Bazbake, amazing post. Have all of my beans. All of them. Besides the meme spewing kneejerkers about, i think op raises a very valid point, which, in part, not only relates to dayz, but lets leave it there. I believe this game likes to be treated as the mystery you mention. Thats why its map is huge, thats why its so eerily silent, thats why at night the map feels even larger, and more dangerous. I remember so very vividly my first incursions into cherno, asking for help when shoot on sight twats were not as ubiquitous as now. Then i showed it to some friends, and we sinned. We got into the wiki, we raided the nwa several times, used mumble, shot on sight. Now i have a brand new l85a2 on my hand, rangefinder, m24 on my backpack, and i feel invincible. And you know what? I'm also bored. Theres no mystery anymore to any of chernarus, and i miss newbs running around with lee enfields, learning the tough lessons it taught in the distance. And i know its my fault. Im not saying there wont be a wiki, but its most obvious exploits can probably be circumvented with a bit of randomization. I know i loved binding of isaac because of how vague the descriptions were, of how you had to choose whether to eat the telepill or not. Its what's drawn me into dark souls. I LOVE not knowing, being thrown into a world, and told me to survive, using only my skill. Ring any bells?

this is a great post and you should feel good. Here are my beans. Variability of playstyle would be amazing, i think most people here would see it as a "class", and gamifying dayz more, but i believe it can be done as a simple set of abilities, or ways of interfacing with the gameworld. The example you mentioned of the 10 year old is excellent for that. None is better, each is playing is own game, and how would a bandit react to a non-threat? Would he do things differently in cherno or in the wilderness? It brings up cool questions.

theres a few posts about this, electrical plants could be sabotaged as well. THeres a pretty good, alive post somewhere around the forums. Add you ideas to it!

it may be all about soundsystem, but the truth is, the visual and sound imput from the game will never be enough as to emulate our real ears and eyes. You can know pretty well the general direction from where a sound came from, even the most hardcore stalker mods have some sort of indicator of attack direction. It does not dumb it down, it compensates for something that a 2d representation of reality can never do. +1.

Sniping in DayZ. The built in hack & how it should change for the better/harder
synesthesia replied to Cheboygan's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
excellent post. Some difficulty curves need to be watered down, like the UI ones, but these kind of stuff i approve. It makes the game have a lot more weight, body. Pointing and clicking does not a sniper make. -
many-universes theory, Humanity, inertia, other stuff
synesthesia replied to amaterarerasu's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
excellent post. Rocket! Shut up, sit down, read this! -
this is a great idea, different map dynamics, other than just getting the best loot sounds amazing. So far, as soon as you get endgame loot, survival becomes quite easy, the environment is not as dangerous as it should be. Hostile fauna, hostile climate, few survival-apt spots, the works.

hackers, and shoot on sight idiots when on early game.
-
hackers are out of control. Has there been any official word at all on this issues? Its really beggining to break the game for everyone. On one of my last plays, i spent 3 hours with firneds after work getting to the nwa, just to get our inventories suddenly wiped, and teleported to the roof of Stary's big red building, to 3 hackers with as50s, unarmed, and unable to escape if we Dc'ed. Itsjust stupid. What can be done? Battleye is becoming some sort of satire of himself
-
Damn, hackers are really becoming the bane of this game, is there any official info if anything is being done about it?
-
It happenned on LA14, today at 12.21 am, in buenos aires timezone, i think its -3, but im not sure. All the items were wiped, and every player in the server teleported to a roof, where some dick with an as50 proceeded to kill everyone. Fun times.

Side Chat only available for those who find radios
synesthesia posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
What the title says! There could be a rare item, the radio, that would enable a channel to speak with whoever has a radio as well. It could lead to some interesting "anybody out there?" moments, good ambushes, or just wider team work. -

Hotfix Build 1.7.1.4 Rolling Update (was 1.7.1.3)
synesthesia replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
its working beautifully, love the no weapon spawn, but fpss are gradually dropping to nothingness when entering towns. Keep up the good work, this is shaping up to be way, way more than amod, or even a "game". Thank you for it! -
Unconventional Weapons: Non-Lethals, Homemade and more

good stuff here! if we keep adding weapons that favour the DM aspect, then it will gravitate towards that. Give us ways not to kill! -
Blocking buildings and server hopping as a loot exploit.
synesthesia posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This was discussed here, ill provide screenshots next time i log in. Gotta work this weekend :(. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=7135 I think mods checking this forum should see it. Entrenchment is cool, but if my tools cant cut the wire, then it becomes an exploit of sorts, doesnt it? Maybe we could get a fix for the cat9 interactions? Cheers! -

How the hell do you vault? Do you mean the running to prone animation? -
Electric and Natural lighting's V 4.0
synesthesia replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah, i like this idea. Maybe some settlements could be done, and more agressive players would try to either retake the town, first taking out their electricity? This has potential! Is it doable? -
The "I know that guy" visual system
synesthesia replied to Mutonizer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
this is a good idea. There are limitations with the deep, deep, uncanny valley arma 2 rests on. Thats why i think the bandit skins, while not working perfectly, kinda helped a little. This might help a lot with the ShootOnSight problem weve been having. Kudos! (is that how you say it?Not really my mother language, this one. ) -
Whoever completely barricades buildings

yep, just make it possible to remove wire with tools equipped and voila, griefing ended. -
Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed
synesthesia replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Theres quite a bit of truth in this. Trust is an amazing gameplay element, this kind of removes it. I know there will be exceptions to it, but the truth about this, is that most players you will find, will now dont have a clue to your intentioons, not even the slightest, and probably shoot first. i know i will, and in my entire time with the mod till now, i havent killed a single player. Maybe the ability to pin them down, direct chat working to tell them to freeze, stuff like that will work. A friend came up with an idea today. What if we do add Body language? Maybe bandits would have more agressive, brutal movements, maybe more military, like checking their weapons?; while the survivors move more 'innocently'? A good mocap session could probably help a lot with the discussion here. The only thing that worries me here is that player interactions may be narrowed down. I know that the bandit sighting was a pretty much one sided choice, so we can all agree that it was flawed. Butnow, rather than taking our time to choose if giving trust or not, im afraid we might see everybody as bandits. Being it a game, in the end, there is no remorse, so killing is not that big a deal if you dont show a player consequence. It becomes just loot, might as well be some gold coins in there. anyway. Cant wait to get home and boot it up, and meet with my brother in the woods. Gotta get back to work! -
Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed
synesthesia replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
What deveren said. Survivors are usually not hostile, ergo their skins. Bandits do, and that shows some sort of inclination to hostility, or at least some strong paranoia. What you call a handicap is actually the balance you name once and again, if we dont at least have a reasonable suspicion of who is hostile, hostile units, who shoot first, have a big advantage. Not only that, it opens the abiliy to fake friendlyness, and then shoot in the head mid salute. Then again, this is the time to test this stuff. Its not that big an issue ATM. Rocket needs to check how it affects the game, and react accordingly. You will probably dissect my post, adamantly defend the only consequence for (in)humanity in the game, attack it sentence by sentence, and continue to predate the thread. Goodbye! -
Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed
synesthesia replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
This guy is on the right track, i think. The best zombie themes are not about the zombies, but about the people. This is big, and is working amazingly well in this game. Getting into an infested town is tense, but spotting a survivor or bandit approaching a town when you are inland makes my heart skip a beat every time. Ill go back to what i said earlier, the skin is not perfect, with the shoot on sight stuff, but, something needs to represent at least a bit of the inclinations of the character. Bloody hands maybe? Harder to notice, still works inside the limitations of the arma 2 engine. We can read body language, thats why when youre about to get mugged you usually kind of see it coming, etc. etc. The arma engine cannot simulate this. The skin helps with this, but it is a bit of an overkill. In any case, i agree with rocket that now is the time to go nuts and try stuff. BTW, love the cough idea. Give us some sneezes too! And let the aim shake when it happens! Man, sneezing in a bad position would be amazing. Reminds me of that great bit in MGS. -
Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed
synesthesia replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Well, im probably late to say this, but here are my two cents. If you are going to remove bandit skins, then let there be some sort of cue as of the humanity of the player. In a real situation we wouldnt shoot on sight; we would study body language, what they are saying before approaching, to see if theyre friendly or not. I think the bandit skins represents that, given that the game cannot show the subtleness of the stuff i said before. So maybe some sort of cue, or a fixed Direct chat, whatever to not turn this into a deathmatch? I know i wont trust anyone, and probably shoot first and ask questions later, since my humanity changes nothing. Im afraid this change will turn the silent chernarus into a warzone. Im not sure thats what we love about the game. In any case, the mod is Fantastic. I hadnt been this engaged with a videogame in ages. Amazing work, thanks a LOT for it.
