I'm gonna survive Day Z IRL...how about you?
Virfortis replied to -AATW- Gj's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not a good idea according to "World War Z". Lol No idea what that is' date=' and why would it not work? [/quote'] What're you gonna do when food and water runs out? Also, we need to think about nutrition, beans aren't a cure all. In fact, in an actual survival situation, canned beans would be pretty useless. But hey, Chef Boyardee is awesome no matter what. -

Click on the bag, click "Open Bag" to open it, and you will be able to not only take stuff directly out of the bag, but store stuff in your inventory into the bag. This is the only way to do it as it simulates you physically pulling the object from your bag and into your pocket for use.

Consider 1 makarov+1 bullet *grin* Back in the original Operation Flashpoint you could aim at and shoot yourself in the foot :P You can commit suicide in DayZ, simply walk up to an object and shoot it point blank, you are very likely to hit yourself.

Survivors are just bandits that have gotten off the coast.

Never Had This Kind of Emotional Reaction...

Saving this as the perfect juxtaposition between playing DayZ and abusing it. -
It's moonlit because the moon cycles just as IRL. It will go away soon enough. Oh noes, why does the moon come out once a month!!!? If they wanted sunlight, they would go outside like any self-respecting human being. Sadly, player hunters fear sunlight, afraid to face the world and live in their own pathetic existence because they aren't man enough to learn social skills like organized thought when working with others. Their mentality never goes beyond "boom boom headshot t-bag lols! player kill!" and the aforementioned "everything but killing is for carebears" If anything, this needs a commentator.

In reality, tour gamma and brightness would shift upwards because your eyes can see more, and in reality, HDR is set to at least very high. We just need some way to make it happen in-game...

This is the MOST antisocial game ever

Dude' date=' actually watch the video next time. I mean actually watch it, he goes into some serious detail unless you were already dismissing his argument. What emergent gameplay? WHAT play styles? There's only two playstyles right now that the game supports: Hiding in the woods Killing There is nothing new here. Survival on this level has been done for years, look at minecraft. What I'm working towards is a system that actively discourages (but does not arbitrarily prevent) mass murdering because of the obvious degradation it brings to the concept of DayZ. The whole feeling sense of dread and "will he kill me will he not" is gone, replaced by 100% certainty that yes, he will kill you unless you shoot first. No thought necessary, it's all there, black and white, clear as crystal. If you think, you lose. Just yesterday, my friends and I raided the tents from bandits. We scored because they had a UAZ and 2 ATVs. We hopped on and they came after us when they figured out what was up. I waited in the woods and watched them walk by me, and we ambushed them when they stopped. One of them DCed and the other 3 died. We lost one guy, who respawned near Cherno. Soon the same people came from the West of Cherno. We figure we hit them hard enough because obviously they respawned near there. They either glitched or hacked in M4 CCOs when they died on the other server, because they respawned and started killing everyone, zombie and otherwise, with silenced weapons. We were not giving up those ATVs, period. The second time they came up, we got them unconscious and they DCed again. I'm not a survivor, and I'm not a bandit, I'm an Adventurer. We raid from the Bandits and let the Survivors run along because they aren't worth it. We put thought into what actually is worth picking a fight and what isn't. Bandits? They don't think, they just want to add to that murder count in the debug monitor, and when it goes to shit they DC. That's not what DayZ is about, I don't care how much "freedom" you tote. People don't kill each other enmasse in the Matrix either, no point quoting it. Unless it was 4chan inside the matrix...which would look a lot like Karkand or Dustbowl. -
Simply put, just go ahead and make a PvE server without the HIVE, there is really no reason to NOT do this because it accomplishes a number of things: PvE players can all play PvE, get bored, leave. Banditry would require more skill because PvE players wouldn't be there to give them ego strokes. So yeah, rocket wouldn't need to send out HIVE updates because they wouldn't have them. There would be no saving, you simply get on and do whatever you want. This is already being done on a couple unofficial servers, and really I think making it an official system would shut the PvP debate once and for all. Don't like PvP? Go play on a PvE server, no judgement necessary, your progress just won't save or transfer. I mean really, it's just DayZ Armory mode, rocket shouldn't have to do anything.

Now hang on, the dude has a valid idea here. Clicking Abort would cause a 20 second hourglass and, after that, the server kicks you. The hourglass dissapears if you move with WASD, or shoot.

Traps to be added in a later patch - thoughts?
Virfortis replied to S1ippery Jim's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can see this being good and bad, but mostly bad. Yeah traps are an awesome thing to have, nice for base defense, etc. We all get that. But let's face it, it will mainly be used to trap a door so someone can DC and ghost out of the NW airfield. -
Essentially, create a PvE only system run by its own HIVE, so they can't take progress into PvP servers. This is partially what minecraft did and it quelled the griefer issue significantly, while also allowing players run full no-rules PvP. As long as it doesn't connect to the main HIVE, I see no problem with it. At the end of the day, it's the truest freedom of all: The freedom to play your way or play the DayZ way. And hey, like I said, it's no strain on rocket if PvE only players find it boring, then he gets to throw as many "I told your so"'s as possible.

20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection

YES Humans are not perfect machines, personality and body language, plus paranoia, would help with identifying actual threats. -
Disconnecting - 1.7.1 - Discussion
Virfortis replied to tockeR's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
30 seconds and you need to type /quit and DO NOT MOVE before the server kicks you out, otherwise you stay in the server. And yes, /qq to be instantly kicked to desktop. -
20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
Virfortis replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES In favor of less ammo, no gun may be an extreme, zombie defense needed. Prefer this to mass ammo though. -

Safe lockers needed! (bank vaults)
Virfortis replied to jani.ehro@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In reality, there are padlocks with keys. Zombies near a house would have a what...NVG chance of dropping a key, that key would go to a 5-15 space storage safe inside that house. The safe COULD be picked up if you had room, and moved elsewhere. You're probably seeing where I'm going with this: If you die, and your friend doesn't take the key, your safe is stuck forever. Or at least until the key officially "despawns" from the world, no point having the safe then. -
Well' date=' i hope this will be enough. Let those quitters taste it! [/quote'] Admittedly, I was KIND OF hoping for a system where you didn't lose control of your character. Games like Dark Age of Camelot are a shining example of stopping the DC issue, by having the command be a /quit instead of just an Exit button. The server then waits 30 seconds where, if you don't move, it kicks you out.

There's a separate shortcut for launching the beta patch of the game in the BIS folder, if I recall correctly.

Character wipe for new patch?
Virfortis replied to pogoman979's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We're in Alpha, as soon as at least the duping and item cycling are fixed, I would love it if we had a total purging of the system. You're never really going to stop hackers, but since it's Alpha we could do with it.
