Well considering the unpredictable nature of the item damage system is clearly a bug at this point in time, I'm not entirely sure what else to say about your post...

Would you like to play on our PRIMETIME server?
hells high replied to seifeler's topic in General Discussion
I've heard Rocket mention that he'd like to see players develop societies within their own game groups some day. I think its a brilliant idea. Guys, server hosting isn't free. Most clans look for donations from its community to keep the server afloat. Plus they want to have 24/7 admins and moderators present, and an interesting sounding RP element with actors. -
This entire entertainment medium is about being someone or something you aren't. Obviously it would be nice if people would use their imagination and come up with new and interesting ways to use this sandbox world (considering the most common argument from KoSers is that its a sandbox and they can do whatever they want), but its their choice. Play the way you want and they'll do the same.

Next reset/death I'm going to try that. This most recent reset I decided to stay away from M4s, and most other military gear (I've never really used the helmet anyway, radar caps and ushankas 4 lyfe). I actually scoured the airfields for a chest holster to replace my tac vest, so I could look like a boss with the .357. Holding onto the .45 for a friend, collecting ammo in the box to give out like candy, and using the loudest weapons available to kill zombies. Basically I just decided I'd have a little fun and create a 'character' that acts and dresses in a certain way.

Can't wait till the Medical Division falls into anarchy, as starving members begin experimenting with the best ways to cook their co-worker's lower intestine.

The problem is that the team aren't magicians trained in the dark arts. There is a limit to what can be rendered on the engine at any one time, not to mention a limit to how much information a server can keep track of. In the mod they skirted these issues by spawning zombies and loot around the players. That way, the server and the engine only had to handle what was near the players and didn't have to run AI on every single zombie on the entire map. But now they want to fill the whole map with zombies and loot, as well as keep track of spawning rates, players, hit detections, ballistics, etc etc. We've all seen the servers choke on what we currently have, so its going to take a lot of time and energy to get these systems working properly. Its not quite as simple as changing a few values in the code, its going to require some major work under the hood. Just be patient and have faith, they might not be magicians but they sure are talented game makers.

That would be a half assed attempt to quell the players, most of which would ignore the warnings of it being placeholder and cry that Bohemia ripped them off. From what I've gathered, Dean dislikes doing things half assed; and would rather a feature be removed completely until its working properly. Just be patient mate.

Sounds like the stream gets some entertaining content, but hey that's just me.

.270's, 300 Win. Mags, Remington 700's, .22's, (all starting with iron sights of course) generally the types of hunting and ranch rifles you'd find in a fairly rural area. The VZ58 is also very popular with civilians and fits the setting. It scratches the semi-auto rifle itch, can take modernization upgrades such as railed foregrips and aftermarket buttstocks, and makes sense. Its a cool gun, and an improvement on the AK that needs some more love in video games.

Awe just because you got character wiped? So sad for you. :ccc Funny that the same day you were posting about how fun and awesome the game was. Don't buy into tests in the future. Getting it now was 100% your choice and you have nobody to blame but yourself. You were warned.

Why do you care what people want to do? It doesn't affect you in the slightest.

Ahh the pounding of the nails in this thread's coffin echo through the night. Don't buy into tests and you'll be fine in the future.

Just Glitch or More Green Mountain Stories?
hells high replied to nick.ristrom@yahoo.com's topic in General Discussion
On a side note you can get into Green Mountain other ways than just the front gate. The only way to get inside the chainlink is at the front but then you can follow it around and crawl through the iconic holes at the bottom of the inner one. -
Traveling with friends is a good way to make sure people hesitate before opening up on you. I've run into 3 or 4 people with my friends that just started playing with me. We approach with caution and weapons raised, then ask if they need anything/would like to trade. Honestly, its the apocalypse and people are desperate; some are just dicks as well but you can't really combat that in a virtual environment where death is an inconvenience. I think once we get some more zombies and they become more of a threat, people will be more willing to stick together to survive.

Saline Bags, can someone explain?
hells high replied to doomdesire86's topic in New Player Discussion
Saline bags will fix you right up. Just make sure its a Saline Bag IV and not just a Saline Bag; if it is you'll need to find an IV Start Kit, combine it with the Saline Bag, and then it will become a Saline Bag IV. Best of luck. -
Unarmed / Low Tier Melee Players not Listening to Armed Guys
hells high replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't try to act so holy and righteous because you didn't want to ruin his gear by shooting him. If you get held up by fully geared dudes that demand EVERYTHING you might as well go down swinging; chances are they'll usually kill you once your stuff is safely on the ground. -
20 Plus Million Dollars Later...
hells high replied to Hero of Suburbia's topic in General Discussion
If you made 800,000 sales on a promise and some early code you'd take a nice vacation yourself. :P Totally kidding. Cash != insta-development, the updates will come. Remember that Rocket figures the game will be in the alpha stage for a very long time. -
I started to skim, and within a few seconds I picked up on a few things: "Don't tell me its just an alpha" "3 Years" "Incorrect or missing animations" "Dynamical lighting" "Mediocre graphics" These key points literally told me everything I needed to hear. Don't buy into tests in the future, and have a nice day. Edit: "i have to claim myself as the winner of this discussion" Pff haha.

Its still alpha, and there's a ton of stuff planned for the future. When you have to spend 2 or more days scouring the map with increased zombie AI and numbers for parts for your car you might have a different attitude towards the game artificially getting harder. :P Also, I can't speak for anyone on the team, but so far the general vibe I've been getting is that the game seems to stray away from this sort of artificial difficulty. Its been my understanding that they want the players to create the experiences instead of the game. Instead of getting geared up and just hanging out, try some player interaction. Head to the coast to help/hinder some newbies, try to make some friends or even some enemies. Have a bit of fun, [cheesy] this is your story. [/cheesy]

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
hells high replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
And you are missing the point that the developers don't want to add one because they don't find it conducive to the experience. So you have to do it yourself. Since you seem adamant not to use an object to hold W why not try something like AutoHotKey to create a macro? Then you can literally make your own autorun key and its not exactly rocket science to do so. Like I said, overcome. -
I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
hells high replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Do yourself a favor, act like a real PC gamer and come up with your own solution. Make a macro, or find something to hold the key down. We are a proud and strong people because we have the power to overcome. -
Combat mechanics are essentially the same in the engine guys, and the things Dslyecxi covers are fairly universal: the biggest in DayZ's case being situational awareness. Most people die because they weren't fully paying attention and got caught off guard. Honestly for most of the positioning and movement topics he talks about you could replace the footage with DayZ and it would make perfect sense.

I missed the poll, but I would definitely like to see a lot more of the ex-soviet weapons. Guns like the VZ58 are very popular with civilians (like here in Canada), because you can't own a full on AK in many places. Plus it fits the setting. Smaller bolt action and common ranch/hunting rifles would be cool in various calibers that make sense. I'd feel much more like a survivor with a .270 running iron sights than a Kriss Vector with ten mags and an ACOG, but everyone likes toys to work towards. :P

Zombies should have MUCH more HP than humans
hells high replied to andrestor's topic in General Discussion
You seem to forget that zombies aren't fully implemented or realized yet, as the idea is to increase their numbers and add spawn rates. Before suggesting that we turn them into walking brick-shit-houses lets see what happens when their numbers multiply. -
PvE Server - Killed by a Human
hells high replied to Aurentius Maximus™'s topic in General Discussion
From what I've read from people involved in the forums (moderation/administration) you aren't allowed to enforce zero-pvp rules at the current stage of testing. I can't vet this as I have no interest or power in the server management but I tend to believe team members. A lot of people seem to think that encouraging players to not shoot someone in the face for no reason is the same thing, but that is besides the point. There are still some that forget this is an alpha test, and the point is to test the game under normal circumstances. Once private servers and whatnot come along people will be free to create 5 slot servers for their pals to dick around in. But until then, they'll just have to suck it up.
