You, you and you. You are all part of the problem.
Butters (DayZ) replied to The Killing Joke's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
bandit skins weren't broken, and they weren't arbitrary. everyone knows the criteria for getting one. if they glowed in the dark, then that wasn't a very good skin. whether the skins make a difference to how you play, or who you trust, etc, is not a universal, that's simply different people playing different ways, and that seems to be the focus of a lot of threads: why everyone else in the multiplayer is a problem; so the game allows for many things, that's why we love it, but people should be only doing This or That, and those that don't are why it sucks. The Killing Joke, personally i agree with your summation, but for the bulk of what you are saying i don't see that the game 'agrees'. it's pointless to have skins that don't reflect the few stats/states we have, unless you believe the elaborations on 3d gaming are just eye candy. in any other game i would expect some visual difference between a survivor and a predator, that's as ordinary and commonplace in a game as particle blood when you bleed, or doors swinging open when they are opened. there is a limited range of what you can do in the mod- that is its strength- and it WOULD be great if something about your state or activity could be reflected. because the gameplay is small in scope, i think it can be done. so i'm glad humanity is still somewhere in the works. -

glad to hear humanity won't be abandoned, just shelved; some people don't like it, sure, but not every game mechanic can thrill everyone. and i hear the bandit skin were a real pain to implement.. -
What was your dumbest death?
Butters (DayZ) replied to Bobosaur's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
my first death: death by not reloading. saw the guy running, crouching, pointing at me and still, not reloading. goddam its embarrassing. -

Let's talk about medicine/physiology of DayZ
Butters (DayZ) replied to HrcAk47's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
HrcAk47 has made an excellent post, scaling food isn't a hard argument, and military meals is a fggn great idea. particularly like the multiple use painkillers- yes, the pain should return! you should need more! multiple use would give you an inventory advantage, but having the pain return should balance that out! heheh, yeah, that would be a kicker, huh? spamming chat trying to find Type O? i'll add a couple things that came to me immediately starting the game: -soda dehydrates you. in a game world with running water, stores, etc, you take it for granted soda represents something, but in this sparse world it stood out more as SODA. -a few days with less food and your stomach shrinks= you are less hungry. you get a 'normal' sized meal again, and the next day you are constantly hungry all over again, until it shrinks back. i'm not suggesting these as additions, just throwing it out there. there's never *really real* realism, after all-- i don't imagine morphine improves your aim in real life? and i wouldn't like to have to search towns for a can opener. -
Why does this game have so many idiots?
Butters (DayZ) replied to Kirvin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
you're taking the hard road Kirvin, you gotta know that. there are plenty who would watch your back if they knew what you were doing. a lot of these idiots, well, they're just ignorant about what goes on. ignorance is a better than stupidity, stupid means you aren't even capable of learning what to do :p there are so many reasons you are getting shot: -if you came here to shoot zombies in an excellent simulation game, then you've probably only done pve before. if your main interaction with the world is your gun, then sooner or later newbies will try interacting with you. it's like ppl clicking on popups, they do it just cause you're there. -or, they didn't go through boot camp, so they haven't yet gotten to shoot an avatar trying to help them. -another reason would be that they have no connection with the world/game cause they *are* new, and it doesn't yet matter to them what they do. if they stay, they may change their behavior. -or they're just jerks as well as idiots. -they're anarchists experimenting with their philosophy in a realistic combat-survival arena, and they want to assess the social/political impact of denying vital medicines, as well as what impact that has on the society, and find the limits of their own conscience-- and whether morality is inherent or learned. i've gotten the two most 'educated' ppl i know in real life to try multiplayers-- people that were interested in the mechanics of gaming and physical simulation-- and they don't understand that the other avatars are powered by real people until you explain it to them, even though you have clearly told them many times what multiplayer means. i think it's awesome that you're trying, though, i would readily play a support role as part of the mod. -
i kind of agree night is fine, but.. a few eternally burning fires on the map could be a good idea. realistic? no. game? yes. they'd make great markers, and how players deal with them would be interesting. really only a few though, like 3 on the whole map.

sure i'd like female zombies, and female player models/zeds, and i think zombie kids would be creepy, but i don't want kids in the game at all. playable kids, i'm against that, that would give you a visual advantage. pack horse kids even less. Few games have kids, for many reasons, and when they do you usually can't interact with them in any way. and as for realism, that's sort of a blanket argument- soda causing dehydration would be realistic too :p

IF this was an actual game...
Butters (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
the game already costs money, but not a lot of money, so yeah, that's fine, so long as its around the same price, that wouldn't be an unexpected cost. if a ftp and ptp versions can exist together, that seems to be the way to go these days. what ptp game hasn't gone ftp? is anyone these days shocked that ftp games have pay models too? 4 or 6 month plans seem good. studio developed with community feedback- community designed games tend to lack.. design studio has the server! big servers! kickstart as needed. subscription could be a kickstarter premium. as DePessimist says above, pay game community is better usually. more demands the game makes in hardware, bandwidth, cost, the more earnest the people playing. of course you don't want to shut people out just for the sake of shutting people out, but a purely free offering is going to get players that just don't care bout nuthin. -
