    I'm new and need tips

    - Primarys weapons (with a couple exceptions) should be used for shooting players not zombies - Secondary weapons should only be used when you HAVE to kill zombies because you've gotten yourself backed up into a corner. - Your feet should always be your first line of defense against zombies, just run away from them. Zombies are pretty ease to lose if you run into a building and out the other side or just dodge around several corners. - Try to always be observing your surroundings, if you hond down alt you can look around without changing the direction you are facing. Don't let some joker with an axe sneak up on you and ruin your day. - Try to loot quickly, the more time you spend messing your inventory the less time you are spending observing. - Try to always have antibiotics, morphine and bandages in your inventory. - The Lee Enfield is a totally legit gun but you should only fire it at players because it will usually bring more trouble your way in the form of more zombies and players, it's one of the loudest guns in the game.

DayZ is draining at first...but it's fun.

Well obviously snipers rifles are meant for killing players not zombies. In fact I would argue that you should avoid using any primary that isn't silenced on zombies because it will likely create more problems (in the form of both additional zombies and players) than it solves.

    1 month in Dayz

I've played most of the maps out there. I think my view point is a little skewed because i've been playing this game for a while, if you're new you might see some of this differently. Vanilla - still a great map but I've explored pretty much every inch of it and I can get fully geared really quickly so it's kind of boring for me at this point. Basically there's nothing left to do. DayZero - basically the same as vanilla but it has adjusted loot tabels... not really interesting if you ask me, you might as well be playing vanlilla Dayz 2017 - it's basically vanilla but with little to no military spawns and less food... still not really that challenging imo the only thing that's really changed is that shootouts will usually involve lee enfeilds instead of AKs Dayz Mercenary - The main change is that there's NPC hit squads that will likely kill you pretty quickly if you run into them.... it's certainly interesting but once you learn to avoid the NPCs it's just vanilla again Dayz Epoch - they've added this weird trading system where you can buy cars and planes.... it's an interesting idea but ultimately not that much fun because by the time you earn enough cred to buy one you could have just found one and fixed it up Lingor - there's so much miliarty stuff it's not really worth creating a camp and a lot of the buildings are buggy, cool island theme though Panthera - kind of a middle ground between Lingor's tropical theme and charnerus(sp?) with a huge mountain range seperating them. The problem is nobody plays this map so there's not really any point in playing by yourself Utes - really small map with a good amount of military spawns so there's potential for a lot of pvp... but if that's your goal then while complicate it with zombies? Namalask - this map is certainly interesting there's only 2 supermarkets but a lot of miliary and industrial spawns so food is actually harder to come by than guns and ammo. Also unlike a lot of other maps the cold is actually a factor here. You'd think this would lead to a lot of interesting game play but it usually boils down to somebody camping a choke point with a sniper rifle. If you can get past that however I've found that is the most difficult map to actually "survive" on it's still not really that hard though so you will likely find yourself getting board and heading to a choke point looking for players. Fellujah(sp?) - like somebody else said the only place worth going is the airport and once you get there there's like 50 military barracks lined up so you can walk out with whatever gun you want almost... it kind of takes the challenge away even more boring than vanilla imo Takistan - this map is also quite boring... You go into a town get some low level loot run over the next hill... oh look another low level town... repeat for about 3 more hills then eventually you find some military loot. I've never actually seen another player on this map which makes me think I'm not going to the right places (which I kind of doubt because I've able to get myself gearred up pretty easily). I think it suffers from not having a real central area to funnel players to create interactions. If too big and there's no choke points and no really "must visit" places that I'm aware of. Tavania - I actually like this map a lot it's got a good mix of urban and country areas but I don't play it anymore because well... origins. Origins - This is pretty much all I play at this point because there's actually some stuff to do once you get gearred up. I really like how you can choose your starting location, it makes it much easier to meet up with friends. Trips to salvation city or the secret lab are pretty interesting and there's enough choke points and grouping of high value spawn to create pvp action despite the relatively large size of the map. Also the building construction system actually gives you a long term goal so that there's actually something to do once you get fully gearred up.

I get what you're trying to say but honestly aside from randomly bumping into another player in the middle of no where Stary and NWAF are the most exciting places to visit. I'm sure the OP will have pleantly of fun regardless but I was trying to give him some more direction to his stated goal of getting a sniper rifle... Maybe I did go into a little too much detail but I'm sure he'll do something to mess it up and lols will result.

Ok I haven't seen anybody post any really solid advice so let me lay out how I would get a sniper rifle if I were so inclined. I'm saying "if I were inclined" because I don't really find sitting on a hill waiting for somebody to come by really fun. If you manage to get a sniper rifle it's unlikely that anybody you snipe is going to really have an upgrade for you so you're pretty much just killing them to ruin their day.... but whatever it's your story, not mine. There's a few ways to get a sniper rifle: heli crashes military spawns pry it from another player's dead hands (obviously the most manly but also the least likely to happen) stumble upon a poorly hidden camp First off avoid cherno and elektro.... not only is there not very much in the way of military loot or heli crashes but also nobody running in the street is going to have a sniper rifle. The snipers will be sitting in the hills around the city or on the roof of a building waiting to snipe people running around looking for guns like yourself (or atleast that's what I would do if I were so inclined to snipe) Instead you want to head north to Stary Sobor and make sure to hit an deer stands you see along the way. You may have heard it's a pvp hotspot and that's partially true but it's honestly less of a crap shoot than cherno or elektro. First, before you enter the city look info it from the tree line with your binocs. Do you see zombies spawned there? If so somebody is in there. If that's the case keep looking around until you spot them. Try to see if it's just one person or a squad and what kind of gear they have before you decide if you want to pick a fight or not. If you don't see zombies spawned in the city scan the hills north of the city for snipers if you manage to see one try to sneak up on him and kill him if you don't see one go and loot the town. Try to enter the city through either the north or east (near the military spawn) coming through the SW will likely spawn a lot of zombies and tip people off to you being there. Remember you want to be in and out asap, Stary isn't really a place to sit and chill for long period of time unless you are specifially trying to get some pvp action and even then I would wait on the north hill instead of the town proper. Also it's worth noting that the fields around stary frequently have chopper crashes so you might luck out and get your sniper rifle there. But as with any situation look before you leap and don't rush in before you scope things out. If you still don't have a sniper rifle by now you should atleast have a decent weapon so it's time to head to the north west air strip. First head to the barracks in the SW corner of the airstrip, this is where you will get some of the best loot of the game (the only better place being a heli crash) Once you loot those barracks look (from the tree line obviously) to the other side of the runway where the hangers are. If you see zombies there might be other players around so make sure you check the control tower and fire station for snipers but if you don't see any proceed around the south end of the runway to the military spawns on the other side. Avoid running on the runway itself... that's just asking for trouble. Usually trying to loot the hangers and control tower will draw a lof ot zombie agro so if you decide to do that be quick about it. Make sure you hit the barracks on the NE part of the airstrip as that is another place highly likely to yield a sniper rifle. If you still don't have a loadout you are happy with at this point you should just leave and comeback later. You could make the long trip over to the NE airstrip but honestly the NWAS is the best place to get high end gear so you should just spend a lot of time where if you really want a sniper rifle. The last method is to find somebody's camp. The way to do this run around the edge of the map and look for places YOU would try to hide a tent or a car or w/e and go scope them out. But honestly this is super boring so it's not really worth it.

Pro Tips! Post Pro Tips Here!

I would advise destroying the gun entirely by trying to put it into a full backpack if possible instead of leaving it lying around where some little kid could pick it up, gun safety ftw. This is usually a good idea except when you are going to loot a high risk area like stary or NW airfield. In those sort of areas you don't want to be sitting there trying to shuffle things around in your backpack so I would advise going in there with extra room in your inventory.

    Does Anyone Actually Like...

I can deal with night when the moon or stars are out but not when it's pitch black. I actually had a really fun time yesterday when it was night time and it started to rain while I was running around in the woods. My vision went way down really fast so I found myself stumbling around in the woods in the pouring rain. I hadn't found a compass yet and the only company I had was my AK-74. Fun times.

[OFFICIAL] 1.7.2.4 -- Stuck at loading screen

Running: ARMA2: 1.62.95389 DayZ: 1.7.2.4 Managed to get into a server through dayz commander with normal load time. I was in for about 10 secs and saw a message that said "battleye client attempting to update." About 20 seconds later somebody with a sniper rifle spawned directly on top of me I panicked thinking it was hacker and hit alt-f4 (lol don't judge it could have been). I was able to get into another servers a few mins later so I guess things seem to be working now.
  11. lol at "gaggle of chuckle fucks" gonna have to use that one later

    Playing solo is problematic

But TS makes the game more fun. It's much more fun to play with my friends and be able to talk to them. Sorry having it isn't realistic enough for you but this is a game that's supposed to be fun.

    Hello! Noobie grief.

It's a pvp game. You got spotted by another player and pvp happened, problem? Why were you climbing that ladder in the first place? It seems like a silly thing to do if you think about how many different kinds of guns can easily pick you off like that. What makes this game interesting is that you could have gotten spotted and pvp might not have happened but you really shouldn't have assumed that's going to be the case. Getting a working mic might help a bit. I know I would be less inclined to shoot somebody if they said something like "hey don't shoot me bro!"

I'll jump on board here too. At least in this game you are only exposed to d-bags for 30 secs or so until the firefight is over instead of being stuck with them for a game that has 20min - 45min rounds.
