    Most Bad-Ass Moment in DayZ?

    Lol of course you presume they were, anyone anybody ever kills in DayZ are bandits right? I travel in a group of 3-5 depending on who is online at the time, and I imagine those that try and take us out think we're bandits. We presume anyone that attacks us are bandits, even though they are probably just scared we'd do the same. Its a cool story but in this situation you have to face that you were the bandit, and from your story you hadn't seen them kill anything but an animal of some kind.
  2. Not necessarily. There's not one particular type of cut down Mosin. Looking them up you can find anything from heavily retooled versions ala an AK-pistol, but some of them could easily be done with nothing more than a good hacksaw.

    Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

    Nice. I love the way harness gear looks with a few pouches hanging off it. I feel like they wouldn't make a ballistic vest covered in MOLLE real estate for no reason. They could just as easily create a basic body armor set to do the same thing. Especially with the attachable pouch for the SMERSH being confirmed, I feel like they'll do modular MOLLE even if its just in the form of one lootable item like Ballistic Vest Pouches or something. For practicality I should prrooobably carry it all the time, but I've never been about practicality in this game. If the mood strikes me I'll toss one on, maybe let my buddies test their sidearms on it haha.

    I was not talking to you, I was talking to the original poster who suggested exactly for the kinds of mechanics you don't seem to want (running sideways whilst aiming down your optics, for example, hence my comment about full speed strafing aiming down your ACOG and letting loose on full auto.) I only quoted you because you were one of the few concerned about time in game vs. our opinion. In order to save you from looking it up, I figured I'd post it. I was replying to the OP, who made some suggestions like sprinting with your sights up and shooting this way, something I do not agree with. The lag issues with things like the hotbar are completely unrelated to anything being discussed in the original post, they are bugs not intended features of the movement system. Not sure why you keep bringing it up as if anyone wants the game to ignore button presses.

    I don't like this idea. Part of what makes ARMA and games based on ARMA interesting is that you have to think about how to position yourself to effectively fire on your target. Whether its staying uphill from a heavily traveled road or stopping and going prone to put fire on a moving target, it makes for much more tactical and rewarding combat. ARMA 3 made some excellent advances in mobility with this formula, eliminating a lot of the clunky, inhuman movements and its nice to see DayZ following suit. However I do not want to log into DayZ one day and watch two heavily armed players circle strafing around one another at full speed and blasting away through their ACOGs. Firing from the hip when moving at this speed is a different story, could be good for suppressing an immediate threat in order to take a more reasonable defensive or offensive position.

    Have you ever given guns and ammo to freshspawns?

    I've scattered M4s and mags around Solnichniy when it was a hotspot after being burned too many times whilst helping new spawns. Sit in the trees and watch the fireworks. :P I have ungeared my character to new people without issue, though that was long ago and now I'd expect to die instantly in doing so.

    NEW UPDATE: what the **** have they done?

    Even people that love the game know there are issues with the game currently, I mean its not done ye-... I don't have too much trouble with standing zombie, have you aim downwards quite a bit and be mindful of how the movement animations will twist your body. 300+ hours I guess I just kinda know how to adapt to the crazy zombies. :P Still learning with the crawler zombies though, usually have to hit them in the ass.
  8. I'm noticing a pattern here ;P There are people in both camps. Just like you aren't lumping yourself in with those people there are two different sides of the "its still a work in progress" camp. I'm just trying to show that there is a difference between them, much like you.
  9. Its all well and good to say "I want there to be more of a reason to survive" but the question is how. Suggestions and ideas are what get those sorts of things rolling. I like the curtain thing.

    So...after 8 months...

    Make sure to use the bug tracker, they are far more likely to track that than threads on the forums. I've never heard of the launching bug, I'd make sure to put that one up there if it isn't already. I say it should be addressed, although the way the ARMA engine does height means its probably a much bigger issue to work out than other physics based engines. I've fallen great heights and come out without a scratch, this could highlight some potentially huge issues that need to be worked out under the hood, and indicate that its probably not as simple as changing a value like in some engines.

    Stable - 0.47 Discussion

    That's the best thing I've read today. Your arm could be broken or you could be out of breath. Craft a splint and apply it, there is currently no indicator that your arm is broken other than crazy sway. I'm rocking the classic controls, double tapping W to sprint so reloading while running is still possible.
  13. Its a placeholder feature. There's nothing inherently better about saying "yes its bullshit" over saying "its a feature that isn't done yet." They've stated over and over again that they are working out how zombie will spawn and how this will work. Constructive posts or ideas on what you'd like to see in terms of respawning zombies are more than welcome.

    Its got a powerful round and it is more maneuverable than any other weapons of its caliber. I carry it with one of my characters just because I want to try it out, running different loadouts is part of what keeps the game fresh. Just pick it up and try it out instead of asking the forums.
  15. The phrases "laptop" and "ARMA based game" don't tend to fit together. If they were puzzle pieces they'd be corner pieces of different puzzles.

    Experimental Expectations?

    I think you need to read the comment that he was replying to in order to get the context. The way I take it is that the person (and actually a few people) feel like they should be able to easily find and pick up the new items. There's a guise of them wanted to "test the new guns" but really all they want to do is play with the new toys. I feel like Hicks is saying that we should just play the game naturally instead of begging for instant access to the new stuff.

    Don't click repeatedly. Your attack speed doesn't magically increase when you click like crazy. Holding the mouse button produces the same speed of attack and I've never gotten the bug doing so. I've also found that if I am attacking multiple zombies, circling and waiting for the entire animation to play before clicking again stops the bug from occurring. It nereds to be fixed but its not hard to prevent.

    Pretty cool that you were able to keep her alive so long, and actually playing the game. The helmet and gas mask combo must have been like a bullseye.

    Part of testing is breaking things. The devs might not think to intentionally break their own game in a specific way, which is why open testing is often a great commodity. If we broke it you can be damn well sure stable will.

    Every one is super excited about starting to collect gear in EXP. Don't forget that you are playing experimental, come the next patch all that will probably be gone. Don't build mega stashes until at least its pushed to stable guys. :P Any pictures of new stuff yet? I heard something about a Mosin wrap and have been carrying an extra burlap sack just in case... Found a camo bandana to cover up Dean's mug. :P

    Full servers are really taking a dump for me, especially when new players join. Probably has something to do with people abusing the loot spawning again as well. US Southcentral 0-4 just went down and has been infinitely restarting again. Hope it isn't going to happen to them all.
