Everything that's wrong with DayZ servers in one picture.
Element47 replied to FrostDMG's topic in General Discussion
yes 1 hour restarts are absurd. but its irrelevant. current loot rarity and distribution is tuned to provide players with an overabundance of items for testing purposes, so its pointless anyway. as for all the rest: you do realize that the server tagline is one fo the very few things currently customizable by server owners? they put everything in there to attract players. a title of "noob friendly, no KOS, high loot" will attract both noobs who want easy mode and KOSers who hunt said noobs - "hardcore only" will attract far less people. guess which form of advertising an unscrupulous server hoster will use to lure players in? its not different than every other form of advertising - as much misleading as one can get away with. -
We deserve to have the (rather good imo) description of your video and your conclusion in your original post. you know, to have something 'general discussion'-worthy without having to go to your channel ;)

i meant the exact opposite :) i think that anyone, no matter how skilled in computer gaming, should have a hard time shooting anyone beyond 50m. hence i am not against artificial dispersion, which would reduce proficiency of our avatar, no matter how skilled the player is.
-
but thats the point. the combat in DayZ is the combat of individuals or small groups of untrained laymen, not trained soldiers. fighters in DayZ - in their skill, weapon proficiency, and approach to combat - are far more comparable to somali gangs than to disciplined ranger squads. thus my opinion, that gameplay combat mechanics in DayZ should be modeled after such combat, and not disciplined, high-precision warfare of a modern army. i dont think the scope of DayZ allows for any character to become really proficient in a way comparable to a soldier. so to bring this back on topic at hand, i dont think our dayz character should be good at shooting, and i dont think he should become better at shooting over time. this also means i am not against artificial dispersion - because no matter how skilled you are as a mouse-keyboard jockey, your character shouldnt be able to use military arms as efficiently as a veteran specops soldier - not on first day, and not after two weeks in the wilderness. i am fully in favor of beards and braids as progression though.

look at cartel wars in latin america, look at the taliban, look at the children warriors in africa, look at the gang wars in south central LA - you dont have to be a Fort Benning graduate to be able to kill people with a gun. i agree with the sway though.

I have discovered how to distort space and time in Chernarus+!

well done rick. have you been able to identify other items that exhibit such behaviour? -
(Opinion) The game is more fun with a group/team.
Element47 replied to pacpac's topic in General Discussion
about every multiplayer game is more fun when played with peers than when played alone/with random strangers. that said, listing your achievements is kind of pointless, for two reasons: for one, it is a sandbox, which draws a large portion of its appeal from the freedom (and your own ability) to set your own goals. second, its great that you had fun, but i kind of miss the part of 'actively supporting the development' of the game how many bugs have you documented? how often were you able to reproduce a critical bug listed on the feedback tracker? how often have you identified an issue as solved? yeah. still, gg wp mvp, glad you found a challenge to your uber1337 skillz by indulging with n00bs. -

so about that DayZ dating/matchmaking site...... -
If H1Z1 will have squads and clans at early access why ...

good heavens i would like to unload my whole folder of approval gifs upon you but this would not fare well with the upper echelon. thanks for the voice of reason among the madness. -
only those people complain about current spawnpoints who dont get it that current spawnpoints are not chosen for gameplay reasons but to direct player traffic to certain areas for testing purposes. map balance - properly balancing loot and character spawns - will not begin until well into beta, when all features are completely implemented and working.
-
the issue isnt the hardware. OP insists on running OSX because reasons. explaining the related challenges in regard to rendering APIs, device drives etc. seems pointless here because thread looks like troll/flamebait.
-
this is an excellent post, which deserves more thought and appreciation than i can spare at the moment, as i am working. i will edit my post later to include my take on your suggestions, for the time being take this:
-
if you are willing to invest a few bucks, there are actually ways to play on a Mac....
-
must be troll but i found a new disapproval gif soo... topic gets prolly nommed anyway because flamebait
-
So you spend money on software without prior checking whether it is available for your operating system? And people wonder how mac users got their stigma...

i already feared this features have been removed. ATVs on bridges and skyrocketing on docks are among my most fond memories.

As a WoW player, i feel deeply offended. edit: as long as you can run around pantless and shoot people, there will always be an audience. im not concerned.

i hope those arent deducted from the usual daily bean quota? :O

Welcome to DayZ! dont get attached to your gear and keep your expectations low. Oh, and dont litter Pustoshka with cans, please. beans are the equivalent of likes, karma, reputation and similar concepts on these forums. they are given as sign of agreement, respect or affection, to acknowledge a witty post or to express gratitude. you have a finite amount of beans you can give per day, but i keep forgetting how many those are. the five cans in your profile are not related to the amount you have given, but to the amount you have recieved - im not entirely sure about the calculation though.

alpha, character wipe, impact testing progress, priority of debugging etc
Element47 replied to diuwhysoserious's topic in Suggestions
i have the impression that many think that "testing" is only valid if you can experience the whole game. "testing" can mean merely logging in, thus testing the function and stability of the authentication system under load. "testing" can mean picking up one to three items to test how inventory syncs to hive. your character progression is irrelevant in such context. "testing" can mean just running around cities - not doing anything else besides running - to test client-server sync of player position in complex environments. so please be aware, that your character progression, your gameplay experience, your entertainment have actually very little value at this point. so if you suffer fro a character reset issue - a bug that is not really frequent but recurring now and then - then its unfortunate for you, and important that you report it to the feedback tracker. but its not something extraordinary, and especially nothing that would require secondguessing the development priorities. -
this is so annoying. i've seen some footage from i think Arma3 where there is a fine connecting line from the interaction marker to the object it belongs to, thus clearly indicating which object your interact with. this would make this spots with three doors in range manageable.

finding entertaining gameplay in alpha builds is a rare luck, and not something to expect, or even demand. those who dont enjoy the game currently - and especially those whose feedback is limited to complaining about their expectations not being met, are truely well-advised to retire from the game until a later date. as for changes, we have seen major ones in recent months - even though the (imho) most significant of them didnt affect our gameplay as testers: the major expansion of the development team, and the decision to replace the rendering engine. there are several points worth critique, but neither the development pace nor the transparency of the development process are among them. we have seen big changes in the requirements and manifest - the network/server architecture, the switch to steam infrastructure, most recently the decision to change the renderer. all these have been communicated clearly to the community, and have - obviously - trashed any roadmap existing prior to each respective change. merging three dev teams/studios into one and bringing everyone into one workflow similarly has costed a lot of time. any and all of the issues have been promptly communicated to the community, be it on twitter, reddit, devblog or through the community team here in the forums. if you're frustrated with the performance of the game, its entertainment value, or gameplay/content progress, dont shit on the game or the devs. they are not to blame for false expectations if you encounter a bug - try to reproduce it, document it, and provide a concise report to the feedback tracker, including any relevant files like screenshots or dxdiag report file. feel free to discuss it here, to lament it, but again - please dont shit on it. and to the other party: considering the amount of copies sold, and the hype the game has recieved online, we totally should not be surprised about people coming here with high expectations. stop shoving 'alpher! hurrdurr" in their faces. yes, it gets repetitive, but keep calm and refer them to the abundantly available infos to set their perspective straight. we have quite a diverse community here: milsim diehards, hardcore survivalists, MLG PvPers, sandbox carebears, etc. everyone of us has an own vision of what this game could and should become, and obviously most of us will have to compromise or face disappointment. try to keep this in mind.

i generally like the idea that your backpack model isnt static, but changes depending whether its empty of stuffed - or whether you carry a tent or not. this should go well with this suggestion i just found: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/183611-empty-backpack-models-different-carriable-containers/ its especially awesome because you could visually identify whether someone is potentially worth robbing - and if it affects stamina and movement, whether you have a mobility advantage in combat or not.

Empty backpack models + different carriable containers.

thanks forums search, came to support and give beans. crossreferencing here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/198585-tents-carried-on-back-with-back-pack/ -
"MULTI-TIER DONATOR PERKS: SAFE CAMPS W/ VEHICLES - CUSTOM LOADOUT - RESERVED SLOTS - 100.000 VEHICLES SELFBLOODBAG AUTOREPAIR AUTOREFULE SELFDICKSUCK SPWAN W/ NVG, GPS AND 2xDMR YOLOSWAG420 ::: PAYPAL ACCEPTED :::" - thats not the survival experience i expect from the game. server hopping is done by people who want instant gratification, private hives just throw the loot at such players in massive amounts, either through customization of loot tables or directly through perks. so you dont get rid of the "gief all nao, i dun wanna work for my gear" mentality, you feed it. ghosting is only an issue in a very limited subset of encounters, and can be addressed by other means than isolating the server from the hive and thus removing a core game mechanic completely. i acknowledge the wish for modding, and i see the advantages of being able to run isolated instances of the game. i just think the downsides are not worth it.
