NEW UPDATE: what the **** have they done?
hells high replied to Azzerrrr's topic in General Discussion
Even people that love the game know there are issues with the game currently, I mean its not done ye-... I don't have too much trouble with standing zombie, have you aim downwards quite a bit and be mindful of how the movement animations will twist your body. 300+ hours I guess I just kinda know how to adapt to the crazy zombies. :P Still learning with the crawler zombies though, usually have to hit them in the ass. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
hells high replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I'm noticing a pattern here ;P There are people in both camps. Just like you aren't lumping yourself in with those people there are two different sides of the "its still a work in progress" camp. I'm just trying to show that there is a difference between them, much like you. -
This game ever going to feel like surving the zombie apocalypse...
hells high replied to bastuden1's topic in New Player Discussion
Its all well and good to say "I want there to be more of a reason to survive" but the question is how. Suggestions and ideas are what get those sorts of things rolling. I like the curtain thing. -
Make sure to use the bug tracker, they are far more likely to track that than threads on the forums. I've never heard of the launching bug, I'd make sure to put that one up there if it isn't already. I say it should be addressed, although the way the ARMA engine does height means its probably a much bigger issue to work out than other physics based engines. I've fallen great heights and come out without a scratch, this could highlight some potentially huge issues that need to be worked out under the hood, and indicate that its probably not as simple as changing a value like in some engines.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
hells high replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Its a placeholder feature. There's nothing inherently better about saying "yes its bullshit" over saying "its a feature that isn't done yet." They've stated over and over again that they are working out how zombie will spawn and how this will work. Constructive posts or ideas on what you'd like to see in terms of respawning zombies are more than welcome. -
Its got a powerful round and it is more maneuverable than any other weapons of its caliber. I carry it with one of my characters just because I want to try it out, running different loadouts is part of what keeps the game fresh. Just pick it up and try it out instead of asking the forums.

Yay or Nay on Victim/Killer info on screen/Players list?
hells high replied to Vex_Vehix's topic in General Discussion
Nope. -
I think you need to read the comment that he was replying to in order to get the context. The way I take it is that the person (and actually a few people) feel like they should be able to easily find and pick up the new items. There's a guise of them wanted to "test the new guns" but really all they want to do is play with the new toys. I feel like Hicks is saying that we should just play the game naturally instead of begging for instant access to the new stuff.

EXP - Map now shows the players exact position
hells high replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
You guys are still arguing about it even though Accolyte has responded saying its not an intended feature. -
Pretty cool that you were able to keep her alive so long, and actually playing the game. The helmet and gas mask combo must have been like a bullseye.
-
Yup, only specific ones. They look different on the ground, and I imagine it would be something added to them all eventually.
-
Great so we can get screwed at the shop in game as well as in real life. I'd support this idea just to see someone charged a few extra bullets for a new set of muffler bearings.
-
Nah not realistic. We won't have that until you need to physically aim and line both sights with your physical body, because that kind of thing isn't determined by a computer algorithm but rather your body and the laws of physics. It is a very nice gamey way to simulate and compensate for not needing to do that yourself though. I agree that its a good addition and helps simulate the act of shooting a firearm in difficulty, I just wish we'd stop calling gameplay elements realistic. ;)

What Do You Want to See When you die?
hells high replied to CANUCKinNZ's topic in General Discussion
Black screen. And I like the "You Are Dead" simply because its a DayZ thing. -
I one shot a guy in the gut with an M4 I had just picked up and loaded a single round into. I was at Balota in the western prison building and he was running towards me, but somehow didn't see me. Single shot to the gut and he dropped. Quickly put in another and popped him in the head to be sure, but he was already down. Didn't feel too bad afterwards because I ran up to him and found he had nothing but hastily picked up military gear in his mountain pack from hopping Balota. Still though, if he was just passing through like me it would have been different. Best? I tend to simply avoid people or help when I can. Shortly after early access began my whole MO was helping people get started, giving food, helping people navigate or loot, just being that guy. I still run into nice people once in a while but most of the time seeing a player = me hiding in a bush with my AK at the ready as they pass by.

I get what you are trying to say, but I think you are missing a big piece of the puzzle here. Variety of guns doesn't necessarily mean the Call of Duty/Battlefield/Counter Strike arsenal, and it doesn't mean every family house is going to be packing a wall of modern firearms. Just in my tiny slice of life here in rural Canada I've seen: 1) Innumerable varieties of larger caliber hunting rifles and shotguns, including muzzleloaders. Plenty of different small caliber varmint rifles (.22, .17HMR, etc) 2) Plenty of historical firearms from flint lock relics to a Garand/Mosin/Enfield/SKS's (a nice one goes for about $200 here, can you imagine closer to home?) etc. 3) Handguns of various variety, including an FN .45, 1911 and a CZ75 (got to go shooting the CZ not long ago.) 4) A large .50 caliber "sniper rifle". 5) I've even seen the "high grade" stuff on the walls of small town gunshops. I understand you don't want piles of everything. However you have to remember that a huge variety actually helps to make things more scarce. Just because you have 50 rifles doesn't mean every house is going to spawn 12. If the developers do loot distribution and limitation appropriately (which is part of the reason we are testing here in early access) then that rifle you are carrying on your back might be completely different from most people, and maybe even takes different ammunition. You might loot for hours and only find a bit of ammo for something completely different that someone else is looking for. Hell you might resort to using your precious few bullets to go on a rampage in hopes of more and never find any from all those bodies. I think you are looking at this from the wrong angle, variety is the way to go, because variety doesn't necessarily mean there will be more of it in each server.

What are good game mechanics/ features from other games that work in dayz ?
hells high replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Free aim used to be possible by changing some settings in the files, a relic from ARMA2. I played with it all the time. I think it would be nice, but can't really see how it would work with the really nice weight system they have implemented. I tried to show it in the video but it was always useful to me in the way that I could lower my weapon slightly and peer over the weapon. I know Dslyecxi has made videos about how he doesn't like it but he also has TrackIR, and can fluidly lower his aim with his mouse while peering over the sights using his TrackIR. -
What they are suggesting is a built in implementation by the developers, not a version of this particular mod made for DayZ.

"the plan is to replace it as modules as we go along" You don't just rip chunks out of the Quake 1 engine and stick bits of Cryengine 3 in there. Its being rewritten as they go, it doesn't mean they are going to port assets to anything else. Look at Half Life 2 and compare it to, say, Titanfall or even Portal 2. All Source engine games but the latter have been so heavily modified that Titanfall wasn't even shown as a "source game" and Portal 2 is running on a version that Valve have been struggling with the idea of renaming as it features huge advancements in how things are handled and probably bears very little resemblance to the original HL2 was released with. People struggle with how game engines work sometimes, just look at the backlash to hearing the new Battlefront would run on Frostbite. "Oh so its going to have lens flares and blue tint, lame."
-
You don't just make a claim that goes against every single other thing we've gotten on the situation without posting the evidence. Ever since the announcement was made we've heard that it was simply the new name they were giving to the current engine as it was being reworked. If there is actually evidence to the contrary then post it.

Admin Warning for using group chat (Exp 0.47)
hells high replied to GrrArrgh's topic in General Discussion
I've had it happen on past versions as well, it seems to be something the server owners are enabling or adding. -
You can't have an open world game where players are encouraged to do whatever they want and then say that they shouldn't do this one thing. It sucks that people will do it, I've literally never starved to death in standalone.

Why you don't need to server hop to get geared.. ever.
hells high replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I don't server hop for gear mainly because of why or how I play the game, not because of some moral issue. A lot of people play simply to get geared (as in, the highest tier military loot and high grade weapons) and rush to the nearest hotspot for some combat (whether its against bandits or whatever). Personally I enjoy creating the story of my character making due. Sometimes I get interesting ones, sometimes I don't, that's part of the fun. At least I never starve, the hoppers tend to leave everything but police stations untouched. I've managed to gear my current hardcore character pretty heavily, including an AKM, sidearm and pristine large vest by legitimately playing the game without hopping. This doesn't make me any better than anyone that might choose to hop but I imagine my feeling of accomplishment is a little higher. Then again, it isn't about the combat for me. -
Its still the NEAF for some reason. Nothing there, but people will still kill eachother over it.
