This is exactly how it should be in standalone, and I'm pretty sure that is the direction rocket is leaning towards.

A simple set of zombie changes to make DayZ what we've all wanted it to be
MarcDaKind replied to Blay Wayne's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Currently zombies is not a threat at all, the only thing that can kill me is either a game bug or other players. Zombies just serve as human detectors spawning where survivors are and tracking them down helping other bandits see the survivor, this needs to change. Zombies should be slower than players (50-80% of player sprint) but move at the same speed in buildings. To compensate for this they should require a head shot to kill (body shots only slows them down), and do much more damage when they hit you (4-5000 blood) and always inflict pain and bleeding. They should also move in greater numbers and spawn independent of players just like animals, this will most likely be possible with the new optimized standalone engine. This will make zombies a threat if they catch you off guard or you are looting inside a building, but also less of a irritating pain in the ass while fighting other players outside. tl:dr: Make the zombies act more like they do in The Walking Dead series, 28 Days Later is a great movie, but I have never been a fan of zombies that can run faster than people... -
Humanity should be removed in standalone, play the game as you want to play it!

Double post

Of course I know that I can turn it off in the options menu but there is really no reason for it to be there, I'm also addressing the people using "sickening head bob" as an argument to keep third person... Read the thread before posting the same BS argument again and again...
-
There is a real reason why every successful MMS is a first person only, and that is because third person totally breaks gun play. Try to imagine competitive CS with third person, it would totally break the game and result to a "peek fest" without exposing your body. Just like DayZ is now! It's totally ridiculous that people are this persistent on keeping third person in this game, everybody have gotten used to it I know (even me), but after one week of first person only they wont notice it's gone anymore. The private server I play on removed way points two weeks ago because that is the way SA is going to be, it was hard and painful at first; but after some days I got used to it, and using a compass and navigating actually started to become fun and rewarding. GPS and rangefinders also become really valuable items, that earlier had little relevance with way points on. The mix of immersion, looting, tactics and fair gun play results in a successful survival game, third person takes away from that experience. Immersion: Third person makes you care for the person you see in front of you, while first person makes you feel you are in the actual apocalypse. Looting: Third person with cross hairs makes painkillers redundant, and driving with a broken windshield glass don't limit your vision, so looting those items is not as important as they should be. Tactics and fair gun play: If you have seen enemies hiding in Polana factory, and they have seen you on the north hill. It is almost suicide to try to run down there and engage them. That is because you know they are sitting behind the concrete walls and looking at you using third person, although you cant see them. So the second you leave cover they will know exactly where you are, and rise up and kill you before you have a chance to react (This happened to me just that I was the one hiding at factory exploiting third person, he didn't have a chance). And to the FOV argument: It is true that the real life Field of view is around 180 degrees, and that the current in game FOV is way to narrow. But we don't see those 180 degrees as clear as we do on a PC monitor, most of those 180 degrees is used to detect movement which is then subconsciously processed in the brain. So the most fair and authentic way to portray vision in the standalone to increase the FOV to around 100-120 which is what I usually use in other games, and then add those peripheral dots we already have that register movement covering those extra 80-60 degrees. This is a much more believable way to solve the FOV problem, than to attach a floating magic eye hovering 2 meters behind you, trying to argue anything else is beyond desperate and pathetic... And the ridiculous head bob while running should be completely removed, it is completely unrealistic because our body compensates for the movement using the inner ear in real life; which is why we can run marathons without getting sea sick! They should also perfect the peeking mechanic making it expose less of your body and more of your head, although it works ok as it is.

2/3 of your torso? Why do blatant liars like this even bother to post at these forums, it's nothing less than utterly pathetic to use straw man arguments to support a lazy feature that everybody knows don't really fit in DayZ. I understand that all the good "thirdperson on" arguments is used up, but please don't result to using examples everyone that has played DayZ knows is wrong. Why cant you just go and play WarZ; I think you will fit perfectly with the casual nature of the game, and the constant lies the developers keeps telling...

+1 I have seen this idea around for some time now, and this would be a really nice improvement! I hate having three 30 round magazines with 10 bullets in each, and being unable to combine the 3 magazines into one.
-
I love both ideas, but the second one will never be possible in lazy country DayZ (3rd person servers). It would result in everyone crouching all the time when driving, while using the blatantly unbalanced third person to navigate. But if third person gets removed in standalone (If rockets follows his vision, instead the casual players whining), It would be a great feature adding some tactical depth!
-
The fact that DayZ players can say things like this with a casual tone is just purely disgusting, sorry if this offends anyone but I'm just describing the bad taste I got in my mouth when reading this. What has happened to PC gamers, why is the easiest and laziest option always what most people want? Why don't people want immersible realistic and balanced gameplay, that makes you have to actually play smart to succeed?

Possible Fix for Server Hopping on Standalone
MarcDaKind replied to logan23's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Two very good solutions here, I actually thought of number two myself a few days back. Most players wants to have one main home server where they have all their vehicles and camps, so I don't really see any real problems with solution one. Me and my group play on a private hive server, and it is much more fun because you get a real sense of community and remember the names of the other frequent players and clans. The only problem is when the server is full, but it is well worth it to wait those 10 minutes to get that private hive experience! Being able to go to NW barracks and server hop 10 times on low pop servers until you get that coyote and MK48 really needs to be addressed. -
Everything you said here is so true, have my beans! The problem for me with allowing 3rd person servers is that every good server with a stable high population is a "3rd person ON" server, because the majority of the gamers always pick the easiest alternative when they start playing. And after all these months with the mod out, everybody has grown used to exploiting the lazy 3rd person and are afraid of change. Hell even I play on a "3rdP on" private hive server with my group, and use it all the time to have an edge over the enemy or when I'm driving. Although I know the gameplay would be ultimately more fun with if everyone used 1st person. I personally feel that the DayZ community needs a slap in the face with the 3rd person removed, and after a week of whining they will get used to it and benefit from it in the long run with more immersive and competitive gameplay. The real question is if Rocket is going to take that chance, because I'm totally convinced that he doesn't feel it belongs in his game but that he could't remove it in the mod; just like the way points and the debug monitor that is confirmed gone in the SA.
-
A magical set of eyes floating behind you will never remotely be able to provide more realism than some restricted FOV, trying to claim anything else is either silly stupid or utterly pathetically desperate... This post nicely sums up why 3rd person needs to be removed.
-
I currently play on a private hive server with everything on except name tags. The reason I do this is because it's the only Norwegian server with players on it, and that is saddening to me. I personally hate what 3. person does to the game (unprecedented situasional awareness; ability peek over objects undetected, easy driving; shattered windshield doesn't matter. no head bob; unaffected by pains etc...), but are forced to play with the setting because the majority of the player base are casual and lazy. Therefore selfish as it may be I would love to see 3 person removed in the standalone, it has really no place in a gritty and authentic zombie survival game! And don't get me started on how way-points removes the necessity of the compass, GPS, rangefinder, and basic navigational skills. But that is already confirmed gone in the standalone! :D

I would love to be able to spray camo patterns on my hippy van, making it easier to hide it in the woods and so on...!

The debug monitor is gone forever as it was a development tool, and the blood icon and other HUD elements will be removed in the standalone if I remember rockets comments correctly. I do believe you will be able to find devices like this http://healthyme123.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/blood-pressure.jpg to aid you in monitoring your blood pressure!
