  1. I'm sorry, I didn't know there was someone pointing a gun at your head. Should I call the wahbulance for that ego boo-boo of yours?

Killed at my own camp site

I found a campsite near the north dam. I sneak in there when the guys all go on trips. Often times I have to kill the ONE guard they leave, but other than that it's pretty simple. If I can, I don't kill people and focus on the vehicles where they keep all the juicy stuff. That camp is so big that I can sneak in and grab stuff at night. Oh and I camp on the other hill, watching them run around during primetime. I think their sniper guard might be edging my way, so I'll have to take care of that somehow, but I'm not too worried.

    What city am I in

Cherno, want some advice? Get to the shoreline and CRAWL buddy. Crawl along the waterline until you're out of that mod-forsaken city.
  4. However, and this is a BIG difference, something very important that you should keep in mind at all times. Rocket does. This isn't a total whine thread, there's some compelling stuff in here, so Rocket wants to see it. Don't like it? You don't have to read it.

Why do YOU Kill On Sight?

People KoS for the same reason they take drugs. It's stimulating, and they get mad when you say it's wrong, because it's a free country and all. As for what happens? The whole direct communication is pretty bad. The voice doesn't reach quickly enough or fast enough, and that 3 seconds of lag, coupled with people not hearing until you're close enough to slap someone, makes the gameplay very silent.
  6. Says the one laying on a hilltop with an AS50 shooting people and jacking off to blood-porn like every other FPS out there. If one wants to have a 1/50 private hive to acquaint oneself with the maps and basic mechanics, I see no reason for anyone to argue. We could call it DayZ: Training mode. Private servers could be DayZ: The Next Day since it has more of a community structure, people trying to survive, etc. The current DayZ could be called DayZ: The Fall since everything's gone to shit and people are shooting each other for points.
  7. My advice? Join a passworded server. There are lots of "mini-HIVE" type servers that even have some basic rules and admin rights. It makes the game much more enjoyable for the non-DMer/Hacker. Most of these servers will either have a clan name, or some ID/server name attached to it that will allow for a quick Google search. I don't think this really detracts from DayZ, as it's not related to the main HIVE at all, it simply gives real DayZ players breathing room from that's hurting the open game the most. Having the option for both means players will choose whether they want flexability, or a decent multiplayer experience. The only people being an ass about it are just crying tears of rage because they'll have less people to shoot.

    Im done for now

If your legs getting broke, I feel bad for you son. I've had 99 deaths, and a door ain't one. Seriously though, this is a problem with ArmA2, not DayZ. It's something that might be fixed come stand-alone, if we ever see it. Rocket has already stated that this is one thing he can't fix, even though there's already a fix for it. It's simply an "unrealistic" fix that allows your character to simulate more mobility than looking with pistols drawn.
  9. Here's the thing, while this is true on paper, it isn't in practice. I agree, I have no right to tell someone what they can and can't do, but LIKEWISE they're not supposed to have the right to do so, correct? Let's agree there. However, those DMing ARE telling me what I can and can't do. I can't play DayZ because they have the power to say I can't with the push of a button. I have NO means of countering them except to either go down to their level, or stop playing entirely. In short, you're telling me I have no right to dictate to a dictator, because no one should dictate what others say. While true, DMing revolves around doing just what you say I have no right to do.

    Nighttime is NOT realistic

I have yet to see an INTELLIGENT rebuttal in favor of keeping nighttime the way it is. Those that like it currently either have NVGs or no working monitors. We also have to remember that trolls don't actually get outdoors, so they probably wouldn't know what nighttime is like anyways. Check out Firefall's nighttime. Away from the cities, it's pretty freaking dark, but it's still possible to tell roadways from beach/grass etc. These things do not have a black tint, they have a dark blue tint. Often times, that's all it takes. ArmA2's nighttime is different, going from bright to black, instead of a very dark blue. This is ALL it takes, the ability to say "okay that kinda looks like a road." Also, headlamps. We NEED headlamps. It would be an interesting dynamic especially against NVGs. By looking at someone with NVGs, it blinds them. People have said that flares counter NVG, but they don't. In fact, flares barely illuminate enough to see the grass directly under it, and don't blind NVGs at all. They're not a counter, they're just a beacon. It's a sad case of fantasy for the sake of favoring griefers, something all too common in rocket's anti-balance mentality.
  11. Wow, you just had to go and open your mouth, now everyone that was thinking you were an idiot knows it for sure.
  12. You guys are the ones crying "it's just a game!" and tearing up at the notion that there's more to sandboxes than tearing up castles. The creative people are getting to the point of trying to throw the sand into others eyes to show that there's more to the world, and the DMers just go around bawling about how they don't have anywhere else to go that's fun. Well, it's called Call of Duty.

    Oh god, please kill me.

Just listen to some music while you wait.
  14. This isn't banditry though, this is "ZOMG LOOK AT TEH LEET SKILLZ!" In other words, he's camping with a sniper rifle, on a hill, picking people off. No loot, no progress, just shooting for lulz. That's not banditry. Banditry is killing for gain, not for imaginary points. They say there's no honor among thieves, but a thief is not a kleptomaniac. Likewise, a Bandit may kill for progress or survival, and may even raid cities for equipment, but to sit on a hill and C-Log every time it hits the fan? That's not banditry, that's just FPS deathmatching.

    B.I. doesn't give a shit about you...

You know what? This forum had a downvoting system once. All we got were gang-downreps. Legitimate posters with legitimate, non-whiny posts and concepts (even some mechanics) were terrorized a whole lot more than the average whine post. it became less of a system of control and more of a weapon to pick people off. I was even a victim of this once for suggesting that laying in one place for too long, because it IS Ruissia mind you, would give players the chills/shakes unless near a fireplace (good anti-camping mechanic) and was, within 10 minutes, downrepped over 40 times. I don't mind if someone disagreed, but it's the fact that I was assaulted with no rebuttal. I don't think it's right to hand that power back to the slime of this forum. The beans button is all we need, as it shows support and support only. If you agree with someone, bean their post, if you don't like them, move on.

Will ammo now start being valuable?

Pistols might be a bug, 45 ACP should definitely put the stop in anything that's still technically alive. Remember: Infection, not undead. Giving the zombies more health is not the issue. If we're going to really fix this, we need zombies scattered around in more than just the cities. That way, one does not simply sit on a hill and camp. Oh yeah, and climbing zombies. Rooftops should NOT be anything more than temporary safety.
  17. 1 million players? I wonder how many of that is actively playing, or just has a log on the HIVE. Honestly though, we shouldn't look at the numebr of players, but the quality of the game. If WoW has taught me anything, it's that large groups of people are usually wrong.
  18. The problem is that DMers just want to play a game. They tell people "dude it's just a game!" and get defensive when gamers want more than the daily shoot em up. These kind of people NEED to be shunned, and pretty much thrown out of the community, because a community is only as strong as its weakest link. Anyone that can't see DayZ for more than a deathmatch in a zombie setting, or only see it as "just a game" is very, very weak indeed.

    Negativity & the Experiment

Don't be a dick, the forums are not in the middle of an apocalypse, it's a public place, with public setting that should require you to act properly, like acting in the real public. The mods need to start demanding more mature, concise, and higher quality posts. Take a look over at The Escapist, or Extra Credits forums. Those go relatively grief free AND manage to get stuff accomplished (especially over at Extra Credits). Also, this fear of censorship? Mods are a good thing, they keep the government off our backs. How would you like it if, the next time the internet was attacked by corporations, they use the idea that the internet is too uncivilized to go unmoderated? How would you then feel if they quoted your post as a prime example? Those days are coming, it's only a matter of time. http://youtu.be/2fXqydQOz2o?t=14m17s I skipped most of this video because I know most everyone here is the tl;dr type, but just give it the 5 minutes left, it will not be wasted.
  20. They already do, I know because I've watched from the distance. I actually have a pretty sweet hiding hole, just waiting for one of those snipers to setup near me so I can jack their rifle and hide with it. Then when other snipers start playing? I just wait until they're nice and quiet so they know whodunit.
  21. PLEASE tell me you know where that quote is from...I would hate for it to go missed. What I mean is that morality/hero is subjective and really based on a case-by-case-by-person basis. There's nothing stopping bandits from exploiting the system. Now, the lone bandit I can definitely see being hurt by this, but the clans of bandits? Not really.
  22. Oh I've been getting it, just too bad apparently few others are.
  23. Except that the griefing 20 spawn camp, making the whole map irrelevant.
  24. "Now take Sir Francis Drake, the Spanish all despise him! But to the British, he's a hero, and they idolize him! It's how you look at buccaneers, that makes the bad or good. And I see us as members of a noble brotherhood." In other words, what's to stop bandits that kill from popping a buddy in the leg and healing them back to health for more karma?
  25. Killing unarmed players is one-handed gameplay, just like sniping. They need the other hand so they can tenderly reach down and stroke their....ego. The only way to curb grief based PvP is to get rid of the people that do it, which is a witch hunt in its own right. The downfall of the FPS is that it will only ever be used for mass killing as long as a gun is involved, because players don't actually WANT to feel/roleplay out a scenario of an average survivor. That's the major problem with DayZ, it's built for an awesome RP community, which was run off because of all the anti-non-PvPer obsession. Now all that's left are the meta-gamers and the poor saps that stick around to watch the game shrivel up, intellectually speaking. Also, people will argue that this is all PvP, it's not. PvP has a semblance of order to it, with rules and guidelines to keep the system from degrading. It's Player VERSUS Player, not just the "push button, receive murder point" of DayZ's griefing. If people want to wander into the airfields? That's a killbox, but really the same could be said with cities, but just camping up on a hill, zombie free, or hunting players on the beach for quick jollies? That's got to stop, our douchebaggery level is bad enough in the world's eyes.
