  1. ok, this actually touches my field of work.. you are right, that the ArmA UI suffers from some serious flaws. This is beyond arguing. But there will always be a kind of "meta-difficulty". A student doing exams will face not only the difficulty of the test, but the distraction of the environment. An athlet may not only face the challenge of his sport, but maybe not-so-perfectly fitting shoes. In gaming, like in many other applications of human-computer-interaction, the UI will always be an imperfect proxy for our actions. Current HCI research intensively explores new methods of intuitive interaction, and user-oriented interface design has risen massively in attention and priority, But for the foreseeable future, the UI will remain a compromise, it will remain an abstraction of real action and feedback. to pickup your example - someone wrote regarding the hatchet, that it is highly unlikely that he would have both an assault rifle and an axe in quickdraw holsters, so it cannot be expected to switch between the two within a second. It is a valid point, and the UI design needs to compromise between accesible gameplay and realism. In most cases, there is not one valid solution, but many different paths of sacrificing one aspect over another. Do i think the ArmA interface could have been done better? Sure, in many ways. But this is my personal opinion, and in my daily work, i encounter programmers, engineers and UX experts everyday who have qualified, valid opinions which diametrically differ from mine. bottom line: UIs will always be imperfect. They can be argued to represent the meta-difficulty of our actions, which is beyond prediction or simulation. And no single UI will ever appeal to everybody. So, as much as you present a valid point, there isnt really a solution to it.

Any point in not being murderer?

as for efficient: i got my tents, weapons and NVGs as gifts from people helped along my way, and built trust and friendship, thus gaining support i can count on when in need of help. so from my point of view, not killing is more profitable. as for the challenge: to me, shooting everyone is basically deathmatch. getting supplies from elektro/cherno to the north is basically capture the flag. getting into one war zone, snatching the valuables, getting it safely into the other warzone on the opposite side of the map, without shooting or getting shot - thats mroe challenging imho than just roaming and shooting everything on sight.

Any point in not being murderer?

although you quoted my post, it seems you have not read it. i am not talking about shooting or killing. i am talking about character and disposition, about behaviour as a gamer. If you shoot everybody in this game, armed or not, hostile or not, you ignore the many people who do not want to PvP at that point, thus inflicting frustration on purpose. DayZ is more than a deathmatch arena. It provides you with a sandbox, but its up to you to choose your game mode. if you want challenging PvP, there is place for that, but also a place for cooperation and survival. If you kill everybody on sight, you reduce this to a deathmatch for everybody. You reduce the gaming experience of other players to the one mode you have chosen for yourself. You think you're a nice guy because you help with the dishes and bring out the trash? But on the internet, you can be an asshat, because its not "real"? thats a misconception. Online interactions are as true and real as those using any other medium. Yes, its easier being an anonymous asshat than face-to-face. But its not better ;) EDIT: clarification: by "you", i refer to a hypothetical individual, not Dosh personally. I have not reason to assume he is such a hypothetical asshat :)

Any point in not being murderer?

what is the game other, than a mirror of our life? in a multiplayer game, you interact with other people, individual humans like you. if you murder them, you end their game and force them to start anew. how is being an ass in the game different from being an ass in real life? how is causing discomfort and frustration to others in a game different form real life? if you are the type of person who draws satisfaction from harassing others in real life, you will enjoy doing it ingame as well. if you are the type of person who draws satisfaction from cooperation, you will enjoy doing it ingame as well. as stated on several occasions already, the medic thread in the Survivor HQ is a prime example of how cooperation in DayZ works well and provides meaning and joy to many players. similarly, you will find examples of how people enjoy playing the game as asshats. you need to decide for yourself, who you are.

    Clan bases/server & ALT F4 solution

so you basically want to make server hopping a core gameplay mechanic, with a focus on clan gameplay while putting non-organized players into disadvantage. i refrain from posting all the meme imagery that comes to my mind and just point you to http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/BI_Tools_2 so you can make your own arma2 clan warfare mod

    Recommended Amount of Gear?

hatchet knife matches ---- 1-3 canteens 2-3 morphines 1-2 painkillers 4-6 bandages --- pick up soda and canned food as much as i can carry. --- i dont use guns much - i dont shoot first so dont need it really for pvp, and for Z, a hatchet is just peachy.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.

short after action report before bed: As i happened to lurk in Elektro after restocking in the hospital, i thought i might be of help to Whiltheris, who needed some morphine to get him going (pun intended) at the power plant. I was rather hungry so i decided to hit the supermarket while passing it on my way north out of the city. Unfortunately, the supermarket already had a customer, and this one must have been watching the wrong news channel, as he clearly has mistaken me for some terrorist. Well, my AK-74 pointing in his direction might have made the wrong impression, but that chopper aint easily hidden when you're backpack is full with blood and drugs. He wasnt a bad guy though, after shooting me in my face he went about his business, leaving me unconcious, laying in my blood, not looting my bleeding body or my alice pack. i regained conciousness after a few seconds which seemed an eternity, only to see the aggroed Z stumble towards me. I jerked up and ran.. through the supermarket, not checking for food of course, to the back. bandaged myself there at barely above 3000 blood. as the friendly neighbouthood infected began streaming into the market, i made a run out the back for the foliage and dropped into some bush not far from a few houses. i then crawled behind one of the houses to a relatively safe position, only to notice that my long neglected hunger began affecting my blood level. dropping below 3k and pasing out first time, i thought i wasnt much of a help to a patient. Luckily, Whilteris was not easily discouraged, so he crawled from the power plant to my position to offer me canned pasta. So strengthened, i eagerly applied morphine and a transfusion, a service he also returned. Great guy, has guts of a soldier and the hands of a medic, Filled me up with blood before i even could ask. Although its a little embarassing to nearly starve on your patient, i am glad i was able to help in the end. And thanks for the pasta. :) Now i make my way north again, the remaining supplies need to be delivered after all. On this note, im off for the night, good night all, and stay safe

Ayone know where the files are for.....

if you try to open a pbo with notepad, than you most probably lack the proper tools and knowledge to "fix" the artifacts. pbo files are packed folder structures, dynamically expanded by the engine on runtime.. you want mess with them, use an unpacker.. be warned though, you will most probably fubar your dayz install.
