Experimental Branch: 0.47 Discussion
hells high replied to SmashT's topic in PC Experimental Updates
This is experimental branch, things will be royally screwed up from time to time. If you can't accept that or be constructive and patient instead of bitching go back to stable and wait for the patch to be pushed there in a better state. -
Experimental Branch: 0.47 Discussion
hells high replied to SmashT's topic in PC Experimental Updates
Yeah its a bugger. Just don't spam LMB and you should never get the bug (this has been my experience). Just hold LMB to melee and your character will continue to hit at the fastest speed possible (usually if you are knocking zombies out with your fists). I have success waiting for the animation to end before attempting another hit if I need to strike multiple targets with my axe. -
Great so we can get screwed at the shop in game as well as in real life. I'd support this idea just to see someone charged a few extra bullets for a new set of muffler bearings.

Nah not realistic. We won't have that until you need to physically aim and line both sights with your physical body, because that kind of thing isn't determined by a computer algorithm but rather your body and the laws of physics. It is a very nice gamey way to simulate and compensate for not needing to do that yourself though. I agree that its a good addition and helps simulate the act of shooting a firearm in difficulty, I just wish we'd stop calling gameplay elements realistic. ;)

What Do You Want to See When you die?
hells high replied to CANUCKinNZ's topic in General Discussion
Black screen. And I like the "You Are Dead" simply because its a DayZ thing. -
I one shot a guy in the gut with an M4 I had just picked up and loaded a single round into. I was at Balota in the western prison building and he was running towards me, but somehow didn't see me. Single shot to the gut and he dropped. Quickly put in another and popped him in the head to be sure, but he was already down. Didn't feel too bad afterwards because I ran up to him and found he had nothing but hastily picked up military gear in his mountain pack from hopping Balota. Still though, if he was just passing through like me it would have been different. Best? I tend to simply avoid people or help when I can. Shortly after early access began my whole MO was helping people get started, giving food, helping people navigate or loot, just being that guy. I still run into nice people once in a while but most of the time seeing a player = me hiding in a bush with my AK at the ready as they pass by.

I get what you are trying to say, but I think you are missing a big piece of the puzzle here. Variety of guns doesn't necessarily mean the Call of Duty/Battlefield/Counter Strike arsenal, and it doesn't mean every family house is going to be packing a wall of modern firearms. Just in my tiny slice of life here in rural Canada I've seen: 1) Innumerable varieties of larger caliber hunting rifles and shotguns, including muzzleloaders. Plenty of different small caliber varmint rifles (.22, .17HMR, etc) 2) Plenty of historical firearms from flint lock relics to a Garand/Mosin/Enfield/SKS's (a nice one goes for about $200 here, can you imagine closer to home?) etc. 3) Handguns of various variety, including an FN .45, 1911 and a CZ75 (got to go shooting the CZ not long ago.) 4) A large .50 caliber "sniper rifle". 5) I've even seen the "high grade" stuff on the walls of small town gunshops. I understand you don't want piles of everything. However you have to remember that a huge variety actually helps to make things more scarce. Just because you have 50 rifles doesn't mean every house is going to spawn 12. If the developers do loot distribution and limitation appropriately (which is part of the reason we are testing here in early access) then that rifle you are carrying on your back might be completely different from most people, and maybe even takes different ammunition. You might loot for hours and only find a bit of ammo for something completely different that someone else is looking for. Hell you might resort to using your precious few bullets to go on a rampage in hopes of more and never find any from all those bodies. I think you are looking at this from the wrong angle, variety is the way to go, because variety doesn't necessarily mean there will be more of it in each server.

What are good game mechanics/ features from other games that work in dayz ?
hells high replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Free aim used to be possible by changing some settings in the files, a relic from ARMA2. I played with it all the time. I think it would be nice, but can't really see how it would work with the really nice weight system they have implemented. I tried to show it in the video but it was always useful to me in the way that I could lower my weapon slightly and peer over the weapon. I know Dslyecxi has made videos about how he doesn't like it but he also has TrackIR, and can fluidly lower his aim with his mouse while peering over the sights using his TrackIR. -
What they are suggesting is a built in implementation by the developers, not a version of this particular mod made for DayZ.

"the plan is to replace it as modules as we go along" You don't just rip chunks out of the Quake 1 engine and stick bits of Cryengine 3 in there. Its being rewritten as they go, it doesn't mean they are going to port assets to anything else. Look at Half Life 2 and compare it to, say, Titanfall or even Portal 2. All Source engine games but the latter have been so heavily modified that Titanfall wasn't even shown as a "source game" and Portal 2 is running on a version that Valve have been struggling with the idea of renaming as it features huge advancements in how things are handled and probably bears very little resemblance to the original HL2 was released with. People struggle with how game engines work sometimes, just look at the backlash to hearing the new Battlefront would run on Frostbite. "Oh so its going to have lens flares and blue tint, lame."

You don't just make a claim that goes against every single other thing we've gotten on the situation without posting the evidence. Ever since the announcement was made we've heard that it was simply the new name they were giving to the current engine as it was being reworked. If there is actually evidence to the contrary then post it.

Admin Warning for using group chat (Exp 0.47)
hells high replied to GrrArrgh's topic in General Discussion
I've had it happen on past versions as well, it seems to be something the server owners are enabling or adding. -
You can't have an open world game where players are encouraged to do whatever they want and then say that they shouldn't do this one thing. It sucks that people will do it, I've literally never starved to death in standalone.

Why you don't need to server hop to get geared.. ever.
hells high replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I don't server hop for gear mainly because of why or how I play the game, not because of some moral issue. A lot of people play simply to get geared (as in, the highest tier military loot and high grade weapons) and rush to the nearest hotspot for some combat (whether its against bandits or whatever). Personally I enjoy creating the story of my character making due. Sometimes I get interesting ones, sometimes I don't, that's part of the fun. At least I never starve, the hoppers tend to leave everything but police stations untouched. I've managed to gear my current hardcore character pretty heavily, including an AKM, sidearm and pristine large vest by legitimately playing the game without hopping. This doesn't make me any better than anyone that might choose to hop but I imagine my feeling of accomplishment is a little higher. Then again, it isn't about the combat for me. -
Its still the NEAF for some reason. Nothing there, but people will still kill eachother over it.

The part about the car door is great, that's what I like about DayZ; the story you create with your character. I know a lot of people like to "hop in, gear up, go kill people" and that's cool and all that you can do that, but I personally love the organic way that things happen. I have stories for some of my weapons, some of my clothing items, and even sometimes a food item or two will have a neat little experience with it. I kept a can of beans for a character's lifespan one time because a kind person, a grand adventure, and a terrible ending surrounded it. I'm excited.

Gun movement is not synchronized with crosshair...
hells high replied to Sputnik (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The crosshair is only to show you where you are looking, not where your weapon is pointing. Your weapon has no crosshair in that regard. Personally I like it, not because its "realistic" or not (it really isn't), but because it makes people think. Its a game design element, because this is a game. You can't just storm into a building with a big, powerful AKM and clean house (unless you were to do it properly, in which case you'd probably not be simply ramboing in there). You might have to think about actually taking your time and thinking through your movements, positioning yourself so that you won't need to worry about how long it takes you to swing your weapon around. If you get snuck up on, you should have been paying attention to your rear (that's what the freelook is there for). It means you have to pay attention to the game world you are taking part in, instead of just focusing on the "next sick frag at Berezino". -
I've been watching some experimental streams today and it still seems like a hotspot. Plenty of firefights over one single ATC tower.

Seriously, add a restart button, I can't even play DayZ anymore
hells high replied to sketch814's topic in General Discussion
Thats actually an interesting idea. -
Maybe you should stop playing for a few months, at least until beta.

Finding different "Roles" to play in DayZ..
hells high replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
By this point, with the countless hours in ARMA 2 and DayZ I can get a vague heading by taking a look around. Needless to say I don't tend to pick up many compasses, have you put it on the bug tracker just to make sure they know that the usability isn't great? I've had a few roles, from keeper of Solnichniy and subsequent new spawn guide when everyone spawned there and tended to be new/friendly, to about a week of UN Food Distribution when the blue helmet was added (by then people tended to be less friendly, I had to give more new spawns a .45 slug to the gut than a can of beans because they tried to knock me out). For the most part I tend to just play a lone survivor that avoids people, keeping things fresh by changing up my loadouts and not always going for "ubergeared" all the time. -
I was teleported under the floor of one of the apartments in Novo upon spawning in. Holding an axe I was able to vault underneath the stairs, log out, rejoin, and was standing on top of the stairs. I'll definitely have to try your method next time!

Came upon a huge weapons stash in Berezino.
hells high replied to Doyal's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like bad luck to me friend, I ran around for a week with a bag full of AKM mags before I found any attachments, and another 3 days before I found the rifle. -
There are morons everywhere, unfortunately a lot of them do play video games. And no they would have killed you anyway, their statements are pure nonsense because they lack social skills and default to dumb shit like that. I can assure you these people would have killed you if you were a dude, they've killed plenty of guys before you. Like I do when I meet any other person (inb4 whiteknight or some other bullshit from the same morons). I've been backstabbed by female players, I've helped female players, I've been helped by female players, and I've killed female players.

I'm not sure if you meant hell as in me or hell as in just cursing. :P Yeah no that's not a solution I'd go with. If you've ever played the later Battlefield games they have that kind of delay on the revolvers and its god awful.
