    1.7.2.4 Huge Graphic Bugs unplayable

I have tried flush and beta downgrading (had to give up Sixlauncher for that), all to no avail though. I'm gonna try and play around with the graphics settings... I have this even right after starting to play (not just after an hour or so), so far all airfields and some towns plus Chernogorsk are heavily affected.... So all the interesting places are partially or completely off limits now, as I just can't see anything anymore. :( Edit: I just tried it at an airfield, and changing the graphics options actually does something. While it didn't get rid of the problem entirely, setting "Object Detail" lower in the advanced video properties made the problem less and less prominent with every notch down. Also, reducing shadow quality did a similar thing. However, behaviour is not entirely deterministic I would say, lol. I changed terrain quality from very high to normal or something and then the entire screen was garbled. Changing it back didn't help, I had to change the object detail again to kind of fix it. Well, yeah. At least with my current settings, affected areas seem to be playable, as those polygons just pop up every now and then, but they don't block my entire vision that badly anymore. Better than nothing I'd say.

Not just Radeons, I have GTX 580s, and the bug. I tried Shift+"-" and then typed in "flush", and it did flush the engine. However, this did not yield any positive results. Maybe I'll have to revert to an older ArmA II Beta then..

    I just giggled.

Into the mind of a bandit.

Actually, I'm a total beginner 5 or 6 days into the game. My current character will see his 3rd day alive today, which is a HUGE success for me. I had the unlikely luck to find a Ghillie suit, but I'm quite afraid somebody might just shoot me because they might be thinking that a guy in a Ghillie suit must be dangerous and probably a murderer - which I am absolutely not. Yesterday I got shot by a guy with some full auto as soon as I spotted him. I did not shoot back, but run! He shot me several times, I passed out while running and almost bled to death. Down to 750 blood. While being passed out the guy stood right over me, but did not finish me off. I dunno. When i regained conciousness, I ran like hell, but he did not kill me, even though he could have. I am not sure what happened exactly, but my assumption is that he must've thought that a guy in a Ghille suit would kill him for sure, so he opened fire? I have my Mic off, so I couldn't shout "Friendly", and I was too het up to use Text Comms.. I'm not sure if it is good for me to have that suit. But I would never kill somebody else, not even for food or the best equipment or something. I just wouldn't. Only murdered one guy in the beginning of the game, when I had just started (regret this) and killed a bandit who shot at me. I would so like to see a friendly face, but usually I don't dare use Direct Comms, because I fear that 99% of people are just murderers.. Am I right? I would like to think I'm not. Also I don't like players who can't RPG a bit and feel the atmosphere of the game around them, and act accordingly. Some people obviously cannot do that or don't want to, no idea...

I guess in a real zombie apocalypse, somebody in his situation actually MIGHT think about suicide, should be a valid option to be able to kill yourself I would say. ;)

I don't have a screenshot ready, but is this the bug where you get single-colored polygons dance wildly around on the screen? Cause that's what I'm getting on certain spots in DayZ. I'll try the Shift+"-" and "flush" <enter> next time when I see this.

New players don't want a negative experience of Dayz!

You could try foreign servers, but ping will be bad of course. I tend to connect to servers with around 20 or less people, that's still somewhat manageable, if you don't push it (Elektrozavodsk and Chernogorsk WILL be death traps of course). By the way, seeing a "9999" ping in SixLauncher is not a problem, please connect to that server still, and check pings in the lobby. The values from the launcher are mostly bogus it seems. Also, servers geographically close to you are most likely to be in the correct timezone. You can also see the timezone of the server in most server names directly (something like GMT-8 in the server name). Servers with more people are manageable. You just need to be very careful and a little bit lucky.

According to how some people here seem to see it, I am a quite "weak" player. Pretty much a n00b, rarely play MP shooters, mostly just single player stuff anyway. So i sucked really hard when I started playing DayZ. The controls are awful. The engine (the 3D renderer mind you, not the simulation) is a piece of trash. One time I tried to swim towards some iron stairs in some harbour cause I thought I could climb up there. Broke my legs! rofl. So lots of bugs too. But the sensation of helplessness, the constant paranoia, or the rush when you see somebody else, trying to hide and wait for them to leave.. It's so freaking awesome. I like that this game is hard. You feel so greatly rewarded when getting just a gun or surviving a fight with lots of Zombies. Once I killed 20 of them in a single fight on the edge of Elektrozavodsk.. It got me down to 4k blood with broken bones. Just by dusk i managed to CRAWL to the damn hospital (hiding from another player there, who got himself killed by Zombies I think), and got my first shot of morphine. That was such a GREAT experience. Followed another player that had entered the city to the supermarket. He shot a Zombie, and got rushed by a horde of them, drew them away. I got in and fetched my first matches ever, plus Alice pack and Ghillie suit (!). This was worth 4 days of perma-death! The game being so ridiculously hard makes it even more rewarding when you manage to survive and get better at it... I pretty much suck at this stuff, but I'm AGAINST making it any easier! I would even take the band aid and the painkillers out of the starting gear so you have to be even more cautious in the beginning. The permanent fear of death and that adrenaline rush is great stuff!

What do youy do if you see a player

Hmm, i never use any form of ingame VoIP stuff, so my microphone is off. I only use it for Skype when playing with RL friends. I guess that's bad then, text chat is probably too slow? So far I have sticked to staying away from players. Got shot by sniper twice, one time I dropped dead immediately, the second time I got hit I kept running around in pain and was bleeding, was almost blind and in the end bled to death. I have seen one player prone once, and he didn't react to my attempts to communicate, and he didn't move for minutes, so I shot him. I kinda regret that though.

Initial reactions to the first 20+ hours or so playing Day-Z.

I have to say this mod is ridiculously hard. But that's what seems to get me hooked. I have played for 3 days now and already many lives have passed. In the beginning I basically died all the time because I was still struggling with controls and I had no idea of Zombie behaviour etc. I think my most successful character so far was equipped with a few soda cans, 2 cans of food (sardines and beans), a Makarov PM I found in some village plus a Colt M1911 I got together with food from some church. I think i lived for 2-3 hours and only died because I overestimated myself while trying to approach some warehouse. Shouldn't have packed so many magazines in my Alice backpack, So before I could reload properly (after shooting 3-4 Zombies), I got my bones broken and got myself eaten afterwards. There was another life with a TON of luck where I found a map and watch in some store plus an AK-74 (!!) with three magazines in some tower. Stupid me, I climbed on some warehouse roof, and fell off, LOL! Died, dropped to death with all my cool new equipment. ;) But I have also been running around for an entire hour without finding anything but water. And I found water only just before dehydration was about to start, and I had to risk my life to get it, was quite desparate already. So you'll need some luck and sometimes need to risk your life to get food / drink I guess. So far, handling of the mod is VERY unintuitive (I also had no idea how to use a hatchet or flashlight, or even open doors), the game engine is quirky and slowish and everything basically screams "Alpha version", tons of bugs and many servers that don't seem to work. But the survival thing combined with realism and the wide open game world is still really addictive, so I'll keep playing! My aim is to be able to at least hunt, grill my own meat and maybe navigate through the world using a map+watch+landmarks or even map+compass+landmarks. We'll see. I like it so far, even though I have no REAL success atm. ;)

    can this computer run DayZ

That's because you have pretty perfect motion blur between all frames in a 24p movie, so you wouldn't see any stutter. Just pause a movie scene with lots of motion going on, and you'll see it. Some game engines implement motion blur through pixel shaders too, and yes it helps, but just not as much. So usually you want 40-70fps in a game engine, as the human eye can see more than 60fps even (think about the pain you feel when looking at a 60Hz CRT monitor - that's because your eye is trying to differentiate between frames at that rate. With 100Hz, everything will be smoothed out - as this refresh rate is higher than your eyes.) btw., I'm playing in 2560x1600 with a GTX 580 3GB SLI since yesterday, and even that machine can get low fps in DayZ on Ultra, especially with FSAA turned up. So i would assume that it could be a good idea to go for a single GTX 680 if you wanna play at 1920x1200 or maybe 1680x1050 or something?
