I 100% agree with you. A chance for a trip/fall/injury while running is a must have. There should be few if any "no brainer" choices. Nearly everything we do can have a negative unintended consequence.

how to handle property - the issue when being offline
shadowjack replied to joe_mcentire's topic in Suggestions
I wouldn't say it is artificial. Rather it is temporary. You possess "it" until someone bigger/stronger/faster/smarter/better armed/the environment/an opportunist takes it from you Note: added oppotunist, CraigChrist gets the credit ... and beans -
how to handle property - the issue when being offline

I think some folks need to get over their gear fetish. If i had my way when you die your tents, vehicles, stash, ect die with you. Otherwise the game becomes overrun with elite/rare gear -
If jumping is added then a % chance to turn/break ankle also needs to be added. Possible a knee injury, or fall and hit your head and become unconscious or disoriented for "x" amount of time. Or how about an accidental weapon discharge and shoot yourself in the leg/foot/ear unless you have said weapon properly stowed.

It is a limitation of the Engine ... BUT is it really an unrealistic limitation? I think not. What I find weird is mashing a key or two and having an inventory item magically appear in my hand .... THAT's WEIRD.

While you make some valid points. Many of them are being addressed for the SA. You are aware this is a mod right? I have to question if or how much you have played the mod as many of your objections seem canned if not inaccurate. It is as if you took a list of negative talking points and re-posted them without bothering to check your facts I challenge you to come back 6 - 12 months after release of the SA and give it a real go.

Levels and skills are to MMOish for me but if skills (never levels NEVER) were to be implemented "as you do" is the only way. Only if what skills any one character can learn are hidden and random. No character can learn them all.

The "fix" is your perspective. Do not, i repeat ... DO NOT fall in love with your gear. Look at it this way ... I just dropped my "prized possession of choice" on the ground and it broke beyond repair. I can sit and cry about it or suck it up and move on. Now repeat after me ... "if i found it once i can find it again". FIXED Feel better now? I do :)

Had not extended the thought beyond the game but yeah tis true what you say.

Did you just mention the greatest board game ever? Been to long since i tossed them bones. The idea is interesting and worth consideration. I am waiting to see how the more harsh survival mechanics will affect player interactions.

Safety Deposit Box, Supply Drops and Crowbar Idea
shadowjack replied to Draco122's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The trade off would be a small level of security in having a few items in the box. I agree not worth it. My logic is this ... Have you ever traveled and had limited space to pack what you need? You can pack more loose items in the same space than you can if you put some items in container A, more items in container B and so on. Each container is going to have wasted space and over less overall flexibility. If you have ever done a 10 day wilderness backpack trip you would know what i mean. -
Any tips on how to keep a helcopter?

exactly ... Black Hawk down in Cherno -
I favor some type of humanity system i just don't see how it can be done The way i see it perhaps the single biggest factor to ones humanity has to be intentions. I see no possible way to measure this. Therefore any humanity system will be fundamentally flawed

Safety Deposit Box, Supply Drops and Crowbar Idea
shadowjack replied to Draco122's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Think about it ... It has to do with available space. loose packed items will take less space that items inside containers. You start placing boxes inside backpacks and you loose available space. If you carry those boxes outside your pack then you end up with extra bulk that will limit movement. -
SOMEWHERE TO STORE ITEMS IN THE STANDALONE
shadowjack replied to THEKIDINABOX's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
What you don't understand here is that one of the core concepts of Day Z (and the SA) is that of player driven content and all things at risk at all times. The safest storage you can have is what you carry on your character and how well you can protect what you carry. If you stray from this concept you are no longer playing DayZ -
Safety Deposit Box, Supply Drops and Crowbar Idea
shadowjack replied to Draco122's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You have the inventory management part backwards. the boxes should take up more slots than storage they offer. Unless you have an encumbrance system because those strong boxes should be a bitch to haul around. -
Wow ... so yall are telling me those somewhat annoying dots are a feature? Does the size of the dots indicate proximity? Wait ...dont answer that, i don't need another "feature" to get addicted to. Its been tough enough staying away from 3rd person.

I dunno perhaps im not thinking right but i don't think much of anything would be found in barracks OR at any military site. Wouldn't those places be among the first places survivors/refugees would flock to? If overrun or infection spread/outbreak those that could would grab what they can and split. Be more likely gear be spread throughout the adjoining countryside

What's with the infatuation with radiation? (not just here but may other suggestions) Where did the radiation come from? In all the infected/zombie lore that i have read i don't recall any of them being radioactive. Was the area nuked to destroy the infected? If so where is the devastation? Even a small tactical nuke can have a several km blast radius depending on the altitude of detonation. For me the whole radiation thing does not fit. Same with mutants. Give me lions and tigers and bears o my :)

Have you ever had a good play?
shadowjack replied to samzerks88's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
^THIS!!!^ I have been very entertained just watching from afar the behavior of others and then choosing to interact. (or not) Even though i have never teamed up with anyone for more than an hour i do get a thrill out of the random encounters and will put myself in situations where they can happen. -
I have always felt guilty when my blood count is low running through a town eating everything i find. What a freakin glutton I am. We need a calorie counter in game. You eat to many beans you get fat. You get fat you move slower and run shorter distances. Maybe even develop knee and back problems over time. The dude who downs 16 cans of beans to get his blood count up, then rides around in his SUV all day only to stop at his favorite loot site, to then plop on the ground with his oversize boom stick and wait for poor scavengers to come around will get fat. The guy who walks/runs everywhere, only eats when he is hungry wont get fat.
