Night time doesn't serve a purpose

I play on night servers all the time. I love playing on night servers. I love that I literally have to walk INTO a zombie for them to notice me. I love that I have literally walked INTO a zombie because I can't see where I'm going. I love that there are fewer players around, and the ones who are around seem to be of a higher caliber of human being than daytime Cherno COD deathmatch kids who just got done hopping the empty servers at the NWAF. I recently got a pair of NVGs which made the night time easier. For the last month I've been able to get by just fine without them. When we had a full moon, that was cool. When we had no moon, I got by with well placed flares and chemlights and my flashlight. Are you sprinting across the countryside with your flashlight turned on? Yes, you will get shot. Are you turning it on for a second once in a while just to see where you are? It's a lot harder to notice. Also, get a military flashlight. The red beam is MUCH harder to see from a distance (unless the person has NVGs, in which case they were going to see you anyway).
  2. It's the 'dead soldier' objects laying around. Bad geometry or something. You'll get these artifacts anywhere there are dead soldiers permanently decorating the landscape.
  3. How good is your eyesight? I've been able to score headshots with the M4A3 CCO at 300m, but obviously the ACOG will make that kind of precision a lot easier. Damage-wise, sound-wise, accuracy-wise, they're identical. Oh, the flashlight on the A3 is super handy. Good to see where you're going and even better to blind that jerk with the NVGs.

    Green Moutain

Where is this Green Mountain place? I can't find it on my map, there's just this spot scratched out with furious scribbles and handwriting that kinda looks like mine that says 'KEEP AWAY'. I don't remember writing it though.
  5. It's weird. Someone finds something like this, thinks to themselves, "Huh, this is shady, I'd better ask if I'm allowed to do this." and makes a forum post. Just stop and think about it for a minute. If it feels like an exploit, it is. If you're just asking if you'll get punished for doing it, the answer is no.

    Shenanigans on US 441

Last night at around 11 pm (Central), I (Patient Zero) and a friend (Steaz) were clearing out from a town and heading south when we saw two other players running across a field. We dropped into the grass (wearing ghille suits, and it was night) and just laid there watching the other guys. They ran to one end of the field, stopped, spent some time looking around, then turned around and ran back the other way. They went behind some trees and we lost sight of one of them. Being paranoid in DayZ now, I was convinced the missing guy was on another server to 'ghost' behind us, so I started crawling eastwards to get under some pine trees. My friend stayed where he was, messing around with getting his CZ550 out and planning to shoot the one other player we could still see. We spend a good few minutes just watching. Suddenly, we both hear on Direct Communications, 'Die mother fucker!' and automatic weapons fire from right beside my friend. Maybe it was a PDW or MP5, I don't think it was an AK or M16/M4 and definitely nothing larger. I saw no muzzle flash, and the noise could have just been transmitted through the cheater's mic. After what seemed like a LOT of shooting, my friend was killed. I stayed under my tree trying to see where the guy was but no one stepped up to loot my friend or anything. Another 5 minutes pass and suddenly I hear behind me, 'Hey, tell me how hell feels, you fuck.' I turned around, saw no one (just trees - I was deep in trees) and then promptly died. -760,000 blood. That's not a typo. I mention it to my friend and he tells me that he had the same thing. It was bedtime for me so I just chalked it up to being outsmarted by someone with bad social skills and went to sleep. Woke up this morning with a nagging feeling and went back into the server and sprinted from the coast to where our corpses were. Sure enough, they were completely untouched. AKS-74 Kobra, still there. Ok, that's not a huge prize. M4A3 CCO, still there. That's odd. My friend's NVG. My NVG. The spare NVG in my backpack? All there. No way a legitimate player would leave those behind. My GPS? Not taken? This can't be real. All around my corpse the trees had been knocked over too. Like a bomb went off, except I heard no explosion, saw nothing. I first suspected that the second player we saw, the one who vanished, was the culprit but I don't have any proof (and have no names). It's possible they had nothing to do with it at all, since it sounded like they'd just moved on down into town and were shooting zombies between when my friend was killed and I was. I have no real understanding of how the hack was accomplished, but it appeared to have the following abilities: An ability to make the cheater invisible. An ability to locate other players and possibly teleport to their location. The ability to cause massive amounts of damage to a relatively small area of the map, knocking over trees and killing players in that area.

To the guys with 2 Choppers on US 1051...

I've never come across even a tenth as many vehicles, both parked or currently in use, as I have on 1051. It's awesome and mystifying all at once. Over the weekend I: Stole a big blue truck from a camp that also had 2 tractors, a Gaz and a dirtbike. Lost the same big truck, Found a Gaz in the middle of Polana. Lost the same Gaz. Stole a tractor from the same place I stole the truck. Found another tractor far to the west. Shot at someone driving off in a pickup truck west of zelenogorsk. Saw three guys driving off in a big green truck from a supermarket. Found another dirtbike. Saw someone cruising a vehicle spawn location in a pickup truck. Shot at someone driving a blue van out of 'the Factory'. On other servers, all of them, combined, I found a bicycle. Once.

    Zero's Taxi Service

I'm thinking about changing up my playstyle and basically offering my time as a taxi driver for people. Obviously I'd be limited to the servers where I have a vehicle stashed somewhere, but I could pick people up, take them to a destination and wait for a specific period of time, then take them away somewhere else. Like the movie "Drive", whatever you do during that time is no business of mine. I'd only have a few rules. 1) No pick-ups or drop-offs inside Cherno, Elektro or the airfields. 2) You don't take anything out of my trunk that isn't yours, and take everything that is yours when you leave. People could pay me in full jerry cans, canned food, meat and drink. For an extra charge, I'd be willing to provide overwatch from near my vehicle. I imagine this would be useful for roaming medics and groups looking to quickly get somewhere for a raid. Would anyone out there have an interest in something like this?

    Zero's Taxi Service

Yeah, I'd love to hook up with a regular medic or three and be their wheelman.

    Zero's Taxi Service

Yeah, I'm prepared to be taken advantage of, carjacked, murdered and directed to drive someone out to the ass-end of the map where their clan waits to humiliate me. But you know, it's a lot better than creeping through the forest alone at night. :D

    Is Camo Clothing still bugged?

I put on a ghillie suit yesterday and ended up ok. I removed my backpack first just in case, but my rifle and inventory items didn't vanish.
