I need a little feedback for something I want to test
Virfortis replied to Dr. Vaan MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's not the point, as long as you're connected to rocket, you're forced to have absolutely no rules on your server. That's in his list of agreements. Now, if you had a private version of the HIVE and some way to update, from a technical standpoint there's nothing stopping you. The problem is you're trying to not play the game "right" according to the target audience of DayZ, which thinks the "right" way to play is KoS griefing, because everything else is Left 4 Dead and WoW right? In my book, L4D>CoD -
Controversial Topic: BANDITRY IS DEAD.

In that vein, I love how the elitists would call this a "carebear" suggestion. Things elitists have whined was "carebear" suggestions in the past: Removal of ability to leave stuff outside the map barrier (claimed game was now dead) Removal of starting gun (said we were making it easier on newbies by curbing coast DM) Any hint of making bandit gameplay harder is seen as trying to make this game like L4D. Honestly? Rocket needs to tell the elitists, hardcore fanboys to GTFO. This is why games aren't made for them anymore. -
Try searching in the hills north of the really big dam in the north, but make sure to be along the north edge so you're not actually coming from the dam in case of snipers.

You're not going to be sanctioned by rocket, he likes his servers devoid of roleplaying/admin rules. It makes killing for fun easier. -
the best orienteering i have done
Virfortis replied to Murphinator's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't trust the sun or moon, I dunno why but they always seem to take me the wrong direction. To be fair, it beats starting near Cherno, trying to get to Guglovo, and ending up in in Sobor. -
Admin abuse or paranoia?
Virfortis replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Servers can be restarted and locked for about 5 minutes after restart ONLY to check to see if tents and the like are still working. (that is to my known ability, I may be wrong) During the restart, your corpse was wiped, so no it would have done them no good to restart for your rifle alone. You probably were engaging just at the server restart timer hit. -
The only way I can see the respawn button being accidentally hit is if you're quite hurredly trying to click Abort. Otherwise, just use the escape key to leave the menu.

Controversial Topic: BANDITRY IS DEAD.
Virfortis replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have yet to see someone rob someone on WoW Ergo I submit that DayZ PvP is no different than every other PvP out there, KoS. That's my speculation. Also, guys, enough with the "let your character stay in for X seconds." I'm telling you, make it to the only way to safely DC is to use a toolbelt items called a sleeping bag. Give it a 20 second animation, make it a small vehicle or something, and make the character get in it before he can dissapear. -

Zombies? What zombies? This is pure PvP.
Virfortis replied to AzinGaming's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I say Rocket needs to have 2 weeks of mass "I told you so" experimenting. First week: Remove the zombies, see what changes. Second week: Remove PvP, see what changes. Then restore everything, let the players decide. I'm sure most people will realize that DayZ wouldn't be DayZ without griefing, or random zombie encounters. It would totally be L4D right? Like...seriously...just LOOK AT IT! No shooting people OMG L4D L4D! Seriously guys, this all stems from unrealistic PvP, that's about it. -
Event: Freeside Trading Co. Open Trading - 7/20 - 7/22
Virfortis replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's not what the forums say... But see, this is exactly what the big fuss is about. Rocket says to actually try and make a game ourselves, we do, and the would be griefers turn to hacking and exploiting because they can't handle an organized group. Honestly, I'm glad DayZ is here, but I don't think the world was ready for it. :( -
The game begs to differ, 600m or 6m, according to DayZ it doesn't matter. Running away or not, according to the forums, it doesn't matter, you shoot them because murders are how DayZ rolls. So, you're wrong, quite wrong.

Who doesn't kill non-lethal survivors?
Virfortis replied to Joker716's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Except his personal space is about 800m -
So, minecraft style servers? I can dig it, if nothing else because then players can pick and choose the admins, thereby picking the establishes rules, thereby ending a lot of the community crap we have.

Not only does he give actual snipers a bad name, but he gives survivors a bad name by trying to prove killing for lulz is "true" gameplay.

Too many locked/passworded servers
Virfortis replied to Scourge79's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Have not been keeping up with that, thanks. If that's true, then this only further proves my point. I can now join a password protected server that will ban people for mindless shooting, so why wouldn't I? DayZ without the pricks sounds good to me. You see the mentality there? That's why this is continuing to happen. Right or wrong, it's here, and I have no qualms about it being here to stay since it isn't affecting the main hive. -

Virfortis replied to Joker716's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In DayZ, dicks are like the Borg. Superior in every way on a power basis because of an artificial glass ceiling put in place by the creators of the story, and will eventually turn everyone into them because that's how the creators see it as "realistic." -
Who doesn't kill non-lethal survivors?

In other words: "I was trying to survive, but then I got a weapon and figured killing people would be more fun." Nothing to see here folks, just true hardcore logic. -
Too many locked/passworded servers
Virfortis replied to Scourge79's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I won't be surprised if, before long, someone comes out with a mini-HIVE that only works on a single server. Yes it will be a ripoff and essentially seperate the community, but to get away from the problems of DayZ? People will do it. As of right now it's the only fix for the problem of pointless PvP, since players can't combat it and devs won't step in because of an anti-balance fantasy (anyone that looks at the history of DayZ can tell it's not anti-balance, just pro-deathmatch). So people will do it, rocket will blacklist them from the HIVE, so what? They go on their little world and adventure and we leave them be. -
A serious question for the PvP-phobes
Virfortis replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
KoS supporters miss the whole concept of an online game. Not only that, they say to treat everyone as KoS and if you die it was your fault. So in other words, it's your fault for trying to interact with people. On an online game With other people ........Anyone else seeing why DayZ is pointless now? I might as well be playing Armory. -
Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'
Virfortis replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What we did wrong was try and play the game? That's the core issue of DayZ. You're playing it wrong (I.E. dying) if you treat it as anything more than a singleplayer wilderness survival simulator. -
Punishing bandits? Shut up, seriously.
Virfortis replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Already stated, no PvP balance. He's already admitted that DayZ is just another PvP shooter, so I'm just sitting tight and waiting for someone who actually cares about more than the douchebags. -
Punishing bandits? Shut up, seriously.
Virfortis replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Give me a good reason why this game is good. Good reasons do not include false concepts, I.E. stress on IFF, realism, alpha, metagaming, hardcore. None of these exist in DayZ, it's simply a matter of camp deerstand, camp players. If you try to have any semblance of humanity, any notion or attempt anything other than shooting on sight, you are dead. No interaction, nothing. Anything other than being the biggest dick is just an avenue for dying in DayZ. Why would I download this? I can just as easily play Combat Arms and get the same lack of intelligence, lack of immersion, and lack of humanity. -
A serious question for the PvP-phobes
Virfortis replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That might actually artificially help, but to change the mentality of players is not so simple. My main, underlying idea, is to scatter the zombies out, make bulets worth something (increase rarity) and add in "chill" factors for snipers. It's cold up there ya know? Also, do we really need the AS50? What purpose does it really serve? Why are scopes not damaged by weather? Why are perfectly working guns coming out of totally wrecked helicopters? Why aren't the guns in bad shape so that they need repair? It's the little things. If a sniper wants to kill, fine, but he should have to weigh the facts out such as are zombies nearby? Can I make that shot? There's also that problem, people aren't as accurate as they are in a game. These are all little things, but at the end of the day, they won't change the murders = points mentality. -
I got killed by a server hopper. I quit.

I would weep for the next generation, but I don't cry. I only shake my head and leave the world behind. Think about it, these trolls? They're the one that'll be raising kids...that will be even worse than they are.
