lead to the statistics page. BUT: vip players, such as well known medics or bandits, zombiekillers of the year, etc etc, should be somehow recognized. in reality one would recognize a face. in a game this is difficult, but one vip players name could maybe be shown ingame, when approaching his character closely. My idea is not thought trough completely, i just wanted to write it down before i forget it again, and see, if it is worth thinking about it more. you be the judge of that. To make it clear. there will always be killings in the game, there is no way around that, and it is good like that. the only thing we CAN do, is to give a option not to kill on sight. this idea shall be one.

unreasonable murders -> lack of identity

interesting idea. so far i just thougt of one live or all lives. statistic of a few (say 5) lives would be a good concept to see a development. -

you did not read my post properly. i wrote it repeatedly, i do not want to change your style of play. i want to give players that dont play this way options. if you are not emotionally affected by killing someone, and you dont care that you have 20 (i know its not been that much) kills in your statistic, its cool. if you dont kill because your an ass, then you most probably dont get caught by this system. you have no disadvantages. a survivor, that does not want to kill people will try to avoid those killings, because now they are potentially accessible by the community. there will always be killings in the game, there is no way around that, and it is good like that. the only thing we CAN do, is to give a option not to kill on sight. -
unreasonable murders -> lack of identity

sorry, as you most probably noticed english is not my first language ;) 1 - yes, they could 2 - my point was, to give the player a tracable account. but you should not be able to see someone ingame, type their name in the statistics page and see if he is trustworthy, that would be too simple. BUT if this player is a VIP and you got visual contact, there would be a way to check his profile and/or his account name would be shown ingame. for 'small fishes it would almost stay how it is, but people can still take their account name for their ingame name of course. how this is implemented is open to discussion. 3 - the memory would be the indication of the account name of VIP's. see it as a memory of 'i have seen this guy carrying people out of cherno, hes a good guy' or 'was this the mad bus driver that runs over everyone he sees?' 4 - the correct way to implement this has to be found. i gave an example based on my opinion: indicate the VIP with their names, maybe green if they are good, red when they are bad. but this could already be too much. another idea could be a 'look at his face' option (can be done from farer away) and a result that is based on the statistics page, not on actual ingame events. 'ive seen this guy before' and an indicator whether he is green or red. a bad way to implement it would be to just show all names and their status. that would kill all the tension in pvp interactions, because everybody could be checked out on the statistics. 5 - there are about 250 000 people thinking about it from time to time. if there was an easy way it had been found already. -
unreasonable murders -> lack of identity
Sturmgeist replied to Sturmgeist's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
i dont really think so. statistics are normally just for yourself and in that case would give you some opportunities to kill boredom after gearing up AND giving people a glimpse at your POSSIBLE intentions. there would be certain groups, where a high kill count is something cool, of course, but it would give others the opportunity to organize against it. as i said: the most critical point is, that we ALREADY have a bad situation for some players. there are players, that kill for fun. period. there is nothing wrong with that. period. there are lots of people (and dont pretend something else) that would enjoy the game a lot more if there were other ways to play the game. now we need a solution to improve the situation without worsen it for the other party. the good thing about the mod status of this game is, that people can see how it can be when it will be a standalone. the bad thing about the mod status is, that in the current condition, a lot of people wont buy it, because there is no way for them to play the game like they enjoy it most.. so if you make it enjoyable for everyone, the possibility is higher, that you will have a standalone game in the end. ps: the 'you cant identify snipers'. of course, thats true. but see it as a compromise. someone could have seen it as a witness, or blabla. its a game after all, that needs some mechanics that make it enjoyable. -
unreasonable murders -> lack of identity
Sturmgeist replied to Sturmgeist's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
im sorry, but in that case you would fall in my definition of a 'excessive killer'. ;) there is nothing we can do about you, and you can be sure, it is not my intention to do anything against your style of playing this game. but i hope you understand and accept that there are players (that also just want to have a little fun) that do not play like you. those should have some options to be able to protect them selves, since they have no opportunity therefore in the moment. the only protection they have right now, is to change their playstyle to the one they want to avoid - shoot on sight. this is not directed to you, quaby, i just want to say this: i cant count how often i read this "man the fuck up" argument in this forum, and it shows me how inmature and ignorant people here are. it is an invalid argument as soon as you think about it for half a second. -
unreasonable murders -> lack of identity
Sturmgeist replied to Sturmgeist's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
i see your point, and im totally fine with that. the good thing about that system is, that it is not giving a penalty to your stlyle, but it makes the 'stupid' excessive murderers and griefers recognizable to players, that want to join up and cooperate. they still would have to be cautious, since only 'vip' players are recognized, but they are relatively save of the 'freaks'. problem here is the penalty factor. i dont like that. i also thought of the idea (read of it in the forum) that killers need alcohol to forget their sins^^ you got me wrong. i thought of a statistic, that is based on your actions one server, a group of servers OR all servers. not a thousand statistics for every server you play on. -
unreasonable murders -> lack of identity
Sturmgeist replied to Sturmgeist's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
why is this not dayz anymore? which part? true, but the other direction is possible too. there would be new tasks, or new ways to 'show skill' like zombie hunter, etc. to your second point: of course, new people dont have anything to remember. but we have to make compromises somewhere, to handle this issue. btw: im out of the door, but keep it coming, ill read every post later. -

i lean my trusted rifle to a tree. as i let myself sink on the wet ground, my knees crack, almost as loud as the fire 5 feet away. 'im running too much...', i moan. 'im crouching too much. and im proning too much.' i look at the stranger sitting right next too me. he is not carrying a weapon. his eyes are still shiny, like mine were, many days ago. now they are dry. dead. he must be new here... i reach into my pack and as i open a can of beans, i can see his hungry glances. 'you want some?' he nods. i reach into my pack once again and give him another can. we remain silent as we eat. 'your first night?` i ask? he nods again. 'let me tell you a story. let me tell you the story about my first day in chernarus.... i was washed ashore close to a small dock. later they told me it was the small industry harbor east of elektrozadovsk. when i gained consciousnes, sun was about to set. the first of the creatures surprised me. i stood there, scared to death, with nothing but my bare hands and shaking legs. i ran. i never ran that fast in my live before, but i couldnt get rid of the thing. i saw my last chance in jumping into the ocean. desperatly i tried to reach a small island in sight, but it was too far. i was too afraid to look back, but when i finally did, i saw that i made it, the creature was still standing on the beach, about 500 feet away. slowly i made my swim back to the shore. it did not seem to be a good idea to stay in the open, so i decided to head for the forrest, to make my way along the street. about 5 minutes later i reached a small town. my breath caught. there were more zombies than i could count... but i needed food and something to drink. the salty seawater had made me thirsty. i stayed in the forrest as long as i could, then crouched as long as possible, to make sure non of those beasts saw me. the trainstation looked promising. but instead of something to eat i just found some lonely shells for a weapon i didnt have. and zombies. their screaming echoed in my ears, as i sprinted to the sea once more. on my way through the town more and more zombies began their hunt, i made my prayers already. on the way, i even lost my backpack, but once again, i could run them out, using the sea as my guardian. i became desperate. i had nothing anymore. with my backpack gone, i only had my flashlight and some bandages left. it got darker and darker, i needed food! so i decided to test my luck. i sprinted to the dock of the small town, throwing myself on the ground, hoping that nothing would happen. and i was lucky. i found a can of beans in the building, and was ready to make my way out. proning along the shore seemd to be a good idea, since the area was infested by zombies. so i did that. i made 30 feet. 50. 100. still zombies. i held my breath, when a zombie was passing by not more than 6 feet away. then i saw something from the corner of my eye. half a second later my head exploded. the last thing i heard was the sound of two survivors sprinting on me from behind, the last thing i saw was their backs when the continued sprinting, without even stopping, with 10 zombies on their heels. and this is how i died. shot from behind, while crouching my way to safety, carrying nothing but my clothes and a can of beans. 59 minutes. welcome to chernarus.' as i finish my story we remain silent again. we are sitting on the ground, staring into the flames. after a while he rises. 'thanks for the beans'. his first words. then he turns around to leave. 'hey!' he turns around and flinches as he sees me pull my handgun. 'you gonna need this.' i hand him the revolver. he nods, gives me a greatful glance, turns around and dissapears in the darkness. its time for me to leave as well. its dangerous to stay at the same place for long. espeacially during the night. especially around a campfire. my knees crack as i rise. 'i run too much', i say to myself. we all do...
