I'm surprised this hasn't turned into a "you carebear" flamefest yet. Basically, firefights in general should attract zombies. I don't see how a Makarov shot can still be heard and yet the Zeds do not get near it. The general aggro radius of zombies is far too low as far as guns are concerned. Now, I disagree that Bandits need to be nerfed because there's no REASON for them to be, given that all concepts of law and humanity have been thrown out the window because of a total collapse of society. What needs to be done though? Gunshots need to be heard from MUCH farther than they are now. If a player can hear them, a Zombie should hear them. That way, firing your gun would be almost suicide unless you had the ammo to back it up. This would make cities much less of a bandit haven, as the zombies would hear a CZ shot from inside the city and GO AFTER HIM.

Play the wrong note, get sniped by a bandit on a hill. Yeah, could work.

Safe Zone (No shooting/No Zombies)
Virfortis replied to Greasy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
We have safe zones. Rog, Zub, and other forts like them would be easy trading zones. All it takes are a few players enforcing it and you're good to go. -
I backed into a building and waited for the bandit that was tailing me to come in after me. He logged, unbeknownst to me, and logged back in behind me, shot me with one Makarov shot. When I respawned, a bandit was on the shoreline shooting people with Enfields.

This is a VERY large issue, and causes a lot of players grief. The game is very laggy/desynced right now because of server load, which is being worked on. For now, it's really bad. I've headshot players (just today) that then started running in circles and unloading mak mags while running/popping back and forth. I dodge and apparently I'm standing still. Oh but what's the excuse? "you butthurt bandit faggot" Yeaaaaah. I later killed 3 bandits that were running near Cherno, they all fought for another 10 seconds before dying of the bullet. I told them I shot them a while back but they raged more. I've been on both ends of this, so don't worry, it's major lag. Hopefully it'll be fixed. Could anyone that played Arma2 before confirm how the bullets work? I can imagine 1 second for a mile or so, but 10 second wait time plus teleporting?

Besides, adding women in the game would just cause 4chan level rape jokes to skyrocket. Sorry, the hardcore are often the most immature, with few (but acknowledgeable) exceptions. We've got enough "I skullfucked your family" as is, we don't need Cherno to turn into Goldshire because a few guys dress as female avatars. No offense, I respect women's rights, but it's sadly not the greatest of ideas :s

This sounds suspiciously like... Well I'm not going to just say it's a bad idea, let me explain why. In DayZ, you're never supposed to know what the other player is like or going to do. Each encounter is totally random and has no bearing. Soon the bandit system will be gone and we'll all have to be plain suspicious. Having hand-holding cards that serve as a "good guy/scumbag" tag would take away from one of the critical threads holding the game together: Total destruction of society. There's no reason for you to believe anyone, because people lie all the time. It's that thought that shows a players mentality, but you wouldn't know that, he's just a random guy that you've never met. He can even sit there and claim he's friendly, but then shoot you the second you turn around. Why? Because that's how this game works. This game(mod/anti-game whatever) is meant to be that way, and I'm sorry to say that your idea would not fit in this world. However, if you want a more co-operative experience, there's a great mod stickied in the general section for you to try.

I wish there was a way to turn it off personally, all the chat is distracting me.

Rule of the internet: No, you are not the only one. Next time, turn the lights on to avoid over-engrossment. The same thing happens with the game Amnesia, so it's understandable.

less likely to shoot female survivor?

Just hang onto this' date=' you'll need it around here. [img']http://chzvideogames.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/video-game-memes-really-guys.png The "hardcore" community (as laughable as that sounds) is the one most flooded with sexism/rape jokes. Most kids think it's funny. -
A view on this whole PvP fiasco
Virfortis replied to Cmdr Snipes's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually, the "you don't like mass murdering? CAREBEAR PUSSY YOU LIKE SHITTING RAINBOWS AND HUGGING TREES!" flaming is old, done and buried, and only an asshole would throw out the word "carebear" just so they can try to sound all "hardcore" Oh yeah, what's for the "hardcore" crowd? Call of Duty, so listen up. Faggotry like calling someone a carebear is exactly what ruined the truly "hardcore" image, now we have an awesome mod in the works and people want it hard as possible. Totally understandable, but some players want a more gamey feel ala co-op. Why? BECAUSE IT'S FUN TO THEM, NOT BECAUSE THEY'RE AN IMAGINARY TREE HUGGER. There is a co-op mod out there SPECIFICALLY for players that want a no-bandit experience. It's right on the General Discussion stickies. So instead of replying to people wanting co-op as a "carebear" we should call them what they really are: Players wanting to have fun on their term. Just copy-paste this whenever someone asks for a co-op, SP, or "easier" experience: There is a mod already released that contains much of what you want. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3619 I encourage you to try it, happy gaming! -
I once waited just outside of Elektro during a firefight. There were 2 survivors and 2 bandits duking it out. I announced on Side channel that I was the one that got all 4, rage and drama ensued.

Maybe instead of flashing red, we should just go to red? -
As someone who has tried to make a campfire, I can say that the bedroll would make me stop playing indefinitely. I have only been ever to make a campfire once, ONCE...in weeks of playing.

How to Zero your sniper and other goodies!
Virfortis replied to 8bitplaya's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So I went out with the editor and sniped for a while with the US sniper rifle since it only has zeroing, like the CZ. I setup in Zub and sniped on groups of enemies down in Vyshnoye. I did pretty well, so maybe soon I'll be a half way decent sniper XD -

There's a clear issue here that you're missing: Both of you are right. Bandits in DayZ do not kill just to be douchebags, but in forced PvP games in the past, they definitely are there for that sole reason. The question is why... DayZ was designed to be a mostly PvP game from the ground up. It was built on a PvP based engine and so it works. There are environmental hazards, but at the end of the day, the greatest threat is the player. There is no evil to fight against, there is simply you and survival. Players who become Bandits thrive on the greater risk BECAUSE they get a greater reward. Admit it, if it was more cost effective to hunt Zeds, you wouldn't have to worry as much. In other games (EVE for example) there is nothing gained from "banditry" other than infamy and some arbitrary points/accolades (I might be wrong here, but for the sake of argument, let my point through). The quickest way to gain resources is to mine. This is the same way in other games like Rappelz, WoW, Etc. There is a greater evil that must be brought down, and many players realize this. Yet, more destructive forces force players to endure grief and annoyance just for shits and giggles (camping Goldshire anyone?). DayZ does not conform to these styles, and is not a PvP with PvE style game. It's not even a GAME. It will always be mass, open, free for all survival. Anyone that wants more of a co-op experience need look no further than the general section in this forum, as there is a link to a very popular (and similar) co-op zombie survival mod. You're not any less of a person for preferring it, you just like to have fun WITH people, instead of AGAINST them.

Basically that, it's focusing on an object. When you focus, everything around you becomes blurry, and you can often get lost if you stare enough. This is simulated by the slight zoom. Of course, if you actually played the ArmA2 tutorials, you would know that, as it explains the zooming in detail.
