  1. And while we're at it, you should play with your monitor off, just to prove how awesome you are, since you're so high and mighty.
  2. Well, when you see NwO it's pretty much a given lol. Still, not knowing beforehand, taking 5-1, that's real Banditry awesomeness.
  3. Well, I have to deduct points because it was NwO, so there wasn't as much danger as you're portraying. However, you did start with an Enfield, which is ballsy, and I'm sure you actually looted them. So I tip my hat. That was some nice planning, even if it was Duck Hunt.
  4. You want to see good nighttime? Try this. A slight shade under this. You can tell road from tree, you have a flashlight to clearly see what's in front of you, but if someone runs by you CANNOT tell unless you're paying close attention. This is real nighttime, pure and simple. Having to light flares and make yourself an easy target is stupid. To even take the "hardcore" logic, they say that to survive you simply don't become a target. Move where you have the advantage, and only attack when you have a clear shot. That's EXACTLY why people don't play at night. So take heart elitists, players are learning.
  5. Difficult is when a bandit group goes against a survivor group. Impossible is when they attack at night, with NVGs survivors cannot just find, and just server hop back to "home base" to get re-equipped and hop back in within 10 minutes, IF they don't DC first. Also, there's a lot more "shut up about wanting rainbows" threads, but I have yet to actually SEE anyone honestly suggesting a complete shut down of PvP, and even more so, I've never heard someone legitimately OR sarcastically suggest survivors fart rainbows all day. In other words, Legacy, I have to respectfully say that the "casuals" this community seems to hate do not, nor ever did, exist. They were quickly told (and far from respectfully, I might add) that DayZ is not meant for a mainstream audience. The vile, outright shameful harassment they suffered JUST because they had a differing opinion is exactly the kind of thing that shows the dark secrets behind the "hardcore/anti-carebear" mentality. I submit to this thread that those people are NOT worth catering to, yet the actual game practically gives them a free pass to do whatever they want. It is not balance that is asked for, it is simply common sense. A common sense, that players cannot fight by the rules to beat these people, that requires intervention. A survivor, even a well organized survivor group, cannot fight against a PvP only group simply because the PvP only group does not worry about getting killed. They feel no weight behind their actions, and the ONLY way to truly stop them is to do the same underhanded things that makes them the aforementioned shameless group. The game may be unfair, yes, but there is a very clear difference between unfair and undeniable favoritism. These PvP elitists do not put weight into their actions and do not truly "feel" DayZ. How can, then, those that do care, do experience, and do feel weight, fight against those that don't? They can't, simply because the game will not let them. Life has the restriction of one life to ensure the weight of actions are considered, yet a game doesn't. It becomes a meaningless gamble to play as a survivor because nothing is accomplished, whereas playing to kill people is a very tailored to goal in DayZ. When people ask for "easier" (used loosely) things, they're asking that someone show that there is more to DayZ than PvP. Players cannot enforce this because to do so means breaking their own rules. So to beat a deathmatcher, you have to actually play like one, thus cancelling out any point in the game to begin with.
  6. You're incredibly ignorant. It's not a matter of being scared to die. Many people WANT to play at night' date=' believe it or not. Dying isn't the problem. It's the fact that your only options are to get lucky and find NVGs or make yourself glowing beacon. How do you think stealthy night operations happened during WW2? They certainly didn't have night vision or draw attention to themselves by carrying road flares. [/quote'] This in a nutshell. Why hate on those with common sense? I want to play at night because night operations are best to avoid bandits. The cover of night has always given inferior numbers an advantage if used properly. If I wanted to be lit up, I would play on a daytime server.
  7. This. It's obviously an exploit' date=' thankfully the devs are looking into stopping this crap. [/quote'] This is an issue for the same reason nighttime being pitch black during a full moon is an issue. The hardcore "click" hates to lose any advantage they get.

To Rocket & the “Hardcore” crowd

I want you inside me. ...................... :s So...I used to try and go into the mindset of an MMO, but now I am more or less treating it as an Fantasy Action RPG. It helps because I have friendlies, and most everyone else is neutral/hostile. I even pretend that, while I'm at a group checkpoint, we'll pop zombies in a far off building and have a sniper mini-game. The only problem is when my friends want to go raid Elektro for fun...not my idea of fun...NWAF? Will do, that's more of a bandit place...it FEELS like a PvP zone, but the coastline? It doesn't. So I'm more apt to stay behind and guard our base while they go.
  9. Nobody gives a shit about survival one way or another, the gear you spawn with doesn't matter. Actual survival implies being scared about dying, but when we can respawn, who cares? It's best to just accept that DayZ is a fantasy and move on. The game and it's PvP/lack of survival obsession becomes much more tolerable at that point.
  10. I don't see how players are "random walking loot piles" They are far from random. Each survivor, within reason, has bandages, water, food, and possibly ammo if you are both using the same gun. What makes DayZ addictive is dependent on the player. For the survivors, it's trying to find some meaning in the world (grouping, achieving a goal, surviving). For Bandits, it's riches (gear, NVGs, etc.). And for griefers, it's the notion of being able to kill without danger to themselves. There's also a hybrid, for lack of better words I call it the "Adventurer" that likes to explore cities and isn't afraid to kill on sight, but will gladly use Direct Comms when he isn't staring at a gun. I think most people are hybrids, but I have yet to actually meet them in-game.

To Rocket & the “Hardcore” crowd

Complete bullshit. Name one game as an example of this. Aces High, World War 2 Online, GunZ: The Duel, Soldier Front, Navy Field. Need I go on? All of them are pretty much dead to the public eye because of elitist pricks too scared of losing their "hardcore" artificial advantage that they run every budding player off in a torrential downpour of shitposting. If you think you're so "hardcore" then go join the military, plain and simple. Games are meant to be enjoyed, and DayZ is not enjoyable unless you've an NVG wielding bandit that camps on the radio tower near Cherno and throws flares in town to pick people off. There's no interaction, no talking, and a complete disregard for helping along any playstyle other than mass deathmatching. Zombies get harder and all that happens is the survivors can't shoot back without attracting a horde on them. If this is DayZ, then rocket needs to come out and say so, maybe then we can let the hype die down and get back to game development, but if he wants to make more than a persistent world Free For All ArmA2 game, he's going to have to make some serious statements.
  12. Rocket tells us that he's not going to tell others how to play, yet makes it impossible for anyone without NVGs to survive in an unrealistically BLACK night. So, either nighttime gets an overhaul, or NVGs get removed. Right now, the "not helping balance" argument is wearing thin when there's a clear design preference to mass killers, not even normal bandits.

dark is TOO FUCKING DARK -> dayz devs listen ffs

If you want to see true nighttime, play Firefall. You can see silhouettes, and you have a flashlight for making sense or looking up close, but you can still tell dirt from rock. Anyone that sticks to the "find NVGs" bullshit is an idiot, pure and simple. That's a 0.11% chance of ever happening, and really ruins the whole point of the game. The more rocket continues to ignore "balance" the easier he makes it for bandits. Either Nighttime needs an overhaul, or NVGs need to go. To ignore this obvious DESIGN flaw is not only stupid, but shows what kind of gameplay is preferred: Murdering the helpless for points.
  14. Non-Lethal take-downs are like the "laser tag" mode in America's Army 2. You don't know it exists unless someone tells you, and even then, nobody plays/does it. This is a video game, and even RPers want blood. I'm not saying more options is a BAD idea, but they would never be used and are, for the most part, a waste of development time.

    DayZ comic on Ctrl+Alt+Del

I still don't get why they (EC/CAD) talk about the zombies in DayZ...are they on some server without bandits or something?
  16. Virfortis

    Well here's a few ideas...

To be honest, I figured that with food acting like health potions and being able to lift a car engine in your backpack, we weren't exactly going for real, but fantasized.

Why is everyone I meet an ***hole?

This is the future I see too, just like Face of Mankind. It boils down to the highly prickish few and eventually the mod dies from existence because nobody wants to deal with the community. Even rocket gets sick of being associated with the "hardcore" or the "veterans" so I wonder how long until he throws his hands up and tells them to make it themselves.

Why is everyone I meet an ***hole?

This in a nutshell. For all his defense behind remaining neutral, rocket continues to neglect that he's not bringing PvP to ArmA2, he's bringing survival to it. ArmA2 is all about killing and conquering, DayZ tries to bring in survival, and the people neglect it. No other FPS out there has done survival, not even STALKER. It's because survival as is legitimate is boring. It's a lot like Minecraft: You can build your house and find diamond, but then what? Surviving in the world is boring, so people turn to griefing/banditry for fun. And no, I've never been shot for my gear, just shot because I was a player, so don't give me the "you have better stuff" argument because it holds no water to me. Maybe some people do, but I've never tangoed with them. All I've dealt with are snipers spamming the now removed side chat with "faggot down" type comments. I don't think I've been killed by anyone other than someone with an M101 since the new patch, and they were in the fire tower in Elektro. Again, why be in Elektro if you have the best gun in the game? To grief of course.

Why is everyone I meet an ***hole?

Oh for Cherno's sake' date=' do I have to put EVERYTHING I POST up with a disclaimer? I shoot people, ALL the time, because they're a threat to me, but I'm not a coast camping dick that rushes around and gets his jollies from racking up killstreaks like some 12 year old with a headset an Xbox Live. If you're the kind of person that just up and says "hey, let's go kill people in Elektro" then you're an asshole, and anyone that agrees that mindless, pointless PvP is somehow "realistic" needs some damn sunlight. Secondly, I'm not really talking much about the game itself, but I'm CERTAINLY talking about the community and forums. We live in a world where it's somehow considered socially acceptable to not know how to act in public, to be stupid and ignorant, and to be a bigoted, socially inept introvert because hey, we're on the internet! NO! THIS kind of behavior and douchebaggery is EXACTLY why the internet is facing such a problem with censorship. The internet is full of piracy, trolling, flaming, and anonymous jackassing that make most TABLOIDS look sensible. DayZ is a PERFECT example of it, trying to portray a more mature and thought provoking game, but being boiled down by people treating it like just another FPS and planning raids like it was some MMORPG. People assume that those with friends are going to die the first 5 minutes an apocalypse hits, to which I call bullshit because it's been proven time and time again in society. The people that die off quickest are the same people that DayZ faces as a disgrace to the community. No, this is as fantasy as fantasy can get. In DayZ, you can do whatever you want and not worry about it because you respawn. People go looking for trouble, and will hunt down people for fun without any regard to safety. In REALITY, natural selection would have cleared those assholes out very quickly, but here they respawn. I'll play the realism card when your game uninstalls on dying.
  20. Given the bullets whizzing in the 5 servers I tried tonight, I wouldn't doubt it. They figured out that they can camp on the coast and play Duck Hunt. When I finally spawned somewhere where I didn't die on loading, getting off the coast was fairly easy.
  21. Stay with groups or hunt for chopper crashes near Stary/Novy and you should stay ammoed up.

Classes in DayZ (let the shitstorm commence)

Classes, as a whole, would be fairly pointless for DayZ given that those who do survive have to be very versatile at all times. Having classes would lead to major imbalances, and everyone would pick the one that starts with a gun. Everyone can do everything right now, and really that's the best way to keep it.
