    How do/can servers MAKE money?

Some hosters have a neat donation area that only credits the cash towards the next server bill. You don't really make money that way but you do get a hand with the next server bill.

Balota Book Exchange - Seattle - Hardcore

Hey guys! The current billing cycle is coming to a close (9 days left). Starting this server was a bit of an experiment to see how a west coast hardcore would go down, and just to give me a place to play. The response has been great and the server is constantly so full that I often have a hard time getting in myself! However I don't know how long I can keep it running on my own, as $100 a month is a relatively big expense. So if you really enjoy the server, would like to see it continue, AND have a bit of extra cash that you would like to donate, please head over to the Multiplay Clan-Pay area by clicking my signature. Any little bit would help keep the Balota Book Exchange open for all your book, bean, and bullet needs! This money all goes right to the Clan-Pay account and is directly credited towards the next server bill. Thanks again for playing everybody! Also don't forget to join the Steam group! Cheers, HH
  4. That seemed like an unnecessarily abrasive post. The title explained exactly what the the process was before you even got in here, so why make such an obvious, bullheaded statement? Also it's been like, 2 dollars for a vast majority of the past few years and has provided hundreds upon hundreds of hours of fun for most people. Just... just get it. Build a contraption or play gamemodes... just... just get it.
  5. Why does it need to be things players notice? The players will notice everything in the released version, we're here to test and all the things you notice are already working pretty well (ie I'm guessing you were talking about instant gratification items like weapons and hats and food which are all pretty easy to implement now that the groundwork is there). Its the uynderlying systems that tend to fuck shit up. Wait until the game is finished before complaining about lacking features.

    Kicking for Glitching?

Hey all, So someone that was playing on my server added me to alert me that someone was talking in global, and doing it intentionally. I joined and saw them spamming hilarious lines like "fartnipple" in typed. So I kicked them. They came back in: So I kicked them again and they added me to Steam: Though I'm wondering if I am actually right here. Obviously they were exploiting a broken system in the game (which will be going on the bug tracker if it isn't already) and just generally annoying the players (not to mention acting like a 4 year old), but I'd like to know others' take on this. He didn't really seem like he was doing it to gain an advantage like the rules stipulate, but he was abusing a bug. Cheers, HH
  7. I'll just copy and paste.

Did you really put in heart attacks?

Maybe you should learn a little bit more about cardiac arrest. Trauma such as blunt forces to the chest, gunshot wounds, and most importantly extreme blood loss, can all cause cardiac arrest. Its incredibly common in ER rooms, you just don't hear about it the same way you do about someone dropping dead from heart disease. A circulatory blockage is merely ONE of the ways bloodflow to the heart can be restricted.

    Kicking for Glitching?

Okay, I get it now. Yup.

    Kicking for Glitching?

Sorry I'm not going to tell everyone that views the topic how to exploit an annoying glitch. Its well documented on the bug tracker and the steps to reproduce it have nothing to do with the conversation. There is no "evidence" being presented, there is asking if exploiting these types of glitches its a rightfully kickable offense. Only reason I didn't censor his name as well is because he was acting like an asshat.

    When do we get cars?

Not soon enough to start worrying about it now.

    My Charakter was deleted

Game is still in an alpha state, so you'll have to expect these sorts of character deletions as bugs are fixed and mechanics are changed.

Books ? why they exist ?

To flesh out the world, make it seem like a living (well, not really but the pun is kinda nice so I'll just go with it) breathing place where people once lived.
  14. It doesn't say anything except that you care about another player's experience, and that you'd hate being killed the same way yourself. Its a video game and morality as nothing to do with it. Is it a bad thing to feel bad? No, it just means you view another player's experience as something tangible. It doesn't make you a "pussy" either because, like above, its a video game. Anyone that says otherwise is probably a dumb ass that never grew up and carries that kind of schoolyard nonsense in their mental baggage as a defense mechanism. (Or they are indeed still going through that phase. Then we can only hope they outgrow it and the world will be a better place for it.) I have never killed anyone that hasn't tried to kill me first. In the mindset of the world of DayZ, it was self defense and my character would have died otherwise so I feel no guilt.

Has Rocket set an ETA when tent spawns will be fixed?

I heard on a Sacriel stream that the programmers were looking into why certain buildings just don't spawn any loot.
  16. That the game turns into Epoch and strays from being a survival game, where everyone is running around with PKMs (but but but they are slav weapons so it makes sense!!! :''c), hi powered anti material rifles, and military humvees mounted with miniguns.

    300 Round Box Question

It's also a bug that you can fire all 60 rounds in two clipped together stanags without swapping between them. ^^ Not a super huge deal ATM.

Persistent Container AKA Tents? coming next update

He said it on Sacriel's stream the other day. Maybe OP was confused. http://youtu.be/uQMI-0y2oPE?t=3m43s Also a backpack is a perfectly logical stash container, if I had a bag full of food and extra supplies I'd stick it somewhere and if I needed to take off quick I could grab it and go. Hunters, survivalists, and even soldiers often keep bags of supplies out in the field.

    Pretty game is pretty.

    Sure is.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

The point is its supposed to be a survival game, where you have to struggle. If I want to run around in humvees and suvs mounted with miniguns and rockets I'd play Epoch or Wasteland, or fucking ARMA. I just don't get why people want this to become a combined arms combat simulator when the engine its built on already has that.

    Creepy Animal Masks Please

I tend to shy away from people that wear masks, but it'd be pretty sweet to don some day of the dead masks.

    SKS grenade launcher

They're pretty rare, plus you can't just pop em off with a live round. ^^ You need special blanks and all that.
  23. Not going to pretend I carry what I do to look like a nice guy. I do tend to stay away from more military gear because I tend to immediately become suspicious of those types of people. I'm a lone wolf that wants to be able to blend in to the environment and put up a fight when I need to. I also carry surplus medical supplies to be able to help a fellow survivor should they need it.

ya gone and dunnit now! :emptycan: rip this worthless thread, 2014-2014
  25. Long hauls = gun on back. Going near areas where players are likely to be found = gun in hands. Its not "threatening" to carry a firearm in the zombie apocalypse (especially in such an unrealistically amoral and hostile apocalypse as DayZ). Some of my most friendly and beneficial encounters started with both of us having our guns out, or reminding the other before making visual contact that we have a firearm. Its pointing it at someone or acting sketchy that sets off alarms.
