Do you want the new version of NEAF?

i can confirm these two errors popping up frequently. i have not been able to identify a condition triggering it, so could not reproduce it at will. i had the impression its popping up when approaching a town/settlement for the first time on a server.

Bad version, server rejected connection
Element47 replied to MikealienHeAd's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
dayz commander should offer you the option to update your Arma 2 installation to 112555. If you look at my DayC, the version on the left should obviously equal the one on the right. where it says "Reinstall" in the above screen, you'd have "Install" if you have an outdated version. Be aware, that pressing install launches the Arma patch installer, it could be that the window of that installer is hidden behind DayZ Commander so you need to bring it forward using the taskbar, or minimize Day Commander to see it. It will ask for permission to install the latest patch etc. -
Bad version, server rejected connection

congratulations. you made three threads on the topic, each single of them in the wrong subforum. ths, i sincerely am convinced that any support and advice i could give is way beyond your capability to apply them to your issue. I would post a hilarious gif derailing this thread, but i fear you might try to lick it off your screen. my honest suggestion: deinstall everything related to arma and dayz, and go back to candy crush saga. -

Why we should embrace "R" to chamber. [Take your time to read please.]
Element47 replied to Pliskinki's topic in Suggestions
You have. The real-world keybind is your memory, what to do. Within miliseconds, you decide to reload and initiate the proper action, your muscles react, and you begin reloading. The keybind is only the trigger of the action. In real life, our brain does this instantly. -

Which is an argument in favor of a proper chambering animation which brings the gun into your focus. Not against a keybind that triggers such. -

so because CoD and BF (and about every other game) uses ESC to access the menu, we should conciously ignore this design pattern and make opening the menu especially clunky, with the purpose of differentiating this game from all the other "easy mode", "arcade" games? bullshit. binding a key to a certain action is an interface decision, it is a question of usability, not of gameplay. if chambering a single round is a gameplay action used regularly by players, it makes perfect sense to offer a keybind for it. and it should be up to the player to decide, to which key he wants this action bound to. As a medic, i can have a bandage in my quickbar and ready it with one keypress, its not unreasonable from a combat-oriented player to be able to initiate a "chamber one bullet" action with one keypress. How long such an action would take, what it would mean in terms of gameplay, thats a matter of implementation and balance. but bad usability and UX design does not equal realism. -

WHY are the big buildings not big?

in Chernarus, you cant run for ten minutes without stumbling upon the next settlement. it is not vast and sparsely populated, it is merely underdeveloped. Apart of that, Fairbanks, Alaska, as one of the larger towns comparable in importance to Elektro or Cherno, is approx. the size of entire Chernarus+ int his regard, i had an interresting idea. can the population - extrapolated from the amount of residential buildings - actually support the estimated workforce needed to operate the industry and commerce present? -
WHY are the big buildings not big?
Element47 replied to Shrub Rocketeer ™'s topic in General Discussion
i understood the OP as referring to the overall size of the building - gross floor area, number of floors etc.. here is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in Moscow, photographed in 2013. so its entirely believable that hospitals in rural areas are sized as presented in the game -
yes, in my vanity i have decided to create a "The Ultimate..." suggestion thread. even worse, its a gun suggestion thread. bear with me. With the hope that ammo will become painfully scarce in the finished game, it came to my mind what should be the absolute pinnacle of ultrarare loot, the holy grail of the weapon fanatic, the epic among epics. i present to you: the last gun you'll ever need. a wonderfully crafted multi-cal, a work of art, a goddess. so the core of my suggestion is: bring a wonderfully crafted multi-caliber rifle as ultra-rare end-game item for style and versatility. now bring out the pitchforks and burn me already, but i had to share that dream with you :)

No Mans Sky begs to pardon. But thats of course a whole different cup of tea. @OP interesting idea, but not feasible for DayZ. A map is quite a complex thing, and many game features depend on it. There may be ways of doing it, procedural or not (see Diablo 3 map randomization) but not in DayZ.

often - not always- pushing means you control the situation and force the opponent to react. so its not really only mindless CoDlers pushing. of course it all depends on positioning, and how superior your entrenched position really is. that said, i usually play the waiting game, as waiting provides BOTH parties with an opportunity to live. ;)

GTX 660 & Fx 8320, What does it take to run DayZ?

I want to host a vanilla DayZ official hive server...what's required?
Element47 replied to Chris9183's topic in New Player Discussion
not only a professional service. an established, large GSP with datacenters in multiple regions with the infrastructure and SLAs to guarantee patch rollout, server file security, and stability, and on top of that the ability to provide a significant number of server instances at own expense. -
well i totally hope they lose the Arma feel, because that is a horrible, clunky mess. But sadly im pretty sure that it will remain arma-ish. that said, i am with Kyrah on the assessment of this statement.
