It's the brain. Vision is very much a learned ability. The brain will compensate and actually fill in what it believes should be in the FOV To the Dev team... keep up the good work, keep those updates coming

Good point. I may be the only fat bottom boy left.

Shooting system for the standalone
shadowjack replied to Blobmaster's topic in New Player Discussion
That is only valid if you have been bitten by a radioactive spider. -
I am not very smart when it comes to the ways of hackers. My Fight instinct is much stronger than flight so i will shoot the first thing i see assuming that IS the hacker. I know better now but its a hard habit to break. Last time it happened was just after the combat timer was put in and after shooting i had to just lay there and wait ... and die and scream at myself for not just logging out INSTEAD of shooting. Hell first couple times it happened i never even thought hacker and just figured it was a bug.

I voted no if for no other reason than if it makes some one want to jump off a bridge and have to wait 10min for their character to bleed out... game is working as intended

Bases (and new barricades), spawning, friend spawns, NPCs (merchants)
shadowjack replied to JayTee13's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
We all ready have in game currency ... bullets, blood and beans Choosing where i spawn? only ONLY if i can choose to spawn next to anyone who lobbies for easy buttons. :) -
I recognize 2 types of zombie/infected ... threat and no threat They have better things to do with their time.

It affects me when the designers spend time on putting in optional features in an effort to make the game all things to all people instead of keeping the focus on developing the vision of what Dayz is. It is an indirect affect. People flow to the lowest common denominator. Easy buttons will drain the player base away from what DayZ is. Away from the Game Rocket wants to develop. Sure some % of customers will be lost ... thats ok, let them go. Many will step up and adapt to what the game is. The community will have a common bond in that everyone is playing by the same rules. As Rocket has stated, he has a unique opportunity to explore his vision. As long as DayZ is a quality product the people will buy the game BECAUSE it has a steep learning curve, BECAUSE it doesn't hold your hand, BECAUSE it is the anti-game.

Rifle slings - hard stance/soft stance.
shadowjack replied to dallas's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Good stuff here. I am big on ideas that force hard choices and critical thinking especially in tense moments. If i may be self indulgent for a minute i especially like the thoughts on the MP5. It is my favorite weapon in the game but i don't use it as much as id like because the game doesn't allow for its obvious advantages over weapons with greater firepower. -
Wasted time? REALLY? If you did not get any enjoyment out of the time spent getting to whatever point you got to before dieing and starting over ... well all i can say is don't you have something better to do?

friendly fire should be an option on servers
shadowjack replied to whatsmynameagain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The option is ... play a game that does not allow friendly fire. You put in options like that and you are no longer playing DayZ Here are some options you can try that are in the spirit of DayZ 1. planning and practice will cut down your mistakes 2. If you are unsure of your target, don't pull the trigger. 3. accept that shit happens -
One of the core features of the game is you and your belongings are only as safe as you can make them. This is anarchy. The only rules being the moral code your character lives by. All things at risk at all times. If you change that then you are no longer playing DayZ. Blasphemy on the forums? nah. In game? O HELL YES.

This came to mind reading the thread Rocket started asking for opinions on removing the cross hairs. I think game developers these days are too concerned with pleasing everyone and end up over soliciting the masses on what and how we want to see in a game. The result is we end up with to many dumbed down cookie cutter games. I would hate to see that happen here Remove the easy buttons, keep the learning curve steep. Don't sell out. I came to the mod because i had the impression i would want to tear my hair out and poke cold blunt objects into my eyes trying figure out how to play. Took a good month and countless deaths before the bleeding stopped. What i am saying is keep the vision of the anti game, stay the course. I really believe the market is there. The SA will succeed. The mod sure as hell has. Don't sell out to those that whine for the easy button. let the game be what it is supposed to be and let us players take it or leave it.

Wasn't specifically directing my comments at the devs here but more the industry as a whole. I agree its about finding those nuggets ... long as they fit into the game plan and you don't go changing the plan to fit the nuggets. Yeah money fucks shit up but if u have a market and put out a good product ... The market is there for what Rocket wants to do, all he has to do is deliver. I believe he will.

Group Spawning and Buildable Respawn Bunkers!
shadowjack replied to Cobs's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@ Cobs Some good stuff here and i appreciate the effort but have to call exception to 3 points. O hell no. You are DEAD!!! Not asleep or in a coma, DEAD. you should have no awareness of where you were or what you had. you DIED. If i had my way ... when you die so does any stash you may have had. What you are wanting is mitigation of friendly fire. This goes completely against the anti game theme. Situational awareness can degrade very quickly in tense situations. This is why a smaller well organized and coordinated team can take down larger numbers and greater firepower. This isn't a walk in the park with the wife and kids. No penalty either, penalty is you killed your buddy. -
Make it harder to kill both zombies and players
shadowjack replied to hogscraper's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Sniping isn't the problem. The problem is laziness on the part of players not wiling to do what needs to be done to counter snipers. Might I suggest recon and/or evasive maneuvers? That said, in my oppinon the mod is overrun with high end weapons. A cap of some kind or/and i would favor removal of players stash upon death. That would help keep inventory saturation down on all items. -
worth repeating " You must load the magazine with ammunition and then it is considered an attachment to the weapon. The quantity and condition of your magazines will be particularly important in the standalone. Look after them!"

HORSES x 5

The problem i have with servers like this is they set an unrealistic expectation for the SA. At least i hope it is unrealistic assuming the SA will follow the anti game expectation that many of the rest of us have. If these new folks playing Dayz mod light have no intention of migrating to the SA then no big deal i guess. Otherwise it is setting up a potential rift in the community that doesnt have to be there.

And the average Joe Schmo is going to know how to equip this armor properly right? Forget about armor lets just make everyone superheros.

Optional team based friendly fire.
shadowjack replied to whiteboy greg's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The slippery slope starts when the game allows the first easy button to be played. You want no friendly fire, next guy wants cross hairs, then its 3rd person ........... on and on .................. until .............. flagged PvP. End of the vision, end of the Anti Game This idea does not fit here.
