    Warning dont drink the water

Moctezumas Revenge upon you. One does not simply walk into the Aztec Empire and party!

    Reason behind your username?

Silver, the element with the atomic number 47. i have used it in a lot of different variations (which i wont list all as it would be too easy to research me on the public net :P ) silver has some pretty cool physical characteristics, it has a deep meaning in culture and mythology, considered pure and incorruptable and its a bane to malevolent forces. and is overall awesomesauce.

    Warning dont drink the water

pond water became unhealthy when people starting stashing their trucks in it, shit is leaking :D on a serious note, as someone returning after months to the game, this was new to me too until very recently. IMHO its one of those many details that make this game so great.

    Challenge: Living off Elektro

add two rules and i might be interested: 1. no weapons except hatchet/crowbar 2. live off the loot spawns, but not the bodies.

Teenagers from Finland made me feel old

Thats actually my current scope of research. Supporting consumer product design to allow for the development of inclusive products. However our current reference products have been mobile phones and washing machines and the like so far, i think it will take some time until we get funding for developing inclusive gaming controllers :x

Alerting zombies and how to avoid.

my speculation is, that every Z has a chance to spot you, with modificators applying for range, lighting, sound etc., and the game tests against that dynamically modified value in regular time periods. so if you basically (and i pull numbers out my ass now) roll a 1 on a 1-100 roll, you critically failed and be spotted despited being prone in the bush, but if you roll a 100 on that 1-100 roll, you wont be spotted despite Z looking you into your face.

    The Reddit Rescue Force

i've returned to the game after a few months absence, and seem to have missed a lot of drama. I have for instance no idea who ESU is. i have run enough medic missions and witnessed enough others as support or supply (and some even as a patient) though to know that there is heart in it. I've witnessed people like SoulShaper or Nurse Kobra - to name two from among dozens - go out and save people in the morning hours, even though they just wanted to leave for bed. I have saved people who admitted to play as a bandit, but who nevertheless were thankful and respectful, accepting our neutral role. There are enough posts in this forum to bear witness of the dedication of TMW and whitelist medics, so please do not trashtalk them. I also respect the RRF for their dedication to help people. I have seen quite a few videos showing that, and i've read a few posts on the subreddit. My Kudos go especially to Doobikhan for his calm and professional manners. I think the last thing medics should do is try to compete with each other or belittle each other. I personally dont like reddit, and i am positively surprised that it spawned such a great subcommunity. One thing though did strike my eye on the RRF subreddit: DISCLAIMER: The RRF is not accountable for the actions of any "medic". Neither should you make the TMW as a whole responsible for actions done by individuals. I actually can understand that some may need to change the pace once in a while, and leave the medic role. Not everyone is born to be a 100% 24/7 carebear. Some need to change their name, drop the tags and go pvp in elektro. I wont blame any single one of them, no matter who he is or with whom he affiliates when he plays his medic role. i like being a medic. i really believe, that doc wasteland created something wonderful, and i am happy to be part of it. Doc once said, that he doesnt want to start a clan, because of all the bullshit and bickering and competition that usually happens with clans. He was persuaded by us frelance medics, who wanted him to lead us, and wanted to coordinate our efforts. thats TMW. I dont know the founding story or the motives of the RRF. i wont judge them, for good or bad. But i know i treated it as a challenge when TMW was massively targeted by focused asshatery, and from what i read, Doobikhan also sees it as a challenge and opportunity. I admit i had a laugh at the antics of Gaylord Buttprince, and i would probably laugh as hard if it happened to me. I play a medic, but i dont blame people for playing a bandit. or a troll. it adds fun. this is dayz, dont get attached to your gear. or your life.

    DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

every single game i followed during development phase was accused at some point or other that communication was sketchy, unprofessional, or even worse. in most cases the team had nothing that they would percieve as newsworthy, they had boring code monkey stuff, like "hey, we managed to optimize the netcode and finally fixed that memory leak, oh and you wouldnt know, but we had that bug that caused that funny segmentation fault exception - we could finally reproduce it, its connected to that serialization issue that gave us so many headaches" no pwetty pictahs, no funny videoz. i am absolutely positive they dont sit on their thumbs but work on the game. even with dean absent. could they communicate better? they sure could. but they are for the most part experts in game development, not in marketing und public relations. and thats cool. just chill, news will come eventually.

    Your "process"?

it depends on spawn point. if in the east or center, i head for elektro/cherno, checking industrial spawns to get a hatchet first. then, residentials, church, store to get matches and knife. occasional check in fire stations for possible weapons, but not a priority. once i have aquired a hatchet, and possible knife + matches, i run north. if spawning in kamenka, i head instantly north for Zelenogorsk, possibly checking map edge for tents and the frequent deerstand for military loot. if spawning at krutoy cap, i probably will swim over to skalisty to check the chopper spawns and possible tents

What if we removed the crosshair?

i see many people cite realism, as we dont have a crosshair in reallife dangling in front of our eyes. but we have what is called hand-eye coordination, we can instinctively point with our finger where we are looking with our eyes. this is not possible in the game, the constant feedback from our own sensory system is missing. my avatar in the virtual world does not look where i look, and to know his exact point of focus, the crosshairs serve as an representation. having no crosshairs for guns is a non-issue, guns have sights. but every other interaction would be severely hindered, and there is a lot of targeting involved. side note, slightly off-topic: you could avert some of this by using a cursor to interact with world assets, this has been successfully implemented in several games. current system is quite glitchy anyway, i regularly cannot pickup a weapon i put on the ground again, as the system gives me no interaction option, although the item is in plain sight. mostly it seems like an invisible part of the geometry is blocking the "Line of Interaction". this is just bad implementation.

dayz has killed gaming for me

sye73 has a shitty taste of games. now lets get over this shit and return to shitting over the OPs post of how shitty his life is. please?

    Learning to fly

for me, Chernarus Armory Challenges were great, especially the checkpoint races and the pickup&delivery missions. good practice. EDIT: also, setting up an analogue stick is a must. i know people who are terrific pilots with keyboard only, but for me analogue control makes it so much better

Dayz SA to be a failure

ok i read the whole thread. i dont care for (or have anything against) private hives, but i look forward to the SA and i think OP is better off playing angry birds.

    Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?

discussing morality and ethics of player actions within a game context usually equals pandoras box. it is beyond doubt, that being able to coordinate a team through a private comm channel is an advantage. but is it an unfair advantage? it is a venue open to everyone. some may deprive themselves of this option voluntarily for the sake of immersion. thats ok. but does it mean that its the only way the game is meant to be played? i sincerely doubt it. i am a fan of player-concieved challenge modes - i have played diablo iron man, i have attempted speed runs, naked runs ,melee only runs, stealth only runs or hardcore runs in several games - those are all fair and good. but never ever attempt to tell others, that your challenge is the measure, and those who do not abide by your rules dont "play it right". there is one single case, where external voice comm actually circumvents a DayZ mechanic - the (in)ability to communicate when unconscious. this is however of only limited use, and only in a competitive pvp setting - as much as the unconcious victim can relay his situation to his teammates, can his attacker coordinate with an overwatch - there is no unfair imbalance. Contrary - Think of League of Legends for example, it doesnt provide built-in VoiP, however every proper team uses external VOIP as it provides massive tactical advantage to the ingame textchat. Think of a typical four player RTS, say Age of Empires, where two players collaborate and coordinate through teamspeak against two isolated players. you can argue that an unconscious player is not meant to communicate, and doing so is unethical. but arent unethical actions a core mechanic of the game? one of the strongest suspension factors of this game is not knowing whether you'll be KoS'ed or helped, whether that guy in front of you is a spotter for a coordinated bandit party or just a fellow trying to survive another round of scavenging. When i face a bandit, there is already unethical action happening, some jerk is trying to kill me! Is he alone or is he relaying my position to his squad? i have no idea, its pure suspension. But at the same time he has no idea if i am alone, or just calling in support. for me, its part of the game. feel free to play without external voip, but do it happily, enjoying the additional challenge. dont judge others who do not follow your path.
  18. in my humble opinion, the amount of idiocy in the original post makes any sensible discussion pointless. i try anyway. If i understand the OP correctly, then having a spouse should be against TOS, because a player who is in a relationship can have her bring you coffee and sandwich while you play, which gives you a terrible advantage, QQ. also, having different input devices creates terrible inbalance in the game, so the TOS should explicitely state what kind of mouse and keyboard you are allowed to use. Surely someone using a razer nostromo is a cheating noob with an immense tactical advantage, as opposed to our 1337 bronie who plays the game with keyboard only. If the game client logs a different device ID connected to the computer, the game key should be globally banned. Right? following this logic, it should also be against the TOS to use different seats, as someone who can relax in a leather seat with integrated massage feature defies the harsh survival aspect of the game, and basically cheats. only russian-made hardwood kitchen chairs should be allowed, those should be a mandatory purchase from the game publisher, and fitted with RFID and IR tags so the game client can validate the proper use of competitive seating equipment via RFID scanner and Webcam. Not using one of those should also be a bannable offense. am i getting it right?

dayz has killed gaming for me

to me it sounds like your saturation with gaming has broken dayz for you. good thing is, you realized something is broken. as someone stated - take a break. take up a sport, experiment with new drugs, become a zealot of a sex cult or just repaint your appartement. at least those were things that worked for me. do whatever fits you - a few weeks or months away from gaming might do wonders.

    Return to DayZ worth it?

i had to pause due to real life implications, and long to come back.. sure there is KoS, but thats not what i remember.. i remember the glowlight-lit disco party with ABBA playing over direct comm and satchel fireworks, the chopper rides to Wagners "Ride of the Valkyries", the hospital raids to resupply medics, the many, many friendly, grateful people, who, i met when running as medic or supply.. oh those glorious times when we drove the 'Shagwagon' along the coast, the competitions who can ride a bicicle faster down a hill (116 kph was my best attempt).. oh and dont forget the dreaded ATV and how you can ride it to the moon when crossing onto a bridge.. so many fond memories.. we had fun shootouts too, joining a clan server with 15 people all in same attire to hunt down bandits and their camps, or fighting for hours to hold krutoy cap and thus secure the way to skalisty.. so much fun..

    Exploading Dogs??

actually, it was the Soviet Army who perfected the use of thousands of "anti-tank dogs" in WW2. Your vision should then rather involve the "Za rodinu!" shout :P edit: on a side note, in Islam it is considered sinful to kill animals for other reasons than food..
