Being a hero versus being a bandit
Virfortis replied to The_Dude (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
I had a long post about how carebears at least play a more difficult DayZ, but that would be above your intellect. The carebears, in DayZ, are the hardcore ones. -
Stop saying "friendly" and immediately trusting me
Virfortis replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes I'm going to be an egotistical dick, kill people because it's fun, then make a forum post crying so I can sleep at night. Pfft, man up dude, just admit you're a dick like every other DayZ player and move on. If you really want to work together, wait for WarZ, it'll be more for traditional gamers. Keep talking about being all "hardcore" because you kill people. The hardcore players are the ones that don't kill "just cause" Just admit you're a douchebag and go back to cybering on Second Life. -
Keep spawning in with bandit head
Virfortis replied to syscocyr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
All that KoS gameplay is coming back to bite you in the ass. That's what. You chose to kill people, and now have consequences for your actions. Now you're going to have to actually decide if someone is worth shooting or not, as it makes you an instant target to everyone else. It's a fantasy thing, getting the bandit skin slapped on you, but the KoS is also fantasy, so it evens out. -
That's how it SHOULD be, but snipers get it easy in DayZ, so yeah you have a scripted weapon.

The plate showing the Kills, Zombies alive etc disspeared.

Maybe with the debug monitor gone, kids will shut up about kills/murders. -
It's sad how people get into the "sniper rifles are balanced" camp while ignoring history, fact, and common sense. Starting with history: Every multiplayer FPS has the god-complex sniper rifle. Battlefield (Infantry Only, Strike at Karkand), CounterStrike(Close range sniping, WTF?), Baww of Duty, Quake, hell even Republic Commando had it. They're always the "oh so pro" option, and whenever someone does something else, they're some low-life sprayer because how DARE they stop the sniper? Classic example: Soldier Front, don't even think about doing anything less than sniping, even if you're leading the board, you're still a noob. This form of discrimination against traditional methods is the hallmark of the sniper rifle gameplay. It's never about what takes more skill and planning, let's face it, all the good sniper spots are practically mapped out. It's about perching up on a hilltop and playing Where's Waldo...toddler edition. It's the attitude and sense of entitlement that online multiplayer breeds, the cancerous cesspool of egotistical nature, that all spawns from the abuse of this dick-comparing weapon. Not only is it never used like a precision tool, it gives all the advantages without any disadvantages. There is no room for a God complex in a survival FPS. Now for fact: Either sweep the area, which gives them plenty of time to DC or have others log-in, which negates the whole point, or never play the game at all. In an authentic situation, the sniper would just be the sniper. He would have no means of simple escape, and he couldn't just summon buddies at will. This is another advantage snipers have that others don't, MUCH more mobility. They also don't have to worry about zombie attacks OR shot placement. The game does it for them. Now for common sense: Oh wait, that'd be lost on everyone, my bad. I'll spare the trouble and end this here. Go ahead and have fun knowing I'm right when I have history backing me up.

It was meant to create lulz, so mission accomplished.

We've got 15 dozen games out there practically built around sniping, so this one has to have the kiddie-cannon because it has other guns? We have to tailor to the lowest common denominator? If you REALLY wanted difficulty, you'd take away the easiest weapon in the game. Instead, we're left with this uncanny-valley style of "hardcore" in which we want hard, but for someone else, not us.

Here we see the stationarious noobus, otherwise known as the 12 year old camper, laying in its natural habitat. Notice how he needs both an easy to use rifle, and nameplates with distance cheat-sheeting to even compete with the common player. This is how the camper makes up for the testosterone deficiency inherit in the species. These people bring a new spin on the DayZ universe that separates it from other games of the FPS genre, by negating the survival aspect and enforcing the FPS deathmatch mating call. If you listen very carefully, you can hear this call. This camper is, sadly, moved from its preferred habitat, and prefers a much more simplistic world, bringing its neolithic mentality to a world trying to evolve. However, survival of the fittest does not actually count when everyone survives, and as such the lowest skill player usually ends up being the longest living. Through metagaming, mechanics abuse, and egotistical stroking, the sniper proves once again that it is the reason the world will not evolve past the stone age.

The OP has a point, without sniper rifles we would curb a lot of the whiny bitches running around and turning DayZ into another Call of Duty map. Exhibit A: The haters on this thread. We can sit there and say duping, but that is only a temporary fix when you think about it. All those guns will gradually be piled up and eventually we'll be right back to here again. Unless Rocket can make guns degrade over time, and that time be a lot shorter than the average time it takes to find another of the gun, I think we're due for SniperZ to prove that zombies don't make a good game. It's not like the zombies or starving to death are an actual threat. EZMode pansy-snipers are an artificial threat, taking advantage of the relative ease of sniping and living zombie free on a hill they can easily DC from. It's too bad the community prefers raping and cyberbullying over legitimate FPS gameplay, we MIGHT have crawled out of the "all gamers do is kill people" hole we've been stuck in for decades. Thanks, community, for doing to the FPS genre what the Virtual Boy did to peripherals.

This is not a suggestion for the game, this is a suggestion for the forums. It's time to step up and clean up this slum of a forum. So why do I think we need to enforce this to some (some, not full) degree? Because these forums are a joke, a real, bona fide joke, when it comes to discussion. Every other post involves the one liners any decent person would be sick of. "Your tears are delicious" "Go back to WoW" "Bye bye cya" "Welcome to DayZ" "This is Alpha" I say enough, it's time to end this once and for all, break out the ban hammer, and get cracking on these people. The forums don't need them, the game will still take them, they are doing more harm than good, and it's time they were weeded out. Not even Rocket has the power to bring them to heel now, but an army of community moderators that don't take shit from anyone? That's going to alert people once the bans start being handed out. The Escapist is probably the best place to pull from on this, so here are their rules: Put Some Effort Into Your Communication A well-made thread or a well-written comment engages its audience and facilitates discussion. We do ask that posters take just a little time to make their posts as readable as possible and keep their responses on topic. We also ask that you take a moment to check your spelling and grammar. Here are a couple things to avoid: Low Content Posts This could be anything from simply answering a question to posting LOL. These forums are used for discussion and low content posts halt discussion. In order to participate in conversation one should present an explanation of the reasoning that informs your opinion. "I like pie" isn't an argument. The fact that you like pie is well and good, but why do you like that pie? This explanation offers others an opportunity to respond to your opinion and avoids forum spam. Pictures, Links and Videos These will all be considered low content posts if not accompanied by a well thought out opinion, debate or reasoning. Pics, links and videos should help to strengthen your stance or opinion, not the other way around. Topicless Thread Creation Posting a thread without any discussion value, or with a deliberately misleading title, will get you penalized and your thread locked. This includes creating a poll without an accompanying discussion.

So, I use hacks, this is WHY
Virfortis replied to manwitdaplan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Numerically, random shooting rates are going down because people A) Stop playing (school's back in session, KOS kids have to go back to class) and B) Players are spreading out, alt-f4ing, an server hopping more. What we need is a statistic: Bloodbags given per hour and Murders per hour. We then can utilize that statistic to get a general picture of helping vs. hurting. Alternatively, we can track the ratio of putting a player in sights and whether the player shoots or not. This would be very similar to the Dead-Eye achievement in Star Wars Battlefront. The overall percentage of player encounters to murders is well above 80%, given that everyone but a select few have adopted the KOS mentality. Rocket is a lot of things, a lot of good things, but he quoted the wrong statistics by just looking at players vs. murders and thinking that was the picture. Just because the NUMBER of murders go down does not mean the murder RATIO goes down. In truth, this is more likely to cause the ratio to increase. -
Simulating single life respawns by forcing players to simply "play now" with no ability to join in a clan would probably work best. This is quite possibly the ONLY title where the Modern Warfare 2 server system (I.E. broken console process) MIGHT (it's debatable, and can be experimented upon) actually help the game instead of hurt it. On a serious note, this is wrong. There is no freedom in DayZ, only Dick-tators with sniper rifles.

Zombies should be removed from DayZ
Virfortis replied to Professional N00b's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Why not? It already is. The zombies serve no purpose beyond the background. -
You Do realize DayZ was DESIGNED towards the pompous elitist, right? The griefers and all? This has nothing to do with elitism, and everything to do with increasing quality. It boils down to the motto of "say nothing at all if you can't say more than shit" The whine posts and "OMG carebear" threads would quickly be buried if more attention was given to thoughtful posts. Gradually, people would come to realize that they're not actually getting anywhere by posting a thread about why they kill for lulz here, or why that bandit camps there, etc. The annoying stuff would slowly die down to become less of the 4chan level headache it is now. This is especially true when mods start a zero tolerance policy. Hey, blanket nukes are the way to go when it comes to the internet.

How much would YOU pay for DayZ standalone and Why?
Virfortis replied to sparta436's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, but clearly potential and hype does not a decent game make. DayZ is proof of that. It takes actually caring about more than the griefer crowd and blancing or moderating the abusers out. -
Today I have been legitimally global banned for cheating
Virfortis replied to Thadeum's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's sad that even the moderators are getting on the same harassment bandwagon. This man got bored to near tears, as do all intelligent gamers when the average FPS shows up. DayZ has worse hacking issues than other big name titles, and hacking is only done for two reasons: Player is bored Player wants to progress faster There just happens to be no progression in DayZ, which means only one is possible. So while coincidence is not causation, the fact that DeathmatchZombies has more bored players in it hacking than other big name titles is an astounding mark for the lack of actual creativity. -

Virfortis replied to sparta436's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not paying a thing if there's sniper rifles and easy mode PvP Now an actual survival simulator? I'd pay top dollar for. -
Server slowed down and it double posted for some reason, please delete this thread.

Stop trying to apply science, logic, reasoning, and math to the human mind. There is no concept of balance, or even thought that runs through the average DayZ players mind when he lined up his sniper rifle on a hill. There is never anyone asking if something worthwhile will be gained in-game, and there is no intelligence to dictate whether it's cost effective to risk interacting with someone. It's simply "hurp derp, points for teh winz!" Nobody rationalizes what they do in DayZ, most just admit to being a mindless kill-toy and move on. Why? Because to think, to process, and to comprehend what such a pointless endeavor the KoS system is would be to do more thinking than the neolithic level of the mind-numbing FPS does today. tl;dr Your intelligence level is too damn high! For DayZ and its community, anyways, I'm perfectly happy poking around the hypothetical like this.
-
This is fake, there was no hacking or lulzy snipers wanking off on a hilltop. Therefore, it was not DayZ, at least not the DayZ the community loves.
-
Welcome to DayZ, the full open PvP zombie simulator. Now you see why sandbox titles are for assholes, and why the only good ones are singleplayer.
-
Because it's not a perfectly viable strategy, it uses the excuse of respawning to explain away all sense of social interaction. Even running away is a social interaction, but EVENTUALLY these KoSers would die off anyways due to illness, or having nobody to help them when they're in trouble (and in reality, they would, frequently) In DayZ, there is no need for others, so likewise there is no need for thinking. It's how gaming works, and it's why mature gamers fight every day to prove gaming is a medium worth paying attention to. Unfortunately, DayZ only hurts their argument. Honestly? This is just an MMO version of Postal 2, so good luck defending the "everyone would do this" argument. You're practically encouraging psychopathic shooters.
-
So in other words, the best way to survive is to not go into major cities. Which makes it a walking simulator. As someone that's lived for a month straight, I can tell you, this game does nothing for actual survival. The same aspects of survival are the same as any other big FPS, just avoid the hot zones. So...way to prove DayZ is just a fantasy survival game.
-
The game isn't dying, there's plenty of carebear level KoS mentality to go around. Now, the actual original theme and design of DayZ as something different? The wake was last week dude.
