Neutral safe zones that physically prevent combat
shadowjack replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Two things would cause me to walk away from the game Safe zones Safe storage To the OP ... get off the damn computer if you wanna socialize -
Server hopping has gotten worse. (actuall analysis, not a whine thread)
shadowjack replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
Don't know if this is doable but how about instead of stopping you from logging into a different server for x amount of time. If you do change servers (say within a 30 minute span) a swarm of 4 - 6 zeds spawn in with you. Lets put some serious skill in play if you gonna be a hopper. -
I have never experienced the rampant deathmatch that some folks claim. Pure and simple it comes down to 1 of 2 playstyles. Either you seek the deathmatch or you make yourself available to be a victim of the deathmatch. Either way it is a choice The potential for deathmatch will always be there. It is a part of the nature of the game, the nature of open world PvP. It does not have to be the major focus of anyone's game.

So what is the excuse for the poor performance now?
shadowjack replied to scaramoosh's topic in General Discussion
It very well "can" have to do with GPU. Just because one card is better on paper does not necessarily translate to better performance in any given game. To many variables. I know of many instances where an older, lower spec card will outperform newer/higher in a given scenerio. I promised my self i would not play the alpha card. But yeah give them time to work with the GPU folks -
All you KOS whiners pay close attention to what this guy says. Learning to profile other players can take you a long way when choosing who and when to engage a stranger.

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer
shadowjack replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
There is no punishment because there is no "system" until we have a finished product. -
Tell me what is wrong with being the (according to you) "dullest game ever"? It is not dull for many of us. To us dull is the cookie cutter mmo's that fill the interwebs. Will DayZ appeal to a large enough audience to sustain itself? maybe not, time will tell. I would rather see it die being true to the anti-game theme than see it morph into just another ho hum time sink. Give the vision the time it needs to evolve. If the finished product is still dull to point it's continuance cannot be sustained then so be it. I for one would have no problem paying a monthly sub if that’s what it takes to keep the "vision" alive.

Guns should be rare. Ammo even more so. I would like to feel like a rich mofo if i have a loaded 45 and a fully loaded spare mag. A functional Mosin with a few rounds and I would be king.

Let's be honest we are all killers.. Try your hardest not to lie. Thanks
shadowjack replied to capt. beefsteak's topic in General Discussion
I am not a nice person. (just ask my wife) i am not a killer as you want to define one. Have I had encounters where others died and i walked away? Yes. I did not initiate the violence. I will help others within reason, on my terms and my terms only. On the rare occasion that i may ask for help it is not expected nor do i hold it against you if you say you can't. If that puts me in the minority then GOOD, makes for a better experience for me. -
What Type of Bases do You Want to See in DayZ
shadowjack replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Other. I have no use for a base. (other than to help myself to yours if i have a need) If i can't carry it I dont need it. As long as they never lead to safe storage i am fine with the concept. -
Reward for what? doing what you’re supposed to do? I get it tho. We live in an entitlement society where people expect something for just breathing. If you need bells and whistles and shiny achievements you might be playing the wrong game.

Should they add more military zombies at bases and airfield?
shadowjack replied to DeathbyBurgers's topic in General Discussion
Military zombies? That can fire weapons? KOS zombies!!!! -
A 3rd question, Why didn't you run up and bop him in the chops and then you (the OP) have control of the situation?
-
What are your biggest concerns and fears regarding the near/far future of the game?
shadowjack replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
This "would" be a fear however i have faith in Dean Hall's "my way or the hiway" stance. -
Stupid or not if a glitch (or hacker) gets me i just chalk it up to an act of the Gods. It’s a game, roll with the punches. Walking away from the game is easy when the game is not the central focus in life. You speak of forcing game play. Well everything has rules and limits. We are all forced in some way or another. One thing is for sure. No one forced you to buy into the alpha. (i hope) I do acknowledge that a lengthy timer would be a big deal for many who paid for access not expecting such a drastic change. Then again with any work in progress and with no guarantee they will build the game to suit any particular individual or group you assume the risk in purchasing the alpha. Relax, it won’t happen. The folks at BI are good capitalists and will balance profit with playability that suits a decent size audience. That is something i accept.
-
Exactly, there are very few clear cut no brainer choices. For everything you gain you loose something. As it should be.
-
Only stupid from a marketing standpoint. Truth is the vast majority of gamers do not have the patience or maturity to understand the beauty of having to suffer a consequence for their actions. For me it would increase the immersion and intensity 100 fold. Knowing that i blow it, im am out for a while. The thing i don’t get is don’t any of these "fuck this shit i can't wait" types have something else they could do for x number of hours? Does a single game really become ones entire life? If thats the case ...wow, just WOW. If they did implement some kind of lengthy time penalty, the anti - game title would belong to Dean and company hands down.
-
The OP contends this is not a survival game. I contend this is not even a game as yet. We all hope it will be one day. You want survival? How about you die and you take a 24 hour blow? I would be ok with that.

If Combat Logging is going to be fixed...
shadowjack replied to MagneticToast's topic in General Discussion
Please explain to us how someone having to sit for a 30 second timer before logout makes your DayZ experience shitty? Its as if you advocate 24/7 persistence where your avatar is never out of game. I say lets do it and see who cries first. -
Will there be consequences for your actions?
shadowjack replied to cels's topic in General Discussion
I would favor that, problem is i doubt anyone lives long enough to suffer long term affects. Way back when SA was first announced I had proposed that players who ride in vehicles all the time, then lay in the brush and snipe all day long get fatter and slower than those that carry all they own on their backs and hoof it everywhere. Course then you could say the more athletic types might develop back and knee issues from wear and tear. -
Folks will play the hack card at every opportunity. Most percieved hacks in many games are not hacks at all but glitchs, bugs and sync issues. There will be hackers for as long as there is software and an internet to hack. Best anyone can hope for is a well designed engine with good detection to mitigate the damage. Sometimes i want to smack the whiners more than the hackers.

As has already been said, survival chances are better if you don't surrender. Besides all that weirdo perverted sexual fetish stuff just doesn't have the same appeal on the digital side of the keyboard.

Any piece of clothing you associate with bandits?
shadowjack replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
You ask why I associate female avatar with banditry? Logic and probability based on empirical as well as statistical evidence It is a fact that way more males play gams like this than females. perhaps as high as 85%male/15%female There are always way more female characters than the previous statistic can support. Males play female characters for a variety of reasons, nearly all to gain some type of actual or perceived advantage. It has been my experience that younger males are more likely to play a female character than older more mature males The younger males are more likely to get their kicks from what I call "cheap" pvp (KOS, griefing, ect) I always assume there is a male looking for an advantage behind every female character until proven otherwise. I just realized I have spent way to many words on this reply, im sure you get the gist. It is also possible that I am just all wrong on this. Am I sexist? If I am it isn't due to the above. -

Number one has to be those payday(?) masks (what they have to do with a candy bar is beyond me) A very close second is a female avatar. -
What Alpha Is Supposed To Be (A Discussion On Dev Direction And If The Game Will Ever Be Completed)
shadowjack replied to jovlon's topic in General Discussion
A few points You list 3 options - all very negative - this lack of objectivity shows your intent and pretty much negates anything you say. Well i had a few points but after reading my first point there is no reason to continue.
