New military base west of Myshkino

I found 2 pristine MASKA helmets in the raised tin barracks.
  2. Okay guys let's get creative and have a little fun. I was very happy when it was confirmed that craftable clothing and items would be a focal point in the game. Already we've seen various animal skins being able to be made into bags and soon clothing. However with Chernarus being a rather modern country, I feel like there is a great opportunity for various items you might find lying around to be re purposed into survival gear. Obviously we already have the canvas pants which I'd imagine will be craft-able at some point, and the burlap sack being used for bags. More than animal skins and leather items I am excited to see how these kinds of items could be expanded upon. I can imagine with all the random clothing and scraps that would be lying around you could easily stitch together some kind of horrid t-shirt quilt and use it to create a bag out of (much like the boar skin packs, this tshirt quilt abomination texture could be used on existing items). You could stitch a hoodie into a courier bag of some sort, use a trash bag for the burlap sack recipes, etc etc. I feel like later in development the team could have a lot of fun coming up with random items you could find lying around to use in basic survival gear. I feel like mixing found clothing, crafted clothing, animal skins, and all the other things you find could create a very rich and interesting aesthetic that feels very "make do". Please, feel free to post your ideas I'd love to read them and get a creative brainstorm of ideas going. Also at some point I'd love to see crafted items for the chest slot. Maybe you could use the courier bag on your hip or something in conjunction with a backpack. It doesn't offer any protection but allows for that chest slot to be used to allow some more capacity.

Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?

Woah man, chill buddy. I know the backstory, and I've logged countless hours into everything from OFP to ARMA 3. Not sure if your nose is turned so far up because you like the smell of fresh air or what but it sure inhibits your social skills. I'm not reciting what I read in PC Gamer I'm reciting what I saw in the Czech Republic. The geography and architecture is all based on an area in that country, I don't see why that in any way contradicts the backstory of the game or why that means you couldn't find a VZ in that area, you sure as hell can find them here. "But most of you wouldn't know that", oh grow up you mouthpiece.

Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?

Chernaurus is based off the Czech Republic, so where is my damned VZ58 already! :P Fixed stock and folding stock, available railed handguards, its perfect. Actually I talked to Chris on Twitter about it and he felt it isn't different enough to what they already have. :C I'd like to see a mid length or full length AR15 of some kind. Other than than an FAL, a couple low and high end full size modernish bolt action rifles, maybe an M38 which is the carbine version of the Mosin. I also want the bolts for the Mosin to be lootable or even craftable attachments. It spawns with a straight bolt handle and if you want to mount a PU you need to find the bent one or something.
  5. I think those items should work as intended. One or two shots and the integrity of your plate or what have you is fucked, I think that should be reflected in the game.

Why can't I put the long range scope on the M4?

I'm guessing because not everything is configured 100% yet. Hopefully with some more high powered hunting rifles the LRS will shift to those platforms, the Mosin is just a good base to start with during development.

Item Tetris is it worth it ?

I like the current system because you actually have to think about what you are carrying, sacrifices have to be made. You can very easily survive with a courier bag and a hoodie.

    Dear Dolina Survivor....

    COOL, GOOD THREAD. *high five*

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?

I'm just going to say it, I'd love a lootable straight bolt for the Mosin. I don't use optics on mine and I'd love to have the classic straight bolt handle look. :P I'd prefer if it came with a straight bolt and you had to loot or craft the bent one but I can understand why they did it that way.
  10. Last time I ran into someone doing that I tried to talk to them and they ended up killing me.

M4A1 Can i be added back to Genral Military?

No, the UN is allowed to defend themselves if they come under direct attack. They carry everything from FALs to M16s.

    Invincible Bullet Catcher

Haha reminds me of ARMA2 ACE Insurgency. My friends and I carry piles and piles of medical supplies. :P
  14. I get oneshot by zombies regularly while fully geared so I'm not sure what the deal is. :P
  15. I haven't encountered this with as alarming frequency as others. I tend to kill zombies with my axe and do so in a dodging roundabout fashion. There's some serious issues we can only hope will be resolved with the expanded work on not only the servers to combat lag and desync but how the zombies work as well.
  16. Duplicates of items are created through the exploitation of bugs, not necessarily "hackers". Its a huge issue and part of the reason the hive is being wiped with the next update.

AKS-74U confirmed... could this mean...? no...

I'm not sure where I mentioned the M4 wasn't a carbine or where I even mention the M4, so I'm not sure what you are getting at. I said if they are adding a carbine AK I'd like it to be 5.56, like the OP asked.

AKS-74U confirmed... could this mean...? no...

I'd like to see the 5.56 version, just because that's the kind of area a carbine type weapon should fill in DayZ IMO. I've honestly never been too fussed about the absolute accuracy of each weapon and round type. Its just words on the texture of the box, or length of the cartridge model, and numbers in the round description. What I care about is the purpose that weapon serves, how it performs in the game compared to other weapons and why it needs to be in the game. They could add every variation of the AK platform from the original stamped 47 to the modern railed variants with every single one needing the exact correct ammunition and I'd be cool with it. They could also pick and choose each one that serves a specific purpose and approximate the rounds where it makes sense (the 39 rounding up to the 45 really doesn't bother me). Its just an I/O that tells the game to shoot while there is still data in the magazine. You could feed a Glock23 with .22LR and the gun could still act like an M2 Browning with zero bullet drop that explodes kittens everywhere on impact (which sounds awesome and you know it.)

DayZ Development progress makes no sense

Oh no another wall builder laid a brick and is conflicting with a brick underneath yours, causing your brick to become unstable. Now you need to fix the interference with your block. I should have been more clear, I meant that it wasn't as straightforward and steady as piling bricks on top of one another, there are hiccups that cause delays, disruptions, and sometimes changes to the building of the wall. You are correct. It was an analogy for complexity that I used in another thread but maybe it doesn't quite apply as well here.

DayZ Development progress makes no sense

My suggestion to you would be to learn a skill, gather a team, and build a mod. Not like a retexture, like a complete mod, with redesigned systems, scratch done art assets, etc etc. That is literally the only way you can start to comprehend the complexity of development. Its not a wall of lego bricks, where everything just fits on top of one another until you have the full thing. Edit So reading on in the thread I have learned that you do, indeed have a skill and presumably experience. This is good. However I still don't fully agree. Every once in a while when I create an asset it is needed quickly and thus finishing stages like texturing often require placeholders. Colour the metal grey and the wood brown, poof placeholder. Can be built and tested and whatever. Now, maybe I need to create a new asset. Knock that one out. Now I don't, so what do I do? Go back and do the first texture. Fire that off, inserted into the next build and boom, the changelog reads: -retextured *model* As I'm assuming you know various people have various jobs and are assigned to different things, but it can also be quite fluid especially when you have many employees. You can't have 20 programmers all writing the same system, sometimes extra developers set to work on, say vehicles, instead of the new rendering system. Prototyping vehicles clearly fits into the alpha stage, as its definitely not a feature complete. Like you said, ARMA2 already has frameworks for vehicles. What ARMA2 doesn't have is the expanded functionality of those vehicles.

    Advantage of little luggage?

Not currently, hopefully that will change as things like persistent storage are ironed out because you won't have to carry everything you need on you. In 0.49 we're already at the point where heavy clothing can make you overheat, so I can't see why weight won't be coming as well. For now smaller packs and whatnot make you harder to spot, as well as less of a target. If I see someone in a mountain pack at military bases and whatnot my first thought is "loot goblins", followed shorty by "engage". Plus being downgraded is a fun little challenge to keep yourself interested. I recently started running with the Smersh backpack just to try it out.

    NWAF + Heli Spawns

I find them more often at airfields as well. Going on a trip of the west side of the map i tend to find them at the two airfields more often than in the other spawns. Could be coincidence, but when I find them at Balota there's usually at least 2 there.

Tents. What are they good for? Absolutely Nuttin

Without some kind of long term survival goal it just becomes another Wasteland. You have to remember that eventually you won't be able to run across the map in a matter of 30 minutes. You won't last in a rain storm without seeking shelter in a building or seeking out proper clothing. Wearing heavy gear might wear you out faster, and will cause you to overheat. You won't and shouldn't be able to carry everything you need to survive in DayZ's apocalypse. I get your point, but you have to look at the big picture and the future. Things are coming that will fundamentally change the way we play DayZ, down to the most basic of things like how we move from place to place. That kind of stuff needs to be taken into account.

Just committed pre-wipe suicide in Berezino

My friends and I committed 3 way suicide. We stood in a triangle and everyone pointed their weapon at the guy on the right's head. On the count of 3 everyone pulled the trigger. It worked. We laughed our asses off.

    I want some combat.

I believe this satellite image of the eastern coastal area may be of use to your search. You'll notice the vast pools of blood that have tinged the grounds red, the various explosions and innumerable gunshots. Careful what you wish for.
