is dayz becoming over saturated in the media?
Virfortis replied to thoxon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ got way too popular way too quick. I preferred it when the sensible people were the gist of the forums, and someone could come up with an idea and work with the community until it was ironed out into something that could work. -
The DC'ing is getting fucktarded.
Virfortis replied to WildGunsTomcat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Typical Bandit: Loves to camp noobs DCs when shit hits the fan I said it before: Until rocket takes a stand, DCing is just the first in a long line of exploits under the guise of "it's a game." I've had entire groups DC even though I was outnumbered. I've had people DC in-between AS50 shots from the hills in Elektro, and you know what? That's exactly the people we are catering to. It will be a constant, exploitable issue until the community changes its tune and actually starts acting like they care about this mod, not just their own gear. If it's not DCing, it will be barricades, or server hopping, but it won't stop until we treat DayZ better. -

Maybe when the PS4 hits it would be possible to put a low resolution port out there, but the ultimate problem is that ArmA3/DayZ have waaayyyyy too many controls behind the scenes to make it plausible right now. Consoles are a snapshot in the technology world, literally. Now, I can wholly understand if you're shaky on building a PC yourself, bu believe me when I say the actual BUILDING it isn't much more than picking a good mid-size tower, researching compatable components, and plugging it all into the tower. If you do all that quickly, you can return components that don't work (most do, but there's always that 1/1000 lemon) and any problems you have are just a click on the internet away. Simply put, ArmA does not work because, to be honest? ArmA is a PC game. It was built and designed for the PC and that's where it will stay. I hate to sound fanboyish, but look at how many games these days are tossed into the system of "make it for consoles and EZPort it to PC" so that PC gamers end up with a buggy, unoptimized, boiled down version of what they have? Yes, I'm still very sore about Skyrim. Seriously, go look at the difference between console TF2 and PC TF2. Minecraft is on the Xbox, so we lost that one, but the PC deserves exclusives just like Sony and Microsoft. -
Yes, I wonder how many other people, the silent majority, download DayZ and expect something more than dying just off the coast. Yet I also have to point out one thing: Yes this is Alpha, but rocket could have done much better on the PR when the popularity hit. He could have told people that yes, this is a big Alpha which means it is nothing like it will be on release. HOWEVER: Over time I have looked at rocket's posts and seen that this is disturbingly what the final product will be like. There will be no mass increase in zombie difficulty, nor will there be a damper put on deathmatching because this is what rocket wants. I sometimes wonder if he plays his own game, and if so how he can continue to advertise it as a survival mod instead of a persistent open PvP deathmatch world. Which, and I want to say here, is fine if you want to make. I think that would be a really good idea. I wouldn't play it, sure, but it sounds like it would be fun. Just don't call it a survival game when survival is the furthest thing from everyone's mind. See, I read that there is survival involved, and that it's a hardcore game requiring guts, so I figure the survival is difficult too. It's all just a matter of being honest, because I don't want to push for DayZ to have harder survival when that's not the goal, and if it's not I don't mind. I'll just go back to Killing Floor or whatever appeals to me.

The community has already proven time and time again that this is not a Zombie Survival game. In its current form, it's a zombie themed Free-For-All. Survival is infinitely easy and zombies pose absolutely no threat, they are merely a catalyst towards you giving away your position, and you can easily DC the moment you have a 5 second break. There's not even a SANDBOX because all you do is shoot each other. Sandbox implies more than one inevitable outcome. DayZ is NOT about survival, it's about wracking up noob kills like every other FPS. The game itself backs me up on this, and the instant nuke on sight mentality is just icing on the cake. The game revolves around bandits sitting on the hill in the main towns or airfields and killing people with Freudian sized guns and getting a combat high while they call it "just a game" like, again, IO Battlefield. This game is not balls out hard, it's not even remotely difficult, you just kill people or die and respawn, NOTHING is lost. The people with balls (which is a minimum requirement) are fenced in to give cowards precedence. If I wanted this kind of gameplay, I would have downloaded ACE because then I don't have to deal with camping on the coast and can actually do something besides snipe on a hill or be sniped. There's no feeling, no mentality in the game, and it all boils down to who can game the system the most. -
THE Night is TOO DAMN DARK Thread. Others will be deleted etc.
Virfortis replied to Slamz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As I said before, "use flares" is a pathetic excuse. Flare light does not travel more than 10-15 meters since the recent patch, and you need them or else you may as well turn your monitor off. So let's review: Nighttime is made blackout for NVGs, or for people to use flares, which is nothing but a bandit horn. Either way, that whole "not taking PvP sides" statement is quickly falling apart. If rocket doesn't put some kind of fix in, he's clearly favoring PvP "noob hunting" gameplay. Of course, I don't think he can because of how ArmA2 itself works, so he's stuck between a rock and a hard place. The night is just one of the many examples where there is no actual freedom in DayZ, because nighttime can give you maybe 30 minutes of playability IF you use all your flares. Even then, you're only a moving target for bandits. If night isn't fixed, I see a lot of servers slipping in daytime only mods behind the scenes. It may require they run their own HIVE, but I'm sure they would do it to get a decent nighttime. The artificial darkness caters only to NVG users. -

I know. I've said this repeately from the start. And, it's not just the nighttime that suffers with these new tonal changes. Daytime in A2 is now also looking worse than ever. And by worse, I mean increasingly unrealistic. Yeah dude, I ain't trying to rail on you or say you shouldn't have done it, just hate things have gotten this way. :-/ -

My stories end in a few ways: DC, I die, and FML. The most recent is an FML. I put multiple Mak rounds into a guys head, only to have him sync back through the wall and spray me to death. I respawn on the beach in Cherno, and there's a guy popping heads with an AS50. Before that, I was a sniper covering a small group in Berenzino. Our goal was the hospital, and there were people PvPing on the roof. I line up and hit the sniper dead on, but he and his 2 buddies DC before I can kill them. My team raids the hospital while I keep tabs. They log back in and I pop 2 out of 3 of them, they DC AGAIN (I had never used a DMR before, so no I didn't get headshots). On our way out we apparently found their bandit camp, and we looted it after filling their car with stuff and driving off. They came to the tents and followed the car. I lined up and nailed one, dead. The other came up and shot at me but was exhausted, I shot him down but not dead. The third DCed. The other 2 followed shortly, but at least I killed them. About a half hour later, they come back onto our server loaded with M4A3 CCO SD for 2 and a DMR for the third. They shot their way from Elektro to Berenzino before setting up and killing everything that moves. We setup and rush in on them, bringing them down. From what we figured, they were ghosting onto another server to bandage up and move each try, then the last time they used one of their tents on they server to load up and come after us. On that time, my team was so busy screaming "OMG WHO SHOT?!" to notice I was trying to clear the comms, I died. Needless to say, it's been pretty bad. For a number of reasons, I'm not meaning for this to sound as a complaint, but obviously the question was asked and answered. -

I agree too, but they're currently what the game caters to. I say currently because I really, REALLY hope that gets fixed. I want to be a bandit hunter too, but there's nothing for it because nighttime is just blind-mode, actually communicating with players is extremely difficult (direct is a poor system, the actual voice doesn't travel at all) and the groups I join with either want to hunt shore-bies in Cherno, or setup some RoE where they get shot before they return fire. Both groups are loud, annoying, and most of them are totally for common exploits like DCing, duping, etc. Ever tried clearing comms with 6 people chatting about nothing relevant? I died before they hushed. It makes me want to stand up and say "where the Hell have GAMERS gone?!" There's an extreme juxtaposition where players looking for more put their hands up, log out, and wait for more content. When they express this issue? Those that claim to have fun just say to throw flares in cherno and pick off people. When the only way to have lasting fun is to mindlessly PvP, is it really that different a game? DayZ should not be played to win, it should be played to experience. To do otherwise devalues the basic freedoms we were given. We were given true freedom, but the freedom comes with a cost: It must be experienced to feel free. That's what I feel anyways, but I think history backs me up because look at Amnesia. When players stopped gaming the system by turning gamma all the way up and started experiencing it, the whole point of the game clicked and it became a HUGE hit. I'm hoping rocket fixes this, a lot, but it seems clear to me that the majority of players cannot operate without rails, or they just go off and do what they do in every other game. :-/ I've recommended things from mini-LED lights to a tension system that worked like insanity. But of course, we can't mess with the "bandit" way of life now can we? :dodgy: I don't believe in forcing others to play a style any more than you do, but it seems to me that the only reason the general populace whined about rails is because they didn't want to see them, not about trying to break out. I speak only from my experience, which has been very poor, so I may be completely wrong, but I don't see DayZ, not the DayZ that became popular.

Crimson, let me share a story. I worked with a group of survivors and we saw bandits on the hospital roof, 3 of them sniping in Berenzino. I shoot and hit one, all three disconnect. We raid the hospital and the tents they were using, they came after us. I managed to kill one, my friend another, and they DCed before they dropped so their bodies weren't there for us to loot. They come back 20 minutes later, fully kitted out with camo and M4A3's. We still stopped them, they raged off and called us hackers before quitting. What I'm saying is this: Actual Bandits are rare, most are just cowards trying to justify exploits. I can respect a man that kills to survive, that's part of DayZ, but I can't abide a man that sprays you down and DCs to avoid zombies, comes back, then loots your body, says "thanks for the gun fag" and DCs again.

banned from seattle 22 for swearing once
Virfortis replied to mentok's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I applaud whichever admin kicked you. I think those in power should be able to administer a little lesson in politeness. Being polite and showing respect is not "political correctness," it's simply common sense. As many players love to point out: DayZ is not reality. Servers are a public place, and the admin owned the server so you better believe he has the right to say what is disruptive language and what isn't. If this starts becoming the norm, MAYBE we'll see a change in maturity. Now, if he had thrown you out for killing someone, sure, I would say it's wrong. However, you acted like a little brat and got treated as one, don't expect any sympathy. I think I'm going to go play on Seattle 22 now. -
Tried the No Gun and Limit Gear start option
Virfortis replied to logan23's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
One little thing I've noticed is that DayZ is a lot like minecraft in that if you're not ready for nightfall, it will kill you unless you dig a hole and hide. So basically, daytime is for preparing. -

Does this game really promote cooperation?
Virfortis replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ will be designed to cater to group play, rocket has clearly stated this multiple times. Unfortunately, the general mainstream community finds cooperating as a "for carebears" thing, so it will be interesting to see what happens when he implements some grouping mechanics. -
I get bored by all these "reality checks"
Virfortis replied to The Toolman (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ isn't meant to be 100% realistic, that's what the real world is for, but it IS meant to allow for immersion. When the immersion begins to settle into players, they get all feely and begin acting with their gut instead of the binary system we've established in games prior. I feel like DayZ should open up with a disclaimer: "DayZ should not be played to win. Instead, focus on immersing yourself in the game’s world and story. The world of DayZ is a dangerous place and you are vulnerable. Use your wits. Fight, hide, or even run if necessary.” If that sounds familiar, it should. DayZ has the potential to be as gripping as Amnesia, but only if you don't go into it with the mentality of "yeah let's pwn noobs today!" Try talking about turning the brightness and gamma up in an Amnesia forum, tell them it's just a game and not scary, see what the reaction is. -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
Virfortis replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you disconnect while being shot at .... that is in the games mechanics If you duplicate tents while making a tent ... that is in the games mechanics If you server swap to loot barraks and kill players from behind .... that is in the games mechanics If you disconnect in a fire fight to swap servers and move then reconnect behind your enemy .... that is in the games mechanics If you log out to lobby then back in to rearm you SD gun .... that is in the games mechanics If you place a base/vehicle of the map boundaries .... that is in the games mechanics Just because .... that is in the games mechanics Does not make it right... Someone get this man a medal. That is all. -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
Virfortis replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Welcome to society, where people have opinions that might be different. If the map had the same system like Minecraft, where it's much bigger than the map one makes, I would call it uncharted territory, give out stories of golden stashes of M101's, etc. However, since there is a very clear difference between the map and past the map (if I understand right/what I've been told: rendering stops) then it's definitely an exploit. It's not much different than DCing from Zeds and it has very similar justifications: It's gaming the system, it's doing what's outside the norm, and it's a game so it's supposed to be exploited, no matter the immersion breaking. -
Here's my alternative: Well, it looks like (•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) Hammer down. See, now I don't want to hear anymore of this "Virfortis can't have fun!" mess.

I felt a great disturbance in Chernarus, as if thousands of hackers laughed out in lulz, and were suddenly silenced. I feel something gleefully wonderful has happened.

You damn well bet I am. Because at the end of the day I can sit here and say that I'm playing as a gamer, someone who games to play with others. And if/when DayZ caves in to the "hardcore" and becomes nothing more than a combination chat room/shooting gallery for pre-made clans, I can sit here and say I didn't stand by and watch it happen.
