What MineZ is Doing Right, and What DayZ Could Learn From It.
Virfortis replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I forgot that this game is so realistic that eating food restores blood instantly, ammunition is infinite, engines can fit in backpacks, NVGs have unlimited battery life, zombies are deaf, we can disconnect, and people respawn. Face it, we're in a fantasy world. Survival is boring and there's nothing to do but shoot for points. -
I seem to recall The Road, where it was a group and not the majority. The idea and concept was that they were doing wrong in somebodies eyes. Even the author tried his best to make it morally gray, but couldn't. Unlike here where everyone that isn't a cannablistic rapist is a carebear. Let's look at how I want to play: I want to interact in an urban environment with people that may or may not be friendly, to achieve the mutual goal of survival because we're all screwed if we don't. Sometimes I'm not smart and I get shot and sent back to the beach, other times I stop murderers from getting away (though they just DC now). Bandits say I can't do that because "carebears can't play DayZ" They also have the tools and power to stop me from playing the way I want at any time, while I cannot do a thing about them unless I play exactly like them. How is that NOT telling me how to play? Because anything other than sitting on a hill and playing sniper warfare is met with "L2P carebear!"

We need to have smaller aggroing zombies until there's a gunshot. There really needs to be an exponential difference between tier 2 (crouch running) and tier 4 (gunshot) sound. Also, zombies in the woods, why this hasn't been done is completely up to speculation, but it doesn't take much time to form up an opinion.

What MineZ is Doing Right, and What DayZ Could Learn From It.
Virfortis replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've written 487 (488) posts now, with more than half of them dedicated to the topic of building a better gamer. When I finally started making some headway, people hacked the forums and brought the whole thing down, erasing all the work I did. There is nothing to be done about making a decent community, we just have to hope that a DayZ type mod comes out there and the moderators weed out the people every other society threw out. -

As I said, likely I'm just on a bad server. -

I'd rather be closed minded and focused on building a better game, than be so open minded my brains fall out while I cite "you can play my way and my way only" all the time. You say I don't know how things would turn out in an apocalypse, but anyone with some cultural insight would know good and well that it wouldn't be a mass KoS system that we have now. You're telling me that the only immersion in DayZ is mindless PvP, and everyone else is "clearly retarded." You and everyone like you are forcing the "kill everyone, you have a gun" mentality down my throat and I'm not just choking it down like everyone else. No, your problem is that I'm not enough of a prick to accept that there is nothing more than PvP. I don't care if someone kills for better gear, but this mindless killing for imaginary points is the hallmark of every other FPS out there. I say we break the mold and immediately everyone hates me. That's fine, that's part of the whole being different thing. And yet, if someone complains the night is too dark, the general consensus is to do just that. -

Technically, if they're selling a pass onto their server, there's nothing illegal about it. It's no different than paying to join the whitelist of another, privately hosted Minecraft server. Secondly, at the rate things are going, I'll be glad to see other DayZ-esque games pop up, maybe then someone will try to actually solve the community problems in one of them. -
The sheer lack of thought required to kill someone is astounding, that's why it makes for such a good casual game concept. DayZ is the only game where "roleplaying" is truly, TRULY possible, but that's not going to happen as long as we look at it like Battlefield 4: Infection Mode.

About that... Direct only works at a short distance, and even then I've never picked it up. It seems to be pretty far behind the actual player chatter too. It's a technical issue that needs to be worked out, but until then it's not really a feasable workaround. That said, I could have just been playing on a bad server. -
Horrible FPS with my monster rig, Help me out?
Virfortis replied to sparta436's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Zombie piles, basically. In my experience, they slow the game down a lot. Try getting the settings right in Armory, then go from there. -
Everyone else is pressing/forcing the way they play/think onto me, why can't I?

This, pretty much. I think it's time the intelligent people stayed put for a while. DayZ will only continue to grow in popularity, sure, but eventually someone will make a good game out of the concept. This must be how Everquest players felt when WoW came along, really. -
You only serve to prove my point.

The one and only Anti-PVP/PvP Discussion thread! Whine/discuss here!
Virfortis replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You just proved everything I said in your post. You exist solely to ruin other people's game. You play just for your own shits and giggles. You never take your fellow man into account, and treat them like absolute shit just so you can feel emboldened. You hide behind internet anonymity with "it's just a game! everyone else is a noob!" and continue the same broken record played by an elitist, immature, pathetic spawn that turned one of the best game genres into the biggest sack of douchebags the world has ever known. You assume the world will fall apart, then tell other people to stop assuming it won't. You insist on playing the game any way you want, but then tell other people they can't enjoy the game. You misconstrue rockets statements on there being no rules as a hollow license to abuse the game world however you want. You neither respect DayZ, nor its intent. It's just another arena deathmatch to you, and your post alone proves it. Every time someone replies to my post and treats me like shit, they prove everything I say. -
So we say we want a new game experience, devoid of any form of linearity, progress, rules. A world built specifically out of the revulsion of the common FPS. Yet, we encourage, enforce, and even go so far as to radically defend the same rutted mentality both forced and accepted by the community. We consider ourselves "hardcore" because we can click a mouse button. We think we are "the man" because we can waggle around a gun everywhere. This is DayZ, a world devoid of any sense of life. A world built on the same principle as all the other worlds built around us: The biggest dick wins. Rocket's wasting his time.
-
Remove NVGs, remove AS50/M101, watch the game get a whole lot better quickly. It won't happen though, because that's what the "hardcore" wants. Yes, the hardest of the hardcore wants DayZ to be just like Sniper: Ghost Warrior.

Let's not punish bandits - let's reward teamwork

Bandits get to play God in this game. Until that is fixed, there is no level of promoting cooperation that will work. -

Have you ever seen the Minecraft forums? The mentality is exactly the same in their PvP/Arena forums. "game is perfect! go back to wow noob!" -
At the end of the day, you got shot by the deathmatch virus. One by one the actual human beings are quitting this game, and I'm very hopeful that the community implodes on itself. In the aftermath, DayZ will grow for the better when the community is being led by level-headed players who have a vocabulary higher than "welcome to dayz lol" and "go back to wow".

WTF die with NOR reason ???INSTANT DEAD
Virfortis replied to WeedFoXx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
An AS50 one shot kills. Snipers get to play god in the game. They decide when you live and die at all times, and the only way to avoid them is to not go near their faovirte camping spots. It essentially turns the game into Armory mode. Unless they have buddies covering them, you can try to sneak up on them, but that rarely works seeing as how any sniper worth their salt can just shoot as close range as well. -

Virfortis replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If this thread proves anything, it's that PvP based games need to be locked away. DayZ proves that PvP without arbitration turns players into jackasses. Just look anywhere on these forums. So congratulations, you've proven why the hardcore PvP industry is dead! I wouldn't want to cater to click built exclusively on being an asshole either. -
L85A2 gone, snipers will reign supreme
Virfortis replied to TractorFiend's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Of course, because the internet is all about being the biggiest dick in the room, right? Never mind the fact that I've gone without dying for 3 weeks straight, nevermind the fact that I've been playing (under other names) in FPS games for well over a decade, doing reasonably well in any given scenario. Nevermind the fact that I've watched games get drained because people forget it's all a game. Nevermind the fact that I frequent the gym, get involved in college LAN parties, and work for charity groups on a constant basis. I'm not a big enough dick for you guys, so you all hate on me. To put it bluntly, the tears are delicious. I'm not a douchebag to people on the internet, and I can see that DayZ is nothing short of a casual singleplayer experience outside of the major cities. I adapt to a lot of situations constantly, like not playing at night because it's unrealistically dark, or living out in the middle of nowhere because that's the only way to avoid sniping. Or hey, not going into cities, I do that a lot. But nope, I'm not some high school flunk looking for kicks without having to pay fines. I don't lurk in forums ready to post "ur an idiot" at everything that doesn't agree with me. I'm a damn decent human being that knows how to act in public. The crybabies might not be good at the game, but they sure as hell are more respectful than the assholes in this elitist based community. I give decent posts on things where there IS no right answer, and instead of a rebuttal I'm met with cyberbulling and gay jokes. I'm sick of the "L2P noob" bullshit because I AM PLAYING. I'm surviving, I'm just sick of playing a singleplayer game because getting within scope distance of a player results in nothing more than ANOTHER sniper camping noob. Just like every other pathetic cash-cow FPS. I overcome the challenges and even then I see it's a stupid endeavor. DayZ is built for so much more than you PvP loving griefers will ever give it, and you know what? I've been saying this, and so far I've been right on all accounts. I'm not looking to sing kumbaiyah, nobody is, but the "this game is perfect! everyone kills everyone! learn to play noob! tears are delicious! go back to WoW!" bullshit is why we're supposed to have moderators that jump in and make people act like decent humans. -

Virfortis replied to TractorFiend's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sniping, Thermal, NVGs, all of them kill the concept and atmosphere of survival. If this is supposed to be an anti-game focused on immersion, or something that makes players think/feel, they why are these things in here? Seriously rocket, if you're trying to invoke some higher level of thought, or prove some grand point we didn't already know (people online are bullies, sniping ruins FPS games, PvP kills community, we know all this) then why all this? -
Why don't we take these zombies and put them in the woods? There, game is balanced again.
