Quick question on finding morphine and medical supplies
hoorah (DayZ) replied to hoorah (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Excellent! Thank you! If theres a 21% chance of morphine I'll take the long roll to stary and hope to find something there. Where did you find this BTW? I looked all over. -
Quick question on finding morphine and medical supplies

I had heard that might help. So, you hold W while you roll? Not tap it? Thanks for the help though, its going to be a long roll to stary from novy. Better than rolling to cherno though :) -
Invisible Man or are people just that good?
hoorah (DayZ) replied to luke033's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lots of people log out at the NW airfield. They spend 20 minutes running to it looking for NVGs or a rangefinder, get there, don't find what they need, and logout. Then later when they log back in they loot cycle and see if they can get one. This happens especially when its the last item you need (after getting a nice pack, sniper rifle, AR, etc). So, its very possible the guy spawned in on you. I guess maybe after killing you he was afraid you had buddies and logged out? As for Vybor, who knows? I got sniped in the supermarket in zeleno on a server with 5 people in it. That one irritated me a bit. -
Weapon tiers? And other questions.

The best way to show another player you are friendly is to point a lee enfield at them. That way they know you are trying to protect them from zombies. -
I find this happens more on high pop servers (that it takes forever to get in). If I die, and I want to respawn, I usually go find a low pop server. Not necessarily because I don't want to encounter other players, but because I want to gear up and I don't want to spend 15 minutes waiting to get in.

It irritated me much when I died and lost all of my progress, especially to a sniper when I wasn't paying attention. If I was in the mood for heading up north, I didnt want to have to slog through kamenka looking for a pistol. What changed all this were private hives (servers that save your character, but not on the main hive). That way I could have several different characters depending on how i wanted to play. I've got one geared up ghillie on a private hive, a regular old dude with an enfield and an AK in the regular hive, and another guy on a private hive with an M4 CCO/enfield. If any of the characters gets killed, and I'm not in the mood to 'gear up', I just switch to another. Sometimes, even though I have geared characters, I'm just in the mood to start fresh on the coast and meet some newbs in cherno and help them out, so I go back to the hive where one of my characters died and redo that one. Really breaks up the 'fuck, I'm dead, now I don't want to play' feeling.

How to gear up on respawn while avoiding zombies?

http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/78737-my-first-experience-sniping-at-night-and-some-tips-for-newbies-to-avoid-being-sniped/ Not sure I would count on that. I don't really snipe anymore, but if I do, its only at night. Thats when its the most fun. -
My first experience sniping at night, and some tips for newbies to avoid being sniped
hoorah (DayZ) posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Hey guys, I always thought people who sniped in cherno and elektro were the biggest douches of all. After getting a chance to try it myself....my opinion hasn't changed. I never liked shooting people for the fun of it, I always preferred to stay hidden. A few days ago, I ended up killing a ghillied up guy with all the gear - NVGs, AS50, rangefinder - the works. I figured since with my play style I don't really come across these items, I'd give sniping the old college try. Since I've never done it, I figured I'd be sniped myself pretty quick anyway so no biggie. I climbed up on top of an industrial building in cherno, and when I was ready to play, it was night. As in complete darkness. Gamma hacks helped some, but not significantly. Must have been a moonless night. Anyway, I get out the NVGs and take a look around - wow, this is nice. I can actually see stuff. More importantly, I can see light sources. I'm sure you can see where this is heading - this is how I found my targets. At night, if you are looking for people, flashlights stick out like a sore thumb. Sure, flares and chemlights let you know a player is around, but with a flashlight I know exactly where you are and where you are looking. Since the AS50 doesn't have night vision, I had to track my targets with the NVGs and wait until they stopped moving, aiming for the flashlight, or I had to track them until they moved into a somewhat lit area (flares, fires, etc). I didn't get any satisfaction over killing people that didn't know I was there. I don't much care for the number of kills I have. I actually feel bad that I ruined those people's day. However, the feeling of tracking that flashlight through the night, waiting for the perfect time to strike, was intense. Since I couldn't use the rangefinder at night, I found distances to certain known positions of light sources and made estimations based on that . It worked okay, but wasn't perfect. I ended up killing 4 people with the as50 and then I had had enough. No point in doing it any longer. I was about to get down when I heard someone coming up the ladder. Switched to my m4 just as he was getting off the ladder, we shot at each other, I won. Dude was loaded with tons of non-dayz items (radio, laser finder, soldier clothes, some other junk I had never seen before). He had the l85 with a thermal scope, but I left that there. So, TL,DR; Your flashlight gives your position away at night like no other. Flares tell me someone is in the area. Flashlights point me exactly to your location. Flares eff up NVGs. Throw a few flares in an area and all I see is white. If you don't want to be sniped, play on servers with nametags. They give away your position, yes, however, they are much more detrimental to a sniper trying to hide. If you are smart enough to not use your flashlight, dont stop in lit areas (fires, flares, other peoples flashlights). If you want to loot or mess with your gear or type, do it in the dark. If someone is shooting at you at night, run AWAY from the sniper points and light sources. It will change your range and hopefully the sniper has no re-zeroed. I won't be sniping anyone anymore, however, hunting flashlights at night from ground level is my new favorite thing. -

One other thing - using your flashlight inside a building is still visible outside through the windows. -
Dayz without hackers, dupes and ammo
hoorah (DayZ) replied to Jex =TE= (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree that it will be a big change to the gameplay, but I still think the ghosting is more of a problem. It doesn't matter if the person legit worked for hours to find an AS50, NVGs, and a ghillie or if he just spawned it in, I can still sit at the top of dobry and server hop until I spawn in behind a sniper and take all his gear. I think if there were suddenly less scripted/duped gear, you'd almost no sniping as a result, because no one would risk their gear to a server hopper. -
New to PC Gaming - Will this run it?
hoorah (DayZ) replied to iRyzzz's topic in New Player Discussion
Its not the best setup. If you're on a super limited budget, you can make it work because those HP towers have nice beefy power supplies, meaning you can just drop a good graphics card in and be on your way. Unfortunately, the seller already put an ATI 5450 in there, which is going to be a bit weak, so that is money wasted since you will need to buy a new one. Also, the 2x3.0 ghz does not make it a 6.0ghz machine, nor are the xeons from that era particularly fast compared to the i3s and i5s of today. I actually just put together a very similar computer (xw4300, 2x3.2GHZ Pentium D) for my mother. Its not a horrid experience, but I think it would struggle with DayZ even with a decent graphics card. A better option would be to pick an amount of money you want to spend. Subtract about $100 (if you're on a low budget) for a graphics card. Take the remaining money and look to find a pre-built system that has a 400W power supply and an open PCI-express graphics slot. -

Tried this last night. The GAZ can not take very many hits from a lee enfield before it blows up. Ask me how I know. I've made a huge mistake.... -
No wonder I ca NEVER find a vehicle :-/

Sometimes I place map markers that say 'cars' or 'tents' where there are no cars or tents, just to keep people on their toes. For example, if I'm entering stary sobor from the south, I might put a marker on the map that says '3 tents' in the woods south west of my position. Anyone in the area that sees the marker on the map that is in my area may be inclined to check it out, keeping them off my back. I suppose you could put those markers off map just to dick with people - have them run 8k off the map and find no cars. Mildly hilarious, sure, but probably not something I'd do. I also do something similar with flares. If I'm leaving a city to the north, I will chuck two flares as hard as I can south, preferably onto the roof of a sniper position if possible. Anyone in the hills will be looking far away from where I am by the time that flare goes out, unless, of course, they saw me throw it. -
1 - maps are usually in supermarkets. Sometimes pubs, apartments, or the offices in elektro (still havent figured out if this is an office or a school). 2 - You can use them to distract the zombies by throwing them, but I can't say the last time I've done it. Usually, I just run around the zombies, letting them aggro, and then ditching them in a building. I suppose they could be quite useful if you're trying to maintain your stealth so other players don't find you, but don't worry about that at this point in the game. 3 - The weapons question shows up often. Lots of people will tell you to stay out of the big cities to avoid being killed by other players, but I don't particularly agree with that. Depending on where I spawn and the direction I enter the city, the first 5 buildings I hit are usually the corner pubs, the red brick houses, the church, the firestation and the supermarket. Supermarket is usually last unless I really need beans because of the exposure. I generally avoid the small one brown house. If you hit those first 5 buildings in a big city, it is very rare that none of them have a weapon. Taking this approach may get you killed by another player or a sniper, sure. I would rather spend 30 minutes running to a big city, trying to loot it, getting killed, respawning, and spending another 30 minutes doing it again than to spend 3 hours running through the forest and finding nothing but a hatchet.

This sounds a bit like those 'anti-violence' rallies they have in urban communities every time some kid is killed during a drive-by shooting. The whole 'community' comes out to 'stop the violence!' and then 10 minutes later its business as usual. People with guns shoot each other in an attempt to control resources. People without guns wail over the unnecessary violence. Nothing changes. -
It is good you come to Chernarus during summer. In winter it can be....quite depressing.

PLEASE. bring the starting gun back for use new players.
hoorah (DayZ) replied to blaxar's topic in New Player Discussion
You guys an your "I need a gun" posts. I'll let you in on a secret - I rarely shoot at zombies. Maybe I'm an exploiting a-hole, but if you learn to ditch the zombies, you'll learn how unnecessary a gun is at the start. If you're shooting aggro'd zombies in the open, guess what? That makarov isn't going to do shit. You're going to get hit more than you do now and you're going to waste 1 mag per zombie if you're lucky. This is in addition to giving away your position to other zombies AND other players. If you're waiting until they're going slow inside to line up headshots, guess what? You've already figured out how to get away from zombies without shooting them! If zombies could hit you out in the open while you are running, that would completely change the dynamic of the game, and my opinion might change. As of right now, thats not the case. -
Weapons that you wish were in the game
hoorah (DayZ) replied to jem73's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't know what purposes these things serve other than having a lower energy round for use at indoor pistol ranges. The range I usually go to does not allow any rifles in .223 and up because it will penetrate their backstop. The 'rifles' they use on the range are chambered in 9mm for lower energy, so they don't penetrate. I have never seen this outside of that scenario, so, I can't say they'd be a common find in an apocalypse. Most people that keep guns at home have the normal stuff - ARs in 223/556, AKs in 7.62, bolt actions in 30-06 or .308. Normal stuff. -

don't carry 4 lee enfield mags. -
You magically spawn in behind another player and then complains when he disconnects? I'm no fan of people disconnecting in a firefight, but spawning behind someone isn't exactly what I would call fair either. If you had spawned the next town over and snuck up on him, I'd be more sympathetic.

So I have a tent and I can cook meat...
hoorah (DayZ) replied to cindyanne1's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah wait until you lose an FN-FAL night vision to an inventory glitch dicking around with tents....that was a sad day. Props to you though for setting up a tent near cherno for noobs. Sadly though, a tent in cherno is like a giant anvil hanging by a thread over a big red circle in a cartoon. -
Correct. I was confused as well about this, especially since all the guides I read were calling the 'winchester 12gauge'. I finally learned that the 1866 fires a .44 Henry, which I guess is a pretty big round, so its similar to a slug.
