What the game doesn't scare off, the community definitely will.
-
We have health potions in the form of food, so rapidly regenerating blood (10 per minute, 600 per hour) isn't that far of a stretch.
-
Going to throw some other ideas out here: Get rid of kills on the debug monitor, and get rid of the leaderboards. Those are not doing DayZ any favors, and just encourage this "omg PK PK AAAAHHH!!!" attitude most survivors have.

How this has not devolved is beyond me, maybe the community is turning around. Basically, feeling needs to be added to DayZ, but adding an arbitrary system of kill or not is difficult. We've already seen what happens with arbitrary systems, I have a heartbeat right now because survivors shoot at me on sight (and since they only have a pistol, fail miserably) and the same happened with bandit skins.

Why is everyone I meet an ***hole?

Why is it that people immediately brand you a carebear if you aren't gaming the system and farming kills? -

pretty much :D Honestly? I missed out on the arcade era, but it sounds like it was an amazing time. Of course, arcades could technically happen today, with local multiplayer or heck, even setting up servers for gamers to play on together, in a cybercafe. Unfortunately, that wouldn't take off here, I live in the middle of nowhere and nobody here would justify it. Sadly, if I want to socialize and interact with people these days, it means leaving my gaming behind. Sure I don't mind talking with my golfing group at college about stuff, but they have NO interest in getting a Champions Online alert going, or heck even playing something like CoD on the console. The inclusion of online multiplayer in gaming brought about the anonymity that is what causes the problems we have today. With all new technology, problems arise, but gamers failed by not dealing with it and being indifferent to it when it started, and now Doug Douchebag and Restraining Order Rick are the mainstream audience that the "hardcore" community has as their face. Is there no wonder these problems have gotten out of hand and, rather than hope the community deals with it, game publishers have pushed it under the rug and focused on more casual games? Compare Wii-Sports to Call of Duty, guess which one gets the most bad publicity because of its vocal community? -

no Side chat = Community Growth will be damaged
Virfortis replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
With the latest beta patch, I'm pretty sure side chat and all are gone. I'm also fairly sure it's client side, as people that didn't have the beta patch could use side chat, but those with it couldn't. -

Press the period key to switch to Direct Communication, press the CAPSLOCK key near players and try talking to them. Make sure you're behind cover or else they'll shoot out of fear. Voila, DayZ is no longer a singleplayer game. Side chat only helped noob bandits setup on a hill easier. -
Most ridiculous death plus aftermath
Virfortis replied to tom.dullnig@gmx.net's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pfft, you tried to go get wood? Take it like a man and punch that tree! punch it!! -
Mainly, the tension/shivers idea is an anti-camping method. Players would slowly "lose it" from being near almost certain death (just shakes like if they needed painkiller, buildings would give enough distance from zombies to make it go back down, cigarettes would make it faster) while campers in the woods would need some source of heat to keep from shaking from the cold. This is NOT a blood loss idea. Also, my character has never panicked, so I don't know what that entails. Kicking is, as I said, a pretty meh idea because that would suck for clans, but I threw it out there to see if it might be a good alternative to the respawn issue we have now, with loads of tents making dying a non-issue for established players. The eyepatch? Come on, that would be FUN! (and besides, people say I can't have fun, this suggestion alone proves them wrong). The headlamps could be common in quarries, but drop sometimes in markets and homes, and even military camps (especially military camps) The canteens and food are back to normal, but my suggestion is to make food and cans about half-way between now and when they were bugged. I say this because it's easy to just grab some stuff and go. I experienced being starving and not having any food, searching desperately for it while my food and water went red. It wasn't until I found a pepsi and ONE can of beans that I knew I would be okay...and I was elated to have found it. Players aren't grateful for food and water (though water is pretty easy given all the lakes) and I think that's one of the main things about survival.

Leaderboard Hacker!
Virfortis replied to bjhermann@internode.on.net's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Honestly, I think Leaderboards need to go. It only serves to reinforce the "kill everyone to be on top" mentality that happens a lot. The same goes with marked kills on the debug monitor, those aren't doing DayZ any favors. -
Okay I was KIND OF hoping this would be read by someone with some feedback to give...

New Stealth System would be totally fine IF
Virfortis replied to Perrywinkle's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Adding "impassable barriers aiding server hopping" on the list of things that need immediate fixing, coupled with "DCing to prevent dying" and "purging jerks from the forums." This is right up there with NVGs really, one side gaining a clear advantage with no repercussions. -
Why is everyone I meet an ***hole?

Way to prove DayZ shares a mature, respectable community there buddy. Are we competing with other forums for "biggest dick" community or is it just a personal vendetta? -
Why is everyone I meet an ***hole?
Virfortis replied to Deacoon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ caters to the straight up dick in everyone. Only real men resist it and act like decent human beings, but people assume personality will go out the window in an apocalypse. The truth is, DayZ suffers from people thinking it's some last bastion of hope for griefing and trolling, which is total bollocks. Also, the people go relatively unchecked unless they directly attack rocket, so there's this general "everyone can be a douchebag" air not only in the game but on the forums. So yes, THIS is the face of the "hardcore" community, understand why they were ignored for so long? Casuals may have liked it easier, but at least they knew how to behave in a public forum. It's up to the legit gamers to take back the community and show that we can play and last in the hardcore world of DayZ without being exploiting and trolling cowards. -
Changes to "SNEAK" ??
Virfortis replied to t.monte87@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Then simply make running a death sentence in town. Maybe fix the walking into a house error? This is a VERY old argument on the splinter cell forums, about how it's very easy to run and just knock everyone out unless the game forces you to stay stealthy. Then they remove the restrictions and you get Conviction, THAT ticked off the stealth fans a lot. -
I would, sure, if this was a private server or just a few guys having fun, but it's not. It's griefing scattered with glitter to look like fun. Here again, I'm sure it's funny in any other setting, but when we're trying to fight abuse like this? It's not funny in the least. This only further reinforces the stereotype that bandits ruin DayZ, not because they are bandits, but because they just farm kills like every other FPS.
-
yeah sorry, I don't find treating DayZ like a generic FPS with melee funny. That's called dumbing down a masterpiece. This is LITERALLY on par with calling Dr. Who "just another sci-fi show" It would be funny in a game that's meant for this level of stupidity, but DayZ is not one of them.

Changes to "SNEAK" ??
Virfortis replied to t.monte87@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sneaking is just fine if you learn to pick and choose. I've had no issues sneaking around cities, but those that shot at me ended up zombie bait. This doesn't fix the "sniper on the hill" part though, c'mon rocket, where's the scattered zeds? =/ -
It'd probably work if the zombies were cats. ... zombie cats We...are all...screwed... But honestly' date=' where would we find a laser pointer? The batteries on most common ones run out pretty quick and those things are a pain to find even in reality. [/quote'] what do you mean i can go to a random convenience store and find one easy But I can't, seriously! I have to order mine online because not even the Radio Shacks around here carry the ones I need! >.<
