Does DayZ Commander wreck your internet too?
Element47 replied to Scorned's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayzCommander SSLs into your router, provides the proper login credentials, and issues a reboot command? damn, thats some sophisiticated piece of code... other than that, i know older DLinks had firmware issues which would cause reboots after a certain amount of traffic, but afaik DLink corrected the issue.. overheating is known to cause random reboots, or failing hardware.. consumer-grade routers are cheap as bread nowadays, if you experience random reboots under load, then its probably worth investing that 20-30 bucks EDIT: just fired up dayzcommander and looked over its traffic stats today over the last days, starting it up or refreshing all servers peaks at 80-12 kB/s. transfered volume is somewhere between 6-8 MB each time it gets started. Hardly the amount of traffic to bring down an internet connection or a router. done so with default settings (300 conns) -
your points are all valid. and since you obviously did not enjoy your experience, no one can blame you for quitting. you have encountered the typcial, unpolished, buggy, lagging, dragging, often frustrating experience of testing an unfinished software product. i am sure many will just post "tl;dr, this is alpha" - and as overused this reasoning is, its absolutely applicable in this case. many game developers offer a release candidate as 'public beta' for marketing purposes, basically to bait people and get interest and PR. this isnt the case here. this isnt a demo or a release candidate pretending to be beta. its not even true beta. its alpha. its bugridden, full of exploits, its hacked together, it is under heavy construction. you dont expect to have a pleasant living experience in a house, which is in the process of being build, without windows, without isolation, without heating, with construction workers operating a drillhammer in your living room. dont expect a pleasant gaming experience from a game in a similar state of development.

epic lewt is must-have, because reasons. but rarity is key. what i would like to see reduced is the ridiculously high amount of ammo in the game. 5 minutes after spawning on the beach you have maybe one soda, but a backpack full of ammunition. game needs more melee weapons though.

So you want DayZ, but it's $30.
Element47 replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i can haz teddy? honestly, i would advise not to pirate the game. the price equals having a drink with friends and yields more than just a single evening of fun. bohemia doesnt screw the gamers, so dont screw them by using their work withouth due compensation. pay for the game and show that you support developers who deliver good titles, or we'll only have dumbed-down facebook-enabled mainstream crap in the future. -
People shooting unarmed people, why?
Element47 replied to kitta's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
this game is a mirror of the real life. we probably should be grateful you express your disposition in this game, it lessens the chance you abuse animals and children in the real world - 'because you can' you obviouly draw satisfaction from causing discomfort to others. I'd give you beans out of pity and compassion, but you might misunderstand it as encouragment. Hope your life gets better soon, must be a miserable existance. -
i found my first ghillie, my first m16a2 and my first m24 (both with more ammo than i could carry) on my first visit to the NWAF. then you thought i test my luck further, went back to NWAF in the hope to find NVG, and got killed in the barracks shower. Wield an axe now, because awesome

A proposal to fellow medics
Element47 replied to trimethylxanthine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
as you are stocked up on medical supplies, could you compile a list on what you need for the basic stockpile? matches/knives/canteens and the like, or am i thinking in the wrong direction? -
its not dying. actually the opposite of that. as some may remeber, counter-strike was a mod in its beta back in 1999, also ridden with bugs and hackers, rather similar to dayz. despite this fact, today, 13 years later, its still alive and kicking. i have no fear for DayZ. I cant predict how successful it will become in the future, but cheater waves during alpha/beta testing? thats no news. pretty much every game has that. Thats no sign of demise. oh and btw: i havent seen a single hacker in the last two weeks, despite playing daily on EU and US servers. i must be lucky, eh? EDiT: before i forget: what was your qualification to lecture software developers on how to approach the development of their product again?

Illegal items and script recognition in server logs
Element47 replied to The_Weasel's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
re skins: players have been tweaking configs to use ArmA-included faces you otherwise dont get to choose using the profile editor (tutorials are here on the forums), probably the same with the soldier skins you noticed. also, the notorious exploits suppress logging, so can only be detected by their api hooks or injections. ofc there will be instances of malicious activity logged thus allowing you to act, but i think it will be a drop in the ocean. good luck though, every bit helps. just ensure you dont ban legit players, for instance because they used a camo face :) -
To persevere or not to persevere?
Element47 replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
haven't encounterred hacks so far, but im only playing for two weeks :) i wouldnt mind it too much though.. its like checking off "being thunderdomed" from my "what to experience during dayz alpha" list.. so far my experience is mostly positive.. killed more often by Z due to careless actions than by other players.. met more friendlies than bandits so far.. -
no matter if drunk or not, true or not, hatcheting your way to help fellow survivors is worth my beans.. if you did it, cool.. if you only dreamed about doing it, thats enough for me.. better than snipers :)

i am merely a delivery man for the docs, but i happen to be close, so i try to get to you -
i have actually wondered that its not happening on a regular base. i am used to frequent database wipes from other alpha and beta tests..

Zelenogorsk should have a Hospital
Element47 replied to acutebluesmurf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i am sure the OP would be content with a MASH/CSH dropped near Zeleno ;) IMHO the current placing of main medical spawns opposite of the main military spawns works well and should remain so. -
how about a "your balls are itching" notice in chat everytime there is another creature - zombie, cow or player - in your proximity?

Locking server time to server location time
Element47 replied to MajesticShitstain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
not sure if stupid or just ignorant.. anyways congratulations on your sensible font and color choice. server population isnt really an indicator, as weekdays at 3:00AM the nearby servers max at some 15 people - those can be night or daytime.. a possible solution is to go to servers on the other side of the planet, half of which kicks me for ping over 150, and the other half is riddled with russian and american hackers.. -
its hilarious when people who cant even operate a calculator properly think they can lecture software developers.

Locking server time to server location time
Element47 replied to MajesticShitstain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
hmm.. i usually can only play after midnight, and i need to hop a dozen servers until i find a daytime one. playing on night time servers? sorry but there is no point when i cant see shit. with gamma and brightness turned up to max, i can see a few shades aboe me in the clouds, but the landscape remains pitch black. i could as well turn off the monitor and try to play by sound only. thats really not enjoyable. -
Are people that run servers allowed to turn it off and on whenever they want to play?
Element47 replied to dumah's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
in general, community-run servers do not provide an uptime guarantee.. admins spend their money and time to setup and manage the servers, and with a patch-heavy game like DayZ it can be a PITA.. some may run servers only for a few hours per day, because the bandwidth is allocated to other services during the rest of the time.. some may take it down regularly for updates or because there is a server-side issue.. its not always ill will. as the reasons behind downtime are not determined, and no service level agreement exists, there is no reason to punish server admins for downtimes..
