Scripted weapons being passed about.
Element47 replied to narcosis's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
but seriously, how difficult would it be to have a script purging all non-legit item IDs from characters saved in the hive db. thus everyone picking up a non-legit weapon would have it vanish from the inventory within a minute or two. it would be a small step, but a progress nevertheless. -
persistance of character data including location across servers is one of main game features. it creates certain issues, but has its own merits. if i have a patient who is low on blood and bleeding (which happens quite often), i depend on his location information, because time is critical. if i have to search for him because someone dropped a sandbag somewhere within 100m radius, he probably will die. if persistance across servers is an issue for you, there are many private servers which do not share character data with the hive, and thus character equipment and location are unique to that one server. on such a server, your fortifications will have the effect you desire.
-
so i log out in cover, and the next day i log in amidst zombies, because some player decided to drop some sandbags close to my hiding place?

If you vote for the GDC Audience Award, you vote for your favorite game. not the most stable one, or the most successful one, but for the one you favor most this year. I voted for DayZ because its unique, because it provides players with choice unparalleled, because it is immensly fun despite its alpha status and all it means (tents, glitches, duping, we all been there). If you enjoy dumbed-down on-rails shooters, thats fine. Dont vote then. But if you enjoy the concept of DayZ, and want to make an impact on the way games are developed, then you should vote.
-
dunno where you got your concept from. proper alpha and betas dont hotfix issues to accomodate users, even large issues (gamebreaking issues in games development) do not get fixed outside the planned patch cycle. fix for the glitches may come with the next patch, but doesnt have to, might as well add further features first, and fix the glitches when the game is feature-complete, to ensure that they wont come back with new features. this isnt a stable and feature-complete release candidate, relabeled "alpha" or "beta" for PR purposes. Its really an alpha: feature functionality and stability have not a high priority, the matter at hand are specific code tests and data collection. and regarding its alpha state its a fucking miracle, the amount of errors which would completely crash my gaming rig or at least the arma application is miniscule. not everyone who is not playing the entitled kid is automatically sucking developers dick

ok, i dont want to spoil too much, but i think its fair to the OP to disclose a thing to him, of which i have factual knowledge: players who choose female avatars in games, are not always females in real life! :o i know, its shocking! like, TOTALLY!
-
there are bridges.
-
need to chime in: do the PR, game needs and deserves it, and so do you. And take your time with 1.7.3, people expect a lot from it. Cheers

i like your way of thinking. fast travel options should also be included ASAP. this would really add immersion. also do not forget crafting and professions.

agreed. though they need a more expressive vocabulary.

Bandit needing help to become a hero
Element47 replied to The_Albatros's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"hey, i am a mass murderer, but lost the fun in it, so here is a free lollipop, are we even now?" there is redemption. but it is not easy. you chose the path conciously, and now you face the consequences. if you really want to be a hero, start acting like one. -
Me and my friend are stranded in Mogilevka...

refueling wont help if its overturned. but i have to agree with the posts above, vehicles are rare and walking is the usual way to get around. the map is large, but not that large that you couldnt run from south to the north in a manageable time.. plan your way ahead to hit points of interest like deerstands and villages, dont forget to stock up on food and drinks, and you'll be fine.. when i read the title i assumed you broke your legs, not that you're too lazy to walk ;) -

oh man.. i wont be able to join until the somewhat later evening, so i'll miss the opening.. but i have that audition goin on.. some screen-time hungry amateurs really need my attention, and i cant let them hang there now, can i? i will definitely be able to provide smoke and lights of varying colours and i also have that rad "lasershow from the mid-eighties" gadget stashed somewhere (or at least thats what L85 stands for, i think), so dont go to bed too early,as i'll definitely be hitting the scene! -

Skillsets to encourage cooperation
Element47 replied to Playa (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
wrong game. skills/levels/character classes not going to happen with current vision of the game. of course no one can say what the future may bring. but one of the appealing, unique features of DayZ is the point, that you have to define your role for yourself, and that you're not defined by arbitrary skills or talents of your virtual avatar, but by your interaction as a player.. -
home lines, be it cable or fiber, with provider-promised 100/100, often are not comparable to datacenters hooked on proper backbones, and prone to lag spikes and load-balancing induced congestion times. many advertised 100mbit connections are also asyncronous, offering 100mbit download but meager 10 - 30 mbit upload speed.. add to that consumer-grade router and switch, and you have the recipe for frustration...

add option for "Its this thread again" i might be biased though, got reprimanded when I suggested this obviously often-discussed solution a few weeks ago...
