Okay, question for the brave souls running the game with post processing enabled. I've often been annoyed by the blurry and seemingly buggy depth of field effects, and never used them much in ARMA 2 (but DayZ just looks so pretty with them on. *o*) Today while killing some time, I was watching a zombie shamble back and forth through my PSO and realized, the blurriness disappeared when I aimed at him. I tried aiming at some trees to see if it was distance or object based but it appears to be related to entities such as zombies, animals, and players. Am I crazy to have noticed this or is it something known and documented? I tried it with the iron sights. The zombie was a fair distance away (I might guess, 6-7, maybe 800 meters away), aiming down the sights in his general area left the background blurry and my gun model clear. Aiming directly at him turned the gun model blurry and the background clear. Its an interesting way of doing it, though it leaves much to be desired. When I am aiming a rifle while target shooting or something, I am focused on the front post and what is down range. Plus there's an undesired effect of it working through foliage. I waited until he was behind a tree and could pick out where he was, simply by scanning back and forth until the DOF shifted. I haven't had the chance to try holding my breath to see if that shifts the DOF outwards as well. Personally I think it would be nice to be able to focus my view outwards when scanning a treeline or something, especially since the effect happens when in a scope.

DOF Effects Based On Entities When Aiming
hells high replied to hells high's topic in General Discussion
Lol definitely not my intent. I should also mention that I get this at distance, aiming at terrain/buildings at around 200 -300 meters pushes the DOF outwards. -
What i like to wear is a combination of greens and browns and tans (green pants, tan shirt, green vest, brown boots and gloves, etc), but the camo pattern I feel fits in best is the good old TTSKO. Its just a good pattern for Chernarus in general.
-
I tend to play a fairly neutral sometimes hero survivor, but I've been tempted to try running around in a black hoodie with nothing but a pistol trying to stick people up. Could be fun.
-
But you forget that someone could easily come and take other parts, requiring you to seek out the culprits or scavenge new parts. I like to think rival groups would emerge on home servers, raiding eachother and engaging in firefights over sparkplugs and the like, setting revenge ambushes on highways between known loot routes with IEDs. Unfortunately I don't think the playerbase will change, but with cool systems like this on the horizon I can dream and hope. :P
-
Exactly, plus the plan is to go even further than the various mods based around the DayZ formula did, where maybe you have to fix a tire or fuel it up. They want globally regulated and limted spark plugs and door panels and batteries for crying out loud. HOW COOL IS THAT?!
-
I do. I think it'd be fun to work on getting a car running with all my friends, then driving around in our shitty car with completely mismatched panels and doors of every colour. Building a character and having certain items that are reminders/products of the story we've forged over many hours of dicking around in DayZ is part of the fun for us. I think it'd be cool to have the same with vehicles.
-
Yes, only created for now. And painting it green turns it into a green plastic magazine. Horrible, horrible destruction of a lovely item to do so. :P Also, like with the plastic mags for the M4 it counts as a different type of magazine. So carrying both types can sometimes result in accidental reloads via the action menu.

I don't know if its a cowards tactic, I mean if they are shooting random people that are usually unarmed "for teh lolz" that makes them a dick but I don't know about a coward. Plus, its like a fun minigame to sneak up behind them and put a bullet in their brain. :P

Mosin-Nagant "Obrez" Modification? [Torchia Tweet]
hells high replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Why? Essentially the long horn but with 5 rounds instead of 1. Especially if you are in an urban area and want something much faster to maneuver and more pointable than a full length 91/30. If you are hanging out in the woods then yeah, probably don't cut it off, but its a hell of a lot of punch in a small package if you need to stick it in someone's chest. --- I'd carry this just for the challenge. :P -
Minimum Viable Gear - All you need in as few slots as possible
hells high replied to non-orthodox's topic in General Discussion
Axe of any Kind AKM 30rnd Metal MagFlashlight (mine is on the wooden handguard due to an acknowledged bug)Medical Kit Bandages/RagsSalineMorphine (less space than sticks)Protector Box PSOBinocularsETC random or RP items, like a book, or can opener or something)CR75 or FNX (since .45 only seems to come in mags currently) FlashlightAmmo Box AKM and .45/9mmSpare mag for each weapon, maybe 2 for the AK depending on food but I tend to eat and drink things as I go. In all honesty the pistol doesn't get much use but I like to have it just in case. Can easily be dropped to reduce size. Before the AKM was added I used to play my hardcore survivor like this and never had any issues staying alive. Its fun to try out different loadouts, not going for completely loaded down with military gear can be fun. Its important to stay green though, people say that makes you a PVP player but thats ridiculous. I don't know about you but if I'm trying to survive in the hostile wilderness I'm going to want to blend is as much as possible. -
Happened to me while holding the key to roll.
-
My AKM has saved me from Mosin and SKS toting KOS baddies with terrible aim way too many times.

Depends where I am, but the most common one with my friends is NWAF, Vybor/Kabanino base, Green Mountain, Zelenogorsk, Pavlovo base, Komarovo, Balota (plus a few towns in between usually to kill some zombies or whatever). Nice long route, we usually have a blast even if we never find a thing or see another person. We can usually get our characters outfitted with whatever kind of loadout we are trying for between the bases and the towns along the way.

My friends and I got ambushed at Olsha. We were re-consolidating ourselves and trying to decide where to go when one of my friends whispered "there's people outside". Shit hit the fan, bullets flew, I dropped one and got dropped at the same time. My friend picked up my lucky AKM that I've had since they were introduced and they managed to kill them. I had respawned near Novo, made it back and got my rifle. 5 minutes later my character randomly decides to throw and apple which turned it my AKM in mid air and it was gone forever. I'd like to think losing that rifle was the second time I died that day.
-
Nope. I tend to wear hats because I like them more and haven't been lesser from it yet, though I'm probably on borrowed time. :P I tend to be shot in the chest, and have had plenty of damaged and badly damaged vests save my life.
-
I'm a fan of the AKM. Not big into PVP I just love the way it looks and how much it represents the Eastern European setting. No attachments, metal 30 round magazines. My first one, the one I've had since they were introduced (and up until a few days ago, lost to random throwing bug) had a black painted stock I made by accident that made it kind of unique, as the paint texture isn't perfect and looks somewhat worn. It also had a weapon light glitched on the foregrip (after which I reported it to the bug tracker) until my friend took it off to make the attachments show up again. :P The magnum is probably my favorite pistol, though by the time I find one I've already got a 1911 or CR75 with a flashlight and a couple mags. Like I said, not too into the PVP and combat and only recently had some more experience with it. I tend to carry whatever kind of character or challenge I feel like having at the time. The CR527 carbine is a very cool weapon and would like to try building a character around it some time.

That is the only difference.

Is DayZ going to have microtransactions/DLC?
hells high replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
DLC is any C.ontent made available for D.ownL.oad (D.L.C.). Patches are DLC. Free updates are DLC. Mods can be considered DLC. Just a clarification, people need to stop using the acronym DLC as if it is some kind of money sucking vacuum vampire creature that eats babies. Before widespread highspeed internet and digital distribution these things used to be put in boxes and called Expansion Packs. Paid content updates are not something I'd like to see in DayZ, I do want to see DLC provided to the game post launch in the form of patches and updates. ;P No no no no, this is not at all what they are saying. When you bought ARMA 2 from BIS, you bought ARMA 2. The expansions did not exist when ARMA 2 came out. Post launch, they worked on and released some expansions which provided new experiences from what ARMA 2 provided. In order to let everyone play, they released them for free at a lower visual and audio quality. In order to get the full experience you need to buy the packs themselves. These packs were not included in ARMA 2, you did not buy them as they did not exist and are not part of the ARMA 2 base game when it came out. As a favor, BI let everyone have them for free when they did come out, post ARMA 2 launch. Its a good way to provide their fans with a bit of a demo, if you will, of their expansions on their products. -
Lol of course you presume they were, anyone anybody ever kills in DayZ are bandits right? I travel in a group of 3-5 depending on who is online at the time, and I imagine those that try and take us out think we're bandits. We presume anyone that attacks us are bandits, even though they are probably just scared we'd do the same. Its a cool story but in this situation you have to face that you were the bandit, and from your story you hadn't seen them kill anything but an animal of some kind.

Mosin-Nagant "Obrez" Modification? [Torchia Tweet]
hells high replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Not necessarily. There's not one particular type of cut down Mosin. Looking them up you can find anything from heavily retooled versions ala an AK-pistol, but some of them could easily be done with nothing more than a good hacksaw. -
Nice. I love the way harness gear looks with a few pouches hanging off it. I feel like they wouldn't make a ballistic vest covered in MOLLE real estate for no reason. They could just as easily create a basic body armor set to do the same thing. Especially with the attachable pouch for the SMERSH being confirmed, I feel like they'll do modular MOLLE even if its just in the form of one lootable item like Ballistic Vest Pouches or something. For practicality I should prrooobably carry it all the time, but I've never been about practicality in this game. If the mood strikes me I'll toss one on, maybe let my buddies test their sidearms on it haha.

I was not talking to you, I was talking to the original poster who suggested exactly for the kinds of mechanics you don't seem to want (running sideways whilst aiming down your optics, for example, hence my comment about full speed strafing aiming down your ACOG and letting loose on full auto.) I only quoted you because you were one of the few concerned about time in game vs. our opinion. In order to save you from looking it up, I figured I'd post it. I was replying to the OP, who made some suggestions like sprinting with your sights up and shooting this way, something I do not agree with. The lag issues with things like the hotbar are completely unrelated to anything being discussed in the original post, they are bugs not intended features of the movement system. Not sure why you keep bringing it up as if anyone wants the game to ignore button presses.

I don't like this idea. Part of what makes ARMA and games based on ARMA interesting is that you have to think about how to position yourself to effectively fire on your target. Whether its staying uphill from a heavily traveled road or stopping and going prone to put fire on a moving target, it makes for much more tactical and rewarding combat. ARMA 3 made some excellent advances in mobility with this formula, eliminating a lot of the clunky, inhuman movements and its nice to see DayZ following suit. However I do not want to log into DayZ one day and watch two heavily armed players circle strafing around one another at full speed and blasting away through their ACOGs. Firing from the hip when moving at this speed is a different story, could be good for suppressing an immediate threat in order to take a more reasonable defensive or offensive position.

Have you ever given guns and ammo to freshspawns?
hells high replied to HeroAtDay BanditAtNight's topic in General Discussion
I've scattered M4s and mags around Solnichniy when it was a hotspot after being burned too many times whilst helping new spawns. Sit in the trees and watch the fireworks. :P I have ungeared my character to new people without issue, though that was long ago and now I'd expect to die instantly in doing so.
