    What is a Carebear?

The carebear slur is a derogatory generalization used by the mainstream self-imposed hardcore elitists. I say self-imposed because one cannot be a hardcore gamer and NOT appreciate the classics. To them, it's all about the brown and grey realism, an obsession over "convenient" realism, and killing people while they rage and scream about launching sexual innuendos over a voice chat. It can best be embodied in this statement: If you think that there's something better in life than what Conan the Barbarian said, you're a carebear. They are what hurts the FPS genre and the driving force behind games being rehased every year with the same graphics, same gameplay, but updated "perks" where, in any other genre, that's known as a patch note. NOW: The term has gotten fairly mainstream since DayZ, and it's understandable that people would abuse it out of context, but that's where it started. If you have feelings, morals, rules, or anything that keeps you from abusing the whole concept of "it's a game" and, by that I mean not giving a shit about anything and harassing people "for teh lulz" then you're a carebear. So what do we need to do?: I cut to the quick, but the rest is worth watching eventually.
  2. Clearly' date=' my post ABOUT the DCing was missed, [/quote'] I didn't mean "cry" as an insult there, I've cried about d/c abuse as well. Maybe "complain" is a better term there. I was just explaining to Kolchak that d/c abuse is an issue for everyone, not just bandits trying to get a kill. In fact a LOT of survivors don't d/c. Usually it's organized groups that abuse it. Simply put, it's abused a lot more by bandits because survivors have less to lose. Survivors survive, not focus on killstreaks. I have yet to personally run with an actual bandit that put in thought and feeling because to do so instantly makes you a carebear in their eyes. Instead, I hear "just DC dude, it breaks aggro" No, I run as an adventurer. If I see someone, I'm not about to cause a scene unless it's necessary. You won't see me because I'm too busy lining my sights on your head just in case. Bandits camping the roof of the hospital with a CZ? Not for long! I then send the rest of the team to pickup meds and we high-tail is out of here. It's a clean, simple operation that throwing a flare in Cherno for kill lulz will never match. I just wish the former story was the more prevalent. I'm not the best most awesome player ever! But I know how to survive. I've gotten my share of kills, but it was always because they were a threat, never because they were simply there.
  3. I've seen people ferrying randoms around with buses. I've seen people trying to create safe cities to trade at or visit. Neither of these two people even had a clan afaik (makes it 10x harder to do). Why don't you make a friendly clan? Or help with a project like this? Or make one? Why don't you make a list of friendlies and coordinate pickup games. Maybe set an overarching goal a la CHKilroy's vids' date=' find 20+ friendlies, and go at it. (Sure there'll still be bandits, but as you've said, so their would be in a "real" environment). Maybe create some roleplay ruleset; weed out trolls that just joined the group so they'd know which server/time you were playing to follow/kill you, etc. It's very telling that the people complaining have done NONE of the above; just run into the open yelling "FRIENDLY???" and then dying. Edit: case in point rocket's t-shirt really does say it all. "ANYONE IN CHERNO???" He's mocking you idiots. Because I do. You just don't see it because you're too busy on here looking for more ways to give cheap shots an advantage. I'm running with a smaller group, we have Berenzino under a basic lockdown. Players that do not identify themselves are shot, and they are warned before they are shot. That was, of course, until side chat was removed. Now all we have is a short-range direct chat that players ignore. We can't put up signs, have any rules, or do anything OTHER than shoot. That's the core problem right there: DayZ is nothing but shooting. Whether at a zombie, player, or at random, the ONLY social interaction that CAN be had is shooting. Organizing safe zones, unlike reality, requires an inhumane amount of time and effort that takes away from a prime directive, much more than anyone with reasonable sense and the humanity to do so could manage. If someone was REALLY setting up a safe zone, that would be what mattered the most, and he wouldn't have to stop what he was doing and dissapear because his son wants to go play ball. It's much easier to ghost into NW airfield and shoot people for lulz, and that's what's happening: Those with the moral standards are too busy taking care of their own real lives, while those without lives or moral standards do what they want all day.

safehouse agreement, honor and good habits

Yes, the MLK bit was cheesy, because apparently people think I have a stick up my ass all the time. This proves otherwise. Sadly, I will be returning to college full time this fall, so there's no way I can begin to start up or even get involved in a system like this.
  5. Clearly, my post ABOUT the DCing was missed, as it served a better purpose that requires a line of thought...I'm sorry that reading comprehension was low on your priorities list, but there is very little I can do about that. Bandits complain any time their ability to grief (not hunt, grief) other players is hampered, but have no problem watching the game turn into Battlefield: Zombies because they do not grasp the core concept of DayZ: Minimum Requirements: Balls. How can you say you have balls when you're sitting on a hill and popping survivors to make a score count go up for lulz? Or better yet: How can you even call yourself a man when you're afraid to feel and experience a game? Tell me and show me how that's any different from pressing "quick play" and watching the next room of de_dust fill up.
  6. Bandit skin removal did not change how DayZ is played. It's a combination of a lack of end-game, and an increase in the "typical" gamer brought on by hype. These gamers are indoctrinated with the thought that having a gun means you're supposed to kill everyone. They don't play a game because it's deep, and they skip the entire point of it. They don't think while playing because they have been brainwashed with rails, arenas, and crazed macho pandering hyperbole that stressed anything other than picking up a gun and killing everyone to be "gaaayyy." The only way to fix this is for the community to band together and re-educate players, but to first do so they must fundamentally alter themselves. This means getting rid of the carebear/elitist argument and enforcing ENJOYMENT of DayZ versus WINNING at DayZ. To top it off, the debug monitor does not help. The debug monitor shows kills, what do you think players want to see go up? So essentially, to fix the issue: Debug monitor has to go Community has to man up Hype has to die down significantly OPTIONAL: Make ammo extremely rare, with one mag per weapon drop. Unfortunately, community changing is all about YOU. It will involve turning the ire away from people you don't nessecarily agree with, and towards those that undermine the critical thinking and desire to "feel" in a game that DayZ was designed for.
  7. “Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it.” ― Thomas Paine If DayZ is to remain free for players to experience, we must learn to support it with the respect it deserves. Rocket is trying to make DayZ a game where people think, feel, and experience MUCH more than your common, run of the mill, mind-numbing shooting gallery. We must learn to support DayZ by experiencing it, lest we be forced by rails to call it "just a game" like those who would see it undone. Rocket often talks about important media to him, but people that do not care to support it would look at these movies and books and scoff because they fail to understand them. Do they really deserve our support?
  8. YES And while we're at it, reset everything. This is when we need a full HIVE wipe.

    Holster pistol

Press G, instant pistol up, you CAN walk around with the gear menu up. It's not super effective, but it works until a better fix is in place.

    Coupe of Suggestions

We should never know. The Debug console as a whole needs to go. There should be no artificial counter of any kind, just this: Day 5
  11. Ladies, form a single, orderly line please.

safehouse agreement, honor and good habits

I picture a world in which Castle Zub/Rog is a safe area, where players have to enter and have their weapons removed by the people controlling it. I have a dream, where those weapons are recorded down and the people who come and go will have their weapons returned to them when they leave. I envision men guarding this tent and shooting anyone that goes near it without proper ID. I see people coming and chatting, getting bandaged up and bringing supplies to help those in need. I see all of it, right down to the 24/7 guard being run by the community. I have a dream, but no men to make it so. Alas, real life must come first.

Can we stop the CoD/BF3 name calling?

It's a more accurate description for random deathmatching, and it fits more than carebear, so no it's not going away. When "carebear" goes, I'll consider pushing to have "CoD kiddie" go next, but it's best to tackle the biggest problems first.

    Combat Quitting Bandits?

If you like it, help me spread the word! I'm generally ignored by the populace because I believe DayZ is played with the understanding that you have to FEEL while playing, or you're just playing any other FPS. This controversial idea (you know, having an experience vs. having a chat room) makes me a pretty hated person on the forums. I'm going to need support because I WILL get whaled on by the ragers, insisting I'm a carebear and moaning about "it's just a game"
  15. Working...good? working GOOD?!?! ....working WELL!! AGH! WORKING WELL!!! ARRRGHGHGHHHH!!! *face into wall* ....sorry...I'm okay now....I think...the pills help. ^^ Sadly, if your PC is as old as I think it is, you will want to work from scratch. It may not be, but XP and no 1.75gb of RAM is an indicator that it's old by PC standards. I know you can't afford it, but you're sort of stuck between a rock and a hard place there. You can slowly get the components, but you need a lot...like...a LOT of work done. But like others have said: DayZ is less about RAM and more about having a solid CPU and GPU. My CPU isn't exactly old and it's having a hard time keeping up.

    Combat Quitting Bandits?

I still like my idea: The only way to leave the server and have your character dissapear is to type /quit and have a 20 second hourglass appear. If you did not move or shoot during those 20 seconds, the server kicks you out. Alt-F4 will have 30 seconds (or however long it takes to confirm no packets transferring, +20 seconds) Also, type /QQ to have the game close to desktop.

    Opinion on server hoppers? (JUSTICE)

Wait wait, let me try again: Well you could say (•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) You did a bang up job. (don't hurt me, I'm sleepy XD)
  18. Juuuuust sit right back and you'll hear a tale A tale of a faithful trip That started on this Russian port Aboard this awesome ship The mate was a veteran sharpshooter The skipper loved survival They loaded up and hauled ass out of Berenzino With a plan to survive The boat sailed out to open sea, the safest place there was If not for the planning of our fearless crew humanity would be lost humanity would be lost They pulled into a lagoon on an uncharted tropic isle As it turns out, they missed the news The natives were immune They tried to run, but became stew Back on the beach, just like you! I'm gonna go ahead and apologize in advance because I'm tired, and I'll probably wake up in the morning and regret this as I'm sure it makes little sense XD

    friendly servers?

Unfortunately, your only choice is to team up outside of game like every other FPS. BUT! You can join up with other anti-bandit groups that hunt them down and wipe them out. Plenty of PvP, but with a cause.

    THE FLOOD IS COMMING

Let's be honest here: How many console fanboys are likely to have the gaming PC required to even begin to run DayZ? Not that much, factoring that if they have both, the odds of them being a "console kiddie" reduce dramatically.

    Opinion on server hoppers? (JUSTICE)

Okay okay, let me rephrase: Scotties Wins! Bombality!
  22. Not a good idea according to "World War Z". Lol No idea what that is' date=' and why would it not work? [/quote'] What're you gonna do when food and water runs out? Also, we need to think about nutrition, beans aren't a cure all. In fact, in an actual survival situation, canned beans would be pretty useless. But hey, Chef Boyardee is awesome no matter what. Food and water can't run out - convert sea water to fresh water with electricity, and grow crops with hydroponics; no soil required. Gather seeds from the previous generation grown. Considering the amount of crops you would need, factoring the growing rate the the fact that you still need protein (which beans will only get you so far) I don't think it would be enough. What about things like vitamin C? I'm just making sure we get our bases covered because let's be honest, if we plan together now we're less likely to shoot each other later. =P
