Please post a link the the flashlight thread where rocket posted. I searched and could not find it. But that said, I'd like to +1 the OP and +1 the idea that it shouldn't take up your secondary slot. Maybe have them run on batteries? I'd love for all the nubs to be running around giving away their position at night. The other positive to this, is that there would be no more bitching about the night being too damn dark. How about them apples? -
Date/Time: May 23/2012 - 6-11pm PST What happened: Game didn't save character progress/position/inventory. Was at 50ish zombies killed, 5 murders, logged back in with 23 zombie kills, 4 murders. Where you were: Balota Airfield area What you were doing: Playing the game *Current installed version: 1.5.8.4 *Server(s) you were on: Ducksoup Seattle -> Re logged at Anti-Sardine Alliance Seattle *Your system specs: i7950, MSI gtx560 twin frozr, Windows 7, 12gb ram *Timeline of events before/after error: Got into a firefight in the bottom floor of the balota tower, tossed a grenade, saw players body disappear when he logged out, went upstairs saw another player, server restarted, logged back in, player was on roof of balota tower, Killed player on roof and about 30 zombies, took dead players stuff, spent ammo, picked up ammo, linked up with friends left airfield and logged out north east of airfield.. logged into another server, and we were all teh way back at the balota tower on the first floor

+1 This game should be BRUTAL not FUN. That was the original vision, and I'm glad there's people here besides myself that can appreciate that. You want the game to be more fun? You want to level your xp and kill boars with no risk and no pvp? GO PLAY WORLD OF FUCKING WARCRAFT WE DONT WANT YOU ANYWAY -

Don't run with people you don't know and you won't have the problem of people stealing from you. If I see someone I don't know, I shoot them in the face, then they don't steal from you. I dunno about you guys though. -

Side chat is a great way to get people to do stupid stuff. I was on a hill with my CZ in a prime position. My targets weren't doing what I wanted them to so I said in side chat "hey any friendlies in such and such town? I'm approaching the long barn, heard some shots" They don't respond, and sneak out to try to get the jump on that poor honest survivor and little do they know they've left me with a perfect shot. I managed to take out one of them with my CZ before I got bored and greedy and went for the corpse (before I should have).. . Point is, it's easy to get people to do stupid stuff if you're smart about it. -

Another guy tried to corner camp me in the hospital. I saw him on the roof on my way in. Filled his face with .45 .. pistol has a better rate of fire than the LE.. that, and you have to not miss.. -

The OP is a dumbass, the bandit system is being removed. Bandits account for about 1/6 of all players, and therefore account for about 1/6 of my total kills. PS it sounds like this is made-up anyway.. angry guy lost his beans wants to troll the bandits -

Lol wat? You basically want to nerf pvp. This game is pvp focused. Do you think soldiers find it harder to kill people the as they become more experienced? No dude. They become better at it. And for the record, player killing doesn't need a solution. It's part of the game. -
Ok guys, before you post, here's a good way to check if your ideas are good: Would it make the game less hard/uncertain/threatening at any given moment? If your answer is yes, the idea is bad.

So I can see in the new 1.5.8 patch, that all the whining got them to reduce the zed numbers. The first time I played 1.5.7 I thought the new zeds were hard, but I got used to it, and learned how to avoid them/fight them. The new zeds made the game fun because players now had to compete for the top of the foodchain. Agroing zeds in a city could be extremely dangerous because you might have to fight a large number (15-20) zeds, and running was often the only option. The last thing this game needs, is to become another run of the mill experience, because the minority of loud-mouthed-whiners complained that the game was too hard. This game is *supposed* to be brutally hard. So deal with the night-time, and deal with lots of zombies every where. Is this carebear apocalypse survival RPG or is it zombie apocalypse survival RPG? Maybe we should take out all the zombies and pvp, and instead the players could all do quests together killing boars in the forest for l33t xp. Sound good?

It's not just that they spawn, the louder weapons will attract zeds from *much* further away. I like the fact that I have to decide if it's worth it to start popping zeds where I am, or to take off and try to make a run for it. I think if they made it *possible* (but not always the case) to get away from zed agro, the spawn rates and everything could be upped even further. Like, what if zeds couldn't get through closed doors? Or you could even add a barricade feature that locks down the door from both players and zombies. This would make it possible to run inside a building to get away from zeds, and while leaving you surrounded, would be better than death.

Incapacitating Weapons and Actions

Id like there to be a melee option in general. It'd be nice to be able to knife someone for the silent kill. It be nice to be able to beat back a horde of zeds so you can get a clear shot at a group of them, say with the butt of your gun. -

I agree with Nasher here. They aren't brutally frustrating. If you're getting mobbed by 1.0 x 10^6 zombies, you're not doing it right. Play smart and that doesn't happen.

And instead of shooting we could just give eachother hugs, and lots of humanity would mean you gave lots of free hugs. 1.5.7 didn't have enough zeds, and now there's less. So, what does it matter? Less zombies is a bad idea. It's whiners winning over what the vision for this game is.

Rocket has said himself that this game is not about balance. The winchester isn't even that good aside from the fact that it's great vs Zeds. You should worry more about CZ spawns than anything. -

You guys should look at anti-sardine alliance Seattle.. The other day me and a few friends were playing on it. I was first and it was dark, my buddy spawns and its daytime for him. I respawn and it's daytime for me. Every time it started to get dark, we could respawn and it would be daytime. It's lame and ruins the immersion. And also apparently fucks up the loot spawn system and the logon process.

So I spawned on the coast tonight after getting pinned by a horde up north after making a stupid move. With nothing to lose, I moved straight into electro to see if I could find some decent loot and get kitted out. On my way into the city, I find a CZ with some ammo. I kept moving, and found some more CZ ammo, sweet I thought. I was gonna need all the ammo I could carry. As I moved into the city, I beeline for the residential area containing the hospital and church. It's raining. Nearby the church I come across a lone survivor. In the dark he doesn't see me. I sneak up behind him and take him down. Pop pop. A few minutes later I see another survivor head into the church, I sneak in to see him looting. At first he has his back to me, and he doesn't see. As I sneak up for the headshot, he turns around. We have a quick close quarters gunfight, he's bleeding bad but taking shots at me. I hop behind a pillar to avoid his fire. He goes to reload and I pop out and finish him. He had an ALICE pack and a 1911 with 6 clips of ammo. Sweet. Next stop is the hospital, I'm looking for blood packs, a friend is moving into the area but he's badly injured. A survivor starts taking shots at him. My friend shoots back and manages to injure the attacker. He's at the end of the street from me and I take my first shot with the new CZ. I missed, forgot to set my zeroing. I run after him. I'm too late, he's killed my friend and is hovering over his corpse, no doubt looking for goodies. I take him down with my new 1911, and I type in side chat what that was for. Don't. Fuck. With. My. Friends. I head back to the hospital but I end up just finding some equipment and some ammo. I move to the roof to see if I can get some shots off with my CZ. Electro starts to heat up. Survivors are popping off flares like crazy, I can hear zeds groaning all over, gunshots all around. A survivor is typing in side chat "Friendly in Electro church". Trust no one. I look at my surroundings, and I can barely make out a tower building. I saw it on my way in, I reckon it has a good line of fire to that church. I make my way over and set up overlooking the church. Not long after, a survivor starts making his way out, there are Zeds all over the street. I take a shot at him. Missed again, I need some practice. He takes off running, agroing all the zeds around him. My shot however has drawn some agro as well. A few zeds clamber up the stairs and I dispatch them with my 1911. There's more zeds downstairs, but thankfully they can't find a way to negotiate the tower stairs. Another survivor shows up. I take a shot. Missed again! He doesn't know where the shot came from. He takes cover, doesn't realize that he's about to give me a perfect shot. I set my zeroing to be sure and take the shot. Finally, a hit and he goes down. My friend is on his way back. He's got zed agro. He runs through town attracting even more agro. He spots another survivor with zed agro. Shortly after I see a survivor carrying a flare run up the main street flanked by 15 or so zombies. We laugh at the chaos that's going down. A few more zeds come up the stairs and I take them down. I'm wondering if this tower is going to be my tomb. The church doors open again, and a flare flies out. A survivor peaks out to see whats going on. I take a shot at him. Missed again! He moved at the last second. He runs inside the church and closes the door. A few minutes pass and the doors fly open again. This time I see him slowly sneak out. He's looking right at me but I was waiting for him. I put him down. Nothing to do now but figure out how to get out of here and get all my survivor loot. Then out of nowhere a survivor runs up the street flanked by a horde of zeds. He decides to run into the church to make a stand. The sight of a horde of zombies running into a church after this guy is hysterical. He makes his last stand there. There's a few zeds left downstairs, most of the rest must have been drawn off by all the chaos. I take them down and keep moving. I make my way over to my first CZ victim. I loot his corpse and go for the guy at the door of the church. Two quick shots crack past my head. I take a hard right and find cover. Where the hell did that come from? I take cover behind the church for a few minutes. Then a flare lights up the church again, and I hear footsteps. I guess he didn't want me to beat him to all the loot? I pull my 1911 and move into the church, he's crouched over some loot. I start aiming for the head and I see him look up at me. I empty my clip into him and he goes down. It's raining hard now. I survey the church and it's a bloodbath. Several of my victims, plus the poor guy who made his last stand at the church altar. He gave those zeds a good fight though, there's 10-15 zed corpses piled right up the middle aisle of the church. There's too much loot for me to carry. I fill up my inventory, compasses, hunting knives, matches. Me and my friends are going to get seriously set up with all this loot. I can't carry it all. My friend is going to make his way to my position, but I'm going to need to camp here a while. I train my 1911 at the door and make sure my clip is full. I hear shots, CZ I think. I see the silhouette of a zed run past the door in the rain. Then another. Then two more. Then another. And another. More shots. I decide to stay put and wait out the chaos. I'm not sure if those guys made it or not, but I'm ready to light up anything that comes through the door. It's dark and raining hard. Electro gets very quiet. The rain lets up. My friend crawls through the door, I almost didn't see him.

The OP needs to read the forums. This stuff has been talked about to death. The ALICE pack holds 20 slots, which is enough for bandages, another weapon, multiple magazines of ammo, multiple cans of food, etc. etc. IRL all that stuff would start to get heavy if you added much more. Personally I think a hybrid slots + weight system with some items allowed to be stacked would work a little better, but I don't think the engine can handle it. I think arma is capable of having more enterable buildings, but Chernarus is the oldest map, so it's built for the minimum system requirements at release time several years ago. Chernarus is also huge, so that might be part of it. Also, really ARMA isn't the best engine for this game? What would be a better engine? Frostbyte 3(Good luck getting EA to licence it to you)? Unreal? Source? This is a MOD, not a standalone game, and is being developed as a labor of love, not a AAA blockbuster. I doubt that a more suitable engine exists out there. Driving, enterable buildings, huge terrain, realistic weapon ballistics, weather, day night cycle. Not something you can just pull out of your ass, those features take years of development by teams of software engineers. Scratch that - there may be a better engine - the ARMA 3 engine.
