Gradan, that's absolutely true. Having a team of survivors I play with has made the experience much MUCH more enjoyable. It does take time to develop however, but once it's there... The possibilities are endless.

First, this post is aimed at the new players , specifically those who purchased ArmA II for Day Z. Step One. Read this Basically, it says learn to playing ArmA first. Then worry about being lost in the middle of zombie land. Step Two. Get the hell away from the coast. You do not require a map or compass to do this. See the coast ? Walk in the opposite direction. Survival instantly becomes 5x easier . Step Three Don't aggravate zombies. This can be accomplished by crawling / crouch walking past them or avoiding them all together. Step Four If/Once you have failed step three, get zombies off your ass by either A) Running into building then running out ( they cannot at this time run in buildings ) B) Running up hill into forest & zig zagging ( They'll start to fall behind ) C) Running into cover and going prone ( works most of the time ) D) Beating them to death with axe/crowbar/shooting with silenced weapon. Step Five Remember this is an ALPHA - Most games/mods aren't available to the public in this stage. Step Six Remember you purchased ARMA II / CO not Day Z. You've just outlined the features which make this mod so unique ! Isn't it just great ? A difficult world that you have to fight to survive in where absoutely nothing is given to you. ( Aside from a bandage / painkiller of course )

I've noticed that ArmA 2 sales have been through the roof these past weeks ( gee wonder why) and it's got me thinking. How many of you have actually played ArmA 2 in some capacity prior to Day Z ? Personally, I've been playing since it was released and was involved in a tactical realism unit for it.. Which I think sort of puts me at an advantage against those new to the series, however I must say. Playing maps from a scavenging /survival aspect as opposed to a military operation is MUCH more intimate.|| Endnote: I wrote a brief post about Playing Day Z with no ArmA experience. After surviving for a good 22 hours of game play, I was providing over watch in Cherno for my team. For some idiotic reason I had brought DMR ammo for the AS50, so i decided I'd move into the city and over them from one of the buildings. Naturally, when I went to get off the roof the ladder was bugged, and my character thought it'd be a better idea to fly to the ground. To make things better... My body vanished in less than 5 minutes causing me to loose. AS50 M4A1 CCO SD Rangefinder NVG Alice Bag All the tools (maps,matches,etc) Upon spawning I broke my leg crawling out of an outhouse only to be devoured by 10 zombies. Oh yeah. I've fallen off of a building this way TWICE. #Fail.

I was playing today with a few of my team members in our home server and one of them came under fire. He ran for cover at the supermarket and survived a volley of DMR rounds. Naturally, our crew plays as a team which meant I was providing over watch. I looked around to find two survivors sitting in the wide open field beside each other. One with a ghille suit, one with regular clothes. 2 shots and two kills later they were down. What does this mean? Be careful who you shoot, you'll never know who is watching.

Try opening steam , right click on ArmA and verify integrity of cache.

Day Z - Do not Do list Tips for surviving in the Chernarus I'm going to take something for granted here and assume everyone reading that plays Day Z enjoys living long enough to actually accomplish something. Perhaps you want to build a sandbag fort, perhaps it's repairing a car, maybe hunting bandits ( or survivors ). All of these are great fun and can be very challenging and rewarding, however you need to make it there first. Meet: The Day Z DO NOT DO list. This is a list of actions one should try and avoid at all costs - for following these tips alone will keep you alive much longer than the average newbie. Running on the highway Generally you've just spawned fresh on the coast. You'll have little gear, lots of zombies , and pesky bandits that will pick you off like turkeys [*]Running across wide open fields Your begging for a bandit to pick you off. Just don't do it [*]DO NOT fight zombies just because their in your way. Chances are you can sneak around them. There's no point risking blood loss or death for a couple zombies that were climbing trees a mile away from your objective. [*]DO NOT shoot zombies if it's not 100% necessary Ammo can be a pain in the ass to store and save. Use it sparingly, the worse thing is when another player is shooting at you and you hear click instead of BANG [*]AVOID The use of flares / chem lights / flashlights. ESPECIALLY AT night. Your basically putting up a sign that says, "I'm Here !" If you must use these lights, ensure you throw them AWAY from you by holding down the LMB (left mouse button) for a period of time first. - thedeadlysun [*]DO NOT QUIT THE GAME TO AVOID DEATH / ZOMBIES / OTHER PLAYERS [*]DO NOT Sprint through towns / villages [*] You should avoid sprinting as much as possible, it makes you a MUCH easier target. For everyone. Instead crouch walk/sprint or crawl. If your careful, you will be able to crawl right by zombies that are but a few feet from you. [*]DO NOT trust ANYONE by default. This is a game of everyone for them self. They could lead you into a trap just as quickly as they can help you. I've also taken the liberty of starting a website, dayztutorials.com.
