    What would you do?

In the dayz before duping/scripting/cheating/more duping/tent cities, stuff like this happened between players too. Once upon a time, it was actually hard to keep yourself fed....
  2. It's probably disabled on the server(s) you're playing on. Yes, that's an option. Yes, people use it. Don't ask me why. Note: When it's disabled on the server, you can still type/talk and it looks like it's all working. But no one ever responds and even if they try, you can't see/hear them do so.

    Pilot in need of Work

It's better now that the graphics glitches have been fixed, but... yeah. Tap the ground just a little too hard, everyone falls out unconscious and bleeding and the helicopter vanishes into thin air.

    Pilot in need of Work

What not to do while flying in DayZ: Fly during the day. Fly while anyone not in your squad is on the server. Fly with a cracked windshield. Attempt to land without autohover. Attempt to land with autohover. Attempt to land at the NWAF. Attempt to land on a firestation roof. Attempt to find a main rotor assembly after you find the helicopter (they all mysteriously vanish).

    Hosting bubble pop?

All jokes aside about asian girls all looking the same, is that the same girl on the subway in Gangham Style? On topic: Tons of guilds/squads/groups have gotten sick of DayZ and shuttered their servers, and the servers that are still running are a lot more empty than they used to be. The hosts are trying to make up the missing revenue from all the servers that have shut down.

    So we can't ban Hoarders?

You know what I do when I find a hoarder camp? I take what I need and destroy everything else. Every tent, every vehicle. Protip: Don't shoot the vehicles with an AS50 or anything. They'll just vanish and reappear with the next reset. You need to use explosives. Shooting out the tires and saving them in that state is acceptable for frustrating the hoarders too, especially if you just ran over their tent full of tires.

Why do people whine on about alt-f4?

You have to push Escape first, then Alt-F4 from the menu. It won't work in the game.
  8. L85, nametag checks on the horizon and frequent looks at the player list. Now that's survival!

DayZ - Testing my VERY limits

Never "own" more than you can carry and the tent/vehicle storage issue isn't much of an issue. It also makes the game a lot more fun to play when you don't keep a safety net. Yes, I've spawned on the beach a few times with no gear (no backpack, flashlight or pain meds). It just look at it as a chance to start over with the fun part - gearing up from nothing.
  11. I loved the degradation in System Shock 2. In fact, that's one of my favorite games of all time. It was a thrill finding one of those Leatherman multitools and knowing I could keep my pimped out shotgun going for a little longer. Weapon degradation forces players to make choices. Choices are good to force players to make. This has long been documented that EVERYBODY loves choices. Do you pick up that fancy, finicky M4A1 CCO SD that will break down as soon as it rains, or do you stick with a trusty AK-74 that will keep running forever? Is the advantage of a "better" gun worth the hassle of extra care and maintenance? Do you like the 'never fail' simplicity of the revolver, or do you not mind having to keep the silencer on your M9 cleaned and tuned? These are questions that soldiers in the real world have to deal with. Unlike the soldiers in the real world, in DayZ the choice is left up to the player. Every weapon has its good sides and bad sides, not just in the areas of accuracy and power, and with weapon reliability and maintenance that could be well reflected in the game. Ask anyone who used one in combat and they'll tell you what a piece of crap the M16 is. That why there have been so many successive 'improvements' made to it. Yet in DayZ it works just as reliably as a Kalishnikov and hits harder too. That's just not correct. On topic: Thermal is fine as long as it's attached to a gun that can't snipe. The problem is people carrying the L86 just for the thermal, then pulling their 35lb, 5 foot long AS50 out of their backpack for the shooting.

    Clan oriented AS50 TWS duping...

Intentionally duplicating items is breaking rules.

    satchel charges can destroy trees?

No, but they'll stay knocked down until then (good for hiding trucks!)
  14. The 'fix' seems to be to instantly dump all the LOD levels as soon as the dead soldiers load on your computer, which for me leads to a framerate of about 2 and my backpack looking like cherry cobbler after my extended family's gotten to it. I have to go into my video properties and toggle the memory setting off of 'Default' and back again to get things looking normal. This isn't much of a fix, and is very inconvenient to have to do considering the places I have to do it (Stary tents, NWAF, Green Mountain...). And since barbed wire is only used to grief and doesn't even stop zombies? It can be removed. +1
  15. We had this happen to a guy in our group. We had to drive the car up next to him so he could get in one of the seats. After he got back out he could move again. Weird thing was, he had a doppleganger stuck in the front passenger seat until the next reboot.
  16. If I make it a whole week without invisohacker shooting me in the head from 0m, I count myself lucky. You, sir, enjoyed a month of bliss I'll never know.

    AS50 TWS (hacker found dead)

No beans for you. Are you here to play the game or just fast-forward to the part where you have all of the top gear and are so bored you quit? :emptycan:
  18. Before the ridiculous stores of spare loot can be addressed, the means by which they were acquired need to be addressed first. The various duping methods, script creation and server hopping make it far, far easier to get the so-called "rare" items in the first place. If those items were appropriately rare, there wouldn't be enough of them to allow the luxury of storage. Anyone who found them would put them into use immediately. My sense of the intended way of things is that someone might have a pair of NVGs after a few days, or a sniper rifle, or a ghille suit. Not all three. While a complete hive wipe needs to happen in a bad way, clearing all characters and removing all tents and vehicles from all servers, without addressing the other issues first we'd just be in the same situation in a couple of months again. Hoarding is the best way to take all of the drama and tension out of the game, but people will continue to do it as long as the activity is more gratifying than some other activity in the game. At the moment, there's really nothing else to do except wander the countryside looking for loot and vehicles. It's natural that people will want to hold on to the things they find - even if they never actually use them. The number of vehicles hidden away in some dark corner of the forest which are never actually driven is staggering. People find them and, recognizing the scarcity, stash them away for fear of losing them. This negates the whole purpose of vehicles, and at the same time denies them to the people who actually would put them to use, break them, blow them up and put them back into circulation at the next server reboot. Implementing a punishment for blatant server hopping (such as spawning the hopper back on the coast after x+3 server joins within 15 minutes) is a solid way to make server hopping both risky and not worth the time it takes to hoof it all the way back to the NWAF - this alone dramatically cuts down how much "rare" loot a person can turn up in a night and encourages them to maybe spend their time doing something else. Introducing a way by which gear is actually removed from the server is also crucial. Whether it's some form of 'durability' which eventually makes items useless through use, or a simpler mechanic that merely deletes items randomly from a player's corpse on death, every faucet needs a corresponding drain or the sink overflows. We're drowning in loot.

Why the Hero skin is useless

The only thing I don't like about the hero skin is that it glows in the dark with that white shirt. At least the normal survivor has a chance of giving you a black shirt on someone's screen. Anyone who is any kind of veteran survivor would know better than to wear a white shirt.
  20. It really comes down to quality of materials and construction. The 'Patrol Pack', for instance, is made by Blackhawk which does proper military spec gear and appears to include a water bladder (which is about $30 on its own). That 'Coyote Pack' is some no-brand thing. Great for cosplay I'm sure but I'd hate to rely on it in a real life emergency.

@Mike on US 2135 Dallas... The beast of Cherno.

I do not think that word means what you think it means.
  22. Patient Zer0

    What happened?

How inconvenient that you'll have to spend hours server hopping to dupe all that stuff all over again.
  23. Graphics glitches did the same thing to my squad. Pilot couldn't see the trees! This game is awesome.

Duping seems to be fixed with the new DaYZ

You're overlooking the fact that even with a tent/vehicle wipe there would still be hundreds or thousands of NVGs, AS50s, ghillies, etc. out in circulation which aren't supposed to be there. And people would be twice as eager to recover them after a death in that situation, so they'd be a long, long time in being removed from the game. The game's still in alpha. Character wipes should happen on a regular basis, just like every other MMO in existence during these phases.

    Jesus I am Evil

I think you're confusing 'evil' with 'lazy'. Try leaving the coast and shooting someone who didn't spawn in the last hour.
