    Short answer: The Internet collective is stupid. The long (and more correct) answer: Hype. DayZ is overhyped as some big zombie survival game for everyone in the same vein that Minecraft was hyped as a giant sandbox for everyone. DayZ is a LOT like Minecraft, hear me out guys. Both had a surprise shortly into alpha/beta release in the form of mass players. Everyone flocked and hyped the game up, and then players started complaining about getting PvP killed/griefed etc. Now, Minecraft has it setup so that servers manage the player database, meaning you can go to full PvP/griefing allowed servers or not. When plugins and safety add-ons started rolling in, a lot of the griefer issues subsided. Minecraft was called a "carebear" game and most of the griefers left. DayZ on the other hand has everything working around a central server, meaning all players must operate under the same rules across all servers. PvP, naturally, overrides PvE, as we've seen with Minecraft that PvE only can get very boring (vanilla Minecraft gets dull within a month, DayZ would too if PvP didn't exist) so this is a fully open PvP game ripe for the griefing. Now everyone just wants their zombie survival without banditry, or NPC bandits, and for that there's a co-op mod. However, the popularity of ArmA2/DayZ is sudden, and many people miss the Chernarus Apocalypse mod sticky. It will take a VERY long time for the shockwave that is the internet to die down. Case in point: Who remembers MySpace? Didn't think so. Hype and playerbase will subside into something manageable in due time.

    Crashed Helis are there, but bugged. It's a known bug.

    I don't see why we can't kick players out of a server when they die. It would simulate losing the player completely because the servers fill up very quickly.

  6. A sandbox is just that, a sandbox. Everything else is left totally up to the player. There are no limitations, no help, it is simply what we make of it. That is true freedom, which is what everyone here is wanting. It is not in the spirit of DayZ and never will be. Do you know those MMOs with the NPCs and guards? Those are now up to you, the player, to create. YOU become the guard, the gunsmith, or the vendor.

Fortunately, that something has already been made for you to enjoy.

    Noticeably lower FPS on 1.6.0

    I had a high FPS drop when I started playing, but now it's fixed. What I did: Flushed cache (Lshift + KP- type flush) Set graphics preference to low Reset 3D resolutions to 100% restarted game. Since then, I've had no problems whatsoever. I was even able to set HDR back to very high.

    Simple idea: The higher their weapon tier, the greater their threat rating. Odds are, if they've got a military grade weapon they either killed someone for it, or have been inland and killed others to get there. Nothing mechanic about it really. This should just be a player tip.

  12. I think the female model has the same hitbox, and from a distance you can't REALLY tell who's who. Rocket went the practical route by making them just as well done as the male models. So yeah, there's females now, not a big deal.

    Disconnecting to avoid death

    To be honest? We need to take a cue from, of all places, an MMO. Dark Age of Camelot specifically. Type /quit (or whatever) to have your player start disconnecting. You're not immobile, but if you so much as move your timer is cancelled. Did you recently engage someone or get caught by zombies? (the distress thingy we have now) then it's 60 seconds for you. This kinda can't be an Abort option I wouldn't think, as Abort would seem kinda hard grained. Maybe the server can handle the timer and then kick players after 30 seconds of making the /quit command?

    How to lie with statistics: Count everyone, even if they're not playing. Whether these statistics do that or not, I don't know, but if we look at the number playing at any given time, I'm sure it will be a much closer ratio.

Rocket, I'd give you a standing ovation, but this is a forum and all...doing awesome work.

    Don't Let The Bandits Change You

    DayZ can only be truly experienced when everyone puts effort and feeling into their actions. In other words, it needs the exact opposite of the majority gamer, it needs to be solely for the niche. Sadly, it's being dominated by the majority as always. I say let the hype die down, let the CoD style Deathmatch players realize this game is boring to them and they'll walk off. It'll be a wave where we all get "this sucks, I'm gone" threads, but it's merely growing pains. Let us, as the real community, press on in these forums and lecture those around us that DayZ requires PLAYER input into content just as much as developer creation. DayZ is, for all intents and purposes, the Minecraft of the FPS genre. It shouldn't have been popular, nobody knows why it exploded, but it's so super hyped right now that there's people wanting 15 billion different things. Soon things will settle into nice, quiet groups with only the occasional "griefer" that will play long enough to get bored and move on.

It makes you sound like a A-hole with superiority complex. :D Normally I'm against the condescending attitude, but this time I have to admit it was totally justified. We ALL know this is Alpha, which is EXACTLY when we're supposed to be talking about stuff like this. Alphas are buggy because we're supposed to iron it out. We're removing the stuff that will cause problems on release. It's Alpha, report it and get back to testing.
  21. So, haven't been able to play without shooting on sight, would love to join some peeps so I could...ya know...actually talk to people instead of blow their brains out because they shoot me first. Do you accept players still in the learning phase?
