    Humanity Idea

I think the skins that were used in the Dayz Mod depending on your level of humanity worked well but was way to obvious and apart from the new skin did not hold any other purpose. Part of me thinks that there should be no visual reference to which way the survivor has decided to play but after playing the Standalone for quite a while and being held up, fed disenfectant and shot in the legs I started to think there should be someway of telling but subtly. I had a couple of ideas which i would love some feedback on to see if im heading down the right or wrong path on this one. 1. Momentos - I discussed this with a frend of mine as to what this would consist of. One idea would be small items/clues which could be looked for. Maybe for a Bandit, if they kill a neutral player, a finger could hang from a chain on their belt, which at a distance and a certain angle could not be seen, until you meet and you happen to spot it on them, or when they kill so many neutral players it could advance to Scars on their face, or a blood stained rag hanging out their back pocket. This could even extend to certain types of tattoo appearing on them. Maybe if you were to sway the other way, killing bandits and helping fellow survivors, things like handcuff keys hangin out the pocket, a bandage around their arm or maybe a name badge on the chest. 2. Gestures - Rather than having something visible on them, maybe change the way they interact with the world and other survivors. For example, Everyone starts so they can wave, hold their hands up sit etc. If that survivor was to shoot an neutral survivor there wave is slightly lower, they sit more slumped or they run differently, after killing more neutral survivors this could unlock more taunts (cut throat, point and shout for backup, angry etc), maybe even allow things like stomping on unconcious players if they wish, or use their rifle butt as a weapon. For the more helpful, killing bandits as a neutral and helping survivors gives a higher animated wave, a more welcoming sitting animation or a beckoning gesture. As they help their fellow survivors more things unlock such as helping an floored survivor to their feet/support a broken leg, or the ability to do CPR or even go in for a hearty handshake.
  2. I liked they way Skyrim slowly built upon your skills using books. So when you picked up and read an archery based title you skill level would move up, but i would think it would work better along the lines of the quality of crafting rather than restricting that item to those who have read the book (More Durability, more powerful shot etc) For example, you find a cooking book that means when you prepare a meal, it has more benefits towards hunger level and stamina recovery. Or with future crafting in mind, may mean that once you have read a specific book, the explosive devices you make are more complex or more reliable. Or with medical benfits, you might read a book on CPR, which then unlocks that option with that particular character so there a chance they can revive someone without Saline or Epinephrine. Maybe even finding books on maintenance means you can repair with the right tools items with a higher degree of damage Having a "Knowledge" for that character would mean even if you got mugged and everything stolen, there knowledge would be worth keeping them alive, or even be worth the team that was going to mug you could use your skills to benefit their team.

    Expanded use of items

Currently there is a simple and effective items in game that all have their specific purpose (Matches + Wood = Fire, Tools + Wire/Tank Trap Kits = Wire and Tanktraps). I`d love to see more simple items but with the option to create items that are useful and more complex. Saying that it would be very easy to over do it, i had an idea in my head that Firearms would not just be a find and fire situation which would require having to find the parts in order to make it useable (Such as AK74 you would need to find Barrel, Reciever, magazine and ammo). After careful consideration figured this could get very complicated and wouldnt be popular with the Bandit crowd (Although it would encourage trading). But simple things like wood could be used with bandages and fuel to create a torch for light aswell as a melle against Zeds, or a splint (Mentioned already on this forum somewhere) instead of morphine. Tin cans and bottles could be used with rope for early warning alarms (Already mentioned somewhere on this forum) or with fuel and bandages for make shift bombs or lighting. I should think a lot of this has been mentioned on seperate sections already but interested to see other peoples ideas towards additional items and combinations.

    DayZ Supply drop

Maybe instead of a message and random grid referenmce, spawn a huge plane which flies inland from the sea and will drop a supply crate randomly along its flight line. Would need to make sure it had a nice loud engine so everyone could hear ith flying overhead from where ever they are on the map.
  6. Love this new patch. Being able to hide from Zombies is excellent, and also means i dont need a gun to survive those early encounters. If someone else feels they need to shoot me for my bandage then thats fine by me, i`ll just spawn again for another epic adventure. Havn't seen the double barrel shotgun yet so i`m interested to see what thats like. Ive noticed a lot of players teaming up now, ive even been rescued by random strangers without them shooting me in the back afterwards. This patch has added a whole new lease of life to this MOD which is sapping even more of my spare time now, thanks Dayz Team! But if there was one thing i would add while keeping the whilst keeping the Bear Grylls starting equipment would be some sort of melee. Initially i was against any type of melee, but i could see this being useful from new spawn. I saw someone posted a video of a simple melee system for Arma 2, implementinng a simple gun butt or punch if unarmed which stunned on the first hit then knocked out with the second. Means thats with all the new challenges added, players would not feel as helpless at the beginning. I dont think it would be something you could spam like in L4D2, but something that could buy you some more time when faced off with a single aggro'd zombie. Or none of this.
  7. YES Has given this a mod a whole new lease of life. Dont need a starting gun, just balls of steel.

    Trip Hazard

Wasnt really sure about this and couldnt find it anywhere else in the suggestions but her goes. What about a system that gives you a very small chance to trip or fall if your running full speed whilst looking behind. I only thought of this as i was running from a hoard of Z`s last night and accidentally caught the prone key whilst counting how many were chasing me. Was briefly funny, then there was panic as i mashed the keyboard to stand up. In a lot of horror movies theres parts where the victim being chased looks behind them in terror and trips on something adding to the tension and panic, why not in DayZ? I dont know about anyone else, but i`m guessing if i was running full speed through a field while looking behind me there's a chance that a well placed rock or rabbit hole would cause a hilarious yet inconvenient face plant. This is a rather insignificant suggestion, but all the good ones have been mentioned.
  9. YES Let the 1st/3rd person panic commence! Random spawn locations would be good though.
  10. +1. This sandbox style survival is a very welcome change from my usual games. I defused enough bombs, got enough medals, levelled in enough MMO's and got enough achievments. This game is tough and always should be.

    Notebook

I was a bit unsure about this idea to start with, but the more I play the more this makes sense. I could see players storing information about places they've visited, experiences with players. Plus an insight in to how others deal with the situation once a notebook was found would just add depth and variety to an already engrossing game.

    Dogs: Discussion

I think the idea of dogs is great, but will not be without its pros and cons. As a companion I think its abilities need to be limited. Tracking sounds like a really good idea, but we also have to consider if you follow a trail it could be leading you to a trap. Also having an animal tagging along means your a bigger target. I think maybe a simple alert could be used, maybe a growl for a threat, bark for loot. Then take in to consideration a dogs bark will alert people to your presence. Then of course there's the mess it could leave on your safe room floor, and bringing back that flare your threw lighting you up like some kind of neon zombie snack.
