    Custom Server Support

if your own wordpress site at dreamlydesigns.com is any indication, "professional" is not the term you should be using. broken/empty links, missing images etc. If you cant even set up your own site properly, i dont even want to know what you do to customers....
  2. for a few days. it was like the second day i played dayz, totally new, didnt know morphine heals broken legs (which i broke while crawling though a door), didnt have a map, didnt know about dayzdb map (dunno if it was aorund already back then) and basically crawled through the woods alone, every single building i came across presenting new, unknown loot.. i didnt know that there is a difference in loot spawns (residential, medical etc) or what they spawn. after a few days i got mauled by zombies at one of the castles.

Not a new player, but almost no PvP

you might want to center it using the paragraph style, too

    PhysX Doors?

the implementation of interaction with objects in arma2 and subsequently in dayz is probably the worst i have ever seen, and it would really be a game- and dealbraking issue if the dayz SA didnt improve heavily on that. i agree with applepony that the game needs a push/pull mechanic it would be nice to have a push/pull, maybe similar to the one used in penumbra

Any mature gamers out there ?

no offense Izolated, but the recruitment thread you posted with your other account ( http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/129162-forming-a-bandit-group/ ) doesnt really smell like "mature" also, a server id in raidcall isnt its IP (apart from the fact that raidcall is generally to be advised against froma security point of view as its full of exploits)

    Best gun for player hunting

    hatchet.

    Decentralizing loot

a good map needs a flow. the loot system as it is in current mod actually helps shape the player traffic on the map.. people stream to the coast cities for residential supplies and to the airfields and inner-map heli crash sites for military supplies - all those supplies can be obtained outside those hotspots too but with a lesser chance. thus, a natural flow on the map exists. i think its pretty well laid out.

    Hitmarkers, yay or nay?

nametags are horrible and iirc not the majority. crosshairs provide a way to synchronize the point where you are looking and where your avatar looks, the human focus is a rather precise tool and not easily reproduced on a screen. 3rd person view.. well.. i'd rather not have it, though i have to admit i use it times and again for convenience on servers where available.. its also a real help when landing a chopper as 1st person view is far too limited in comparison to real view inside the vehicles.. hitmarkers however - definitely a no, like nametags.

    Backpack

"but my backpack in real life isnt in 2D, i can put a shirt -around- a bunch of mags!" one could also implement the inventory system in 3D and use PhysX to just shake the bag until all the items found their place... :D i agree that yours is an interesting idea, but i would caution against trying to bring maximal realism to every aspect and game mechanic. "its a running simulator, not a warehousing simulator!" B)

    Where to Find Good Weapons

to the selfobsessed double poster:  to Branch37 - firehouse buildings, military tents, deerstands, helicopter crash sites, airfields.. you might want to check out the map at http://dayzdb.com/map which contains the spawn locations of different kind of gear - be warned though that this constitutes spoilers as it takes away a lot of exploring. edit: i see shrimpy beat me to it :D
  11. if tech was only made to include everybody who can afford it, we would still ride on horses and dwell in wooden huts.

    Your "process"?

Bicycles are the best vehicle in the game. silent. no need to refuel. no one wants a pickup.full speed off-road.
  13. i had this experience on DE 850. upon login (didnt matter if geared-out char or fresh spawn) everybody spawned in the debug plains, and was killed by waiting people. i rejoined several times after my death, once i was teleported to a obviously hacked base near Guba, where i was able to grab an Apache gunship and fly a bit around the map. Seemed like a hacker hideout to me, as most people dont carry enough food around or even want to run for hours to leave debug plains on foot. Teleporting hacker however could use such a server to safely spawn his gear and then server-hop onto a properly protected server, with his gear seemingly legit.
  14. could be worse. i found three empty tin cans on one side, and two bandages on the other side. couldnt interact with the internal inventory. but im not complaining, found three SVD Camos + Ammo and a Ghillie on another crash site just hours before. i hatchet them all before approaching the chopper.. you never know when a pilot drops them NVGs
  15. i've given it some thoughts my idea was to have several DayZ servers run in VMs and track players on each through a common backend. logout on one server and login to the other could be automated and triggered by scriptw at certain transit points, thus enabling map/server transit. I have only debian servers, so havent been able to tool around with arma and dayz server-side, but im pretty sure its possible, given that Arma2 allows for C++ and .NET extensions on windows machines.. some of the scripting gurus in the community surely could say more about this

    Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?

EDIT for the facebook generation with the attention span of 140 chars aka tl;dr: not every advantage is cheating. i think its important to discern between "immoral" and "advantage" here. lets talk about advantages over other players here: as i said earlier, being able to coordinate with your teammates is without a doubt an advantage. but having teammates in the first place is already an advantage, one that many do not have. as a fresh spawn, you hav enothing, and you know nothing. you are stranded, alone. having a team waiting for you, having a supply tent so you can regear, is a massive advantage. the argument that you do not spawn with invisible encrypted radio in your inventory is moot in comparison to the fact that you miraculously reincarnate with the knowledge of the tents your recently deceased alter-ego set up, and with a team of friends waiting.. but they are actually not your friends, but friends of your earlier version, right? you see, this game presents many aspects, in which the pseudo-realism of a stranded survivor awash on the coast of a foreign land is broken for the sake of game mechanics and entertainment value. VOIP communication is an integral part of multi-player gaming, as much as the building of communities. you complain that the metagame of voice-coordinated teams constituted cheating - what about clans? being part of a well-organized and equipped group from the start as a fresh spawn? how immersion-breaking is this? surely you would also advocate outlawing clans in DayZ as cheating and unfair advantage over the "lone wolves".. as for the morality - lets look at morals within the game. this is a core question of the game as rocket envisioned it. the backstabbing KoS mentality is a direct effect of the fact, that many people will do absolutely everything to "survive" - there ar emany accounts on these forums from players who say, they rather kill a friendly player on sight than take the risk of being shot themselves by a hostile. the amount of paranoia is wonderfully suspensful in this game. this is because many people choose egoism over morals. not all of course - there are many players who follow the principles of moral altruism, a notable example is the formation of dedicated medic clans in the community. on the "meta-level", there are the percieved morals and ethics of spoiling the game for yourself and others. is it unethical to read guides in advance? is it unethical to use an out-of-game map? is it unethical to organize in clans? use voip? is it unethical to adjust the graphical settings because the blinding effects of the sun may be realistic but really not that fun? is it unethical to use third person while driving a truck? after all you should only see whats in the mirrors. is it unethical to logout for dinner while in a city? i think there is a consensus among gamers - using direct exploits or modifications of the game to avoid or break game mechanics is unethical - thats what people generally call cheating. reading a newbie guide and thus give you a headstart that you wouldnt have if you only used the means provided by the game isnt, and neither is voip or having your gf bring you sandwich and coffee while that sniper you are stalking for the last hour is alone and hunger and thirst take toll on his attention.
  17. nice, easy read. detailed, descriptive writing. i dont like you much, Applej. but i'll be damned if i dont give beans where they are due. one lil thing irked me - the premise is that the gang is a major player in the region, terrorizing the area. for this, the patrol your protagonists faced seemed too unorganized and noobish. i would have expected them to be more of a challenge. a heavily armed sqaud scared of a single axe-wielding dumpster-jumping maniac? he probably wouldnt have lived to raise his smg after that axe swing. but overall, i liked it.
  18. How does it actually sound, in comparison to Jackknife or Jacksknife? Jaks'kknife? Jackson-Knife? honest curiosity here, i already always wondered how you prnounce your forum name.. as for the story, i read until the "socialist unification gun-toting bandits", which basically broke it for me.. it might work though if your target audience is the Fox News/Rush Limbaugh crowd.. Stalin wasnt a socialist. He devised his own rhetoric by heavily distorting Marxist rhetorics, twisting communist ideas beyond recognition, and creating a totalitarian regime, not really unlike its fascist counterpart in Germany. A good example of socialist communites are the agricultural cooperatives in Africa and Southern America, and the Kibbutzim in Israel. You watch too much 'Scrubs'
  19. a rather early suggestion for the mod was the ability to leave persistent notes in the game for other players. ingame implementation of course poses certain problems, thats where the (moderated) forums present a good compromise. paper and pencils are a rather common good, epecially in low tech rural areas the likes of chernarus. History has quite a few precedents of low tech societies posting handwritten notes in public places like church doors to communicate and organize, dating back to 17th century and the advent of common literacy. Other notable examples were coded messages used by resistance movements in both world wars and by opposition movements in opressive states, recent examples include movements in former socialistic block and in southern america. So no, forums are actually a pretty realistic feature, representing such mechanisms which would surely emerge in a postapocalyptic setting.

    Warning dont drink the water

treatment for all those hemorrhoids that snipers get from sitting on elektro hill in the cold rain. good info btw - despite regular threads on this topic many players dont know for a long time that you can use the barrels as a fireplace to boil water or fry meat. or that you actually should boil water. i myself dont bother to boil water, as from my experience the chance of finding antibiotics on one of my supply runs is higher than the chance of infection from water, but i am an adventurous person, living on the edge and all that shit.. also, infections are good for business =)

    can you play dayz offline

Yes you can. There is a mod of the mod, called DaiZy, allowing you to practice and get familiar with the environment in a single player setting, with friendly and hostile AI NPCs etc. http://kodabar.blogs...r-practice.html setting it up might involved a bit of tweaking, i havent got it to run on the one attempt i tried, but i'm sure you'll get help here if you run into issues.

    The Reddit Rescue Force

as for tactics: i myself run hapless into harms way more often than not.. ( random teamspeak buddy: "whats the situation in elektro?" - e47: "let me run around like a headless chicken for a few minutes to see if there is someone sniping..." ). i have been on squads though where we set up a perimeter first, with sniper and spotter on overwatch and heavily armed guards flanking, securing the area before the medic approached the meeting point and signaled the server details to the patient to login for treatment. the course of action really depends on the people involved, some really enjoy the tactical side, while some just want to get shit done without fussing too much. but to be honest, i doubt there are any tactics that would make you safe from a determined and resourceful suicide bomber. regarding RRF and its history, i am honestly interested - as i stated above, i am not at best terms with reddit: i loathe the interface, it doesnt work for me. (and i am fully aware that it works well for a huge amount of other people). I also think it might be interesting to that few people who, like me, have little to no connection to reddit, and thus little knowledge of your part of the overall DayZ community. This might be beyond the scope and topic of this thread though, probably rather an own thread in the Survivor HQ.

My death leads to a charity case.

If your idea of culture means snapping duckface pictures with your iphone in front of your bathroom mirror and then posting it on facebook, and if you think you got "swag" because you wear a baseball cap backwards then YOLO is probably appropriate.
