    Once you have all gear...

there is one thing that is ever changing, and ever challenging - other human players. encounters with other players never get boring to me, from fierce head-to-head duels over hour-long cat-and-mouse wargames to most fun and friendly encounters with amazing personalities..

  8. Here I am. I am perfectly fine with running around the woods in 1st, but there are many instances where 3rd makes the game so much easier - and thus more enjoyable. my favourite 3rd person applications: landing a chopper between rocks and trees is horrible in 1st, i dont have TrackIR or Oculus, and changing the (frustratingly limited in comparison to real life) view with the numpad while juggling the chopper is a challenge i gladly omit thanks to 3rd hiding in foliage and checking if your ass is sticking out of the bush? much easier in 3rd Will i abandon the game if 3rd gets the axe? FFS of course not. But i might miss it.

Use scraps to craft ammo or other stuff?

crafting system has been confirmed in a devblog in March.

Use scraps to craft ammo or other stuff?

what has the optional nature of crafting to do with it? my point is that crafting, no matter how optional, needs a certain degree of realism as in how sophisticated the outcome may be. crafting materials should be simple, appropriate for the civilian (rural, industrial and urban) setting. fitting the materials, the items crafted should be similarly simple. its easy to craft primitive melee weapons, or maybe even a mediocre bow/crossbow/slingshot with wood, scrap metal, rubber, textiles found in civilian environments. you could build primitive explosives like pipebombs or booby traps with civilian grade chemicals and materials like ammonium nitrate, epoxies, aluminium, charcoal etc., you can make time triggers from alarm clock timers and tilt switches with bearing balls or thermometer mercury (the IRA for example had elevated homemade IEDs to an art form in the 70s and 80s) but crafting firearms and related ammunitions is nothing you can do without proper tools and training. you cant just sit down behind a tree and craft additional 5 mags for your L86A2 using the piles of scrap metal you found behind a barn ten minutes earlier. so yes to "craft other stuff" but no to "craft ammo" EDIT: i dont want to make the impressionthat crafting should focus on weapons. i think one of the first things we should be able to craft are bandages, using scrap textile and sanitizer maybe.

crafting in dayz should rather go in the direction of "attach sawblade to baseball bat with nails and wire" instead of "craft subsonic ammunition using your swiss army knife and duct tape"

y'aint an asshole, m8, yer just a feckin self-obsessed prick.. beans for that self-deprecation though, good to see you in good humour.. :) that said, i think that statistic of yours is missing the "1-3 players public hive server" option..

your original idea is wonderful. having maps with user-generated annotations would add tremendous value. you allowed the topic to digress however, and tried to impose your perception of how the game is meant to be played on others. thats insulting. since you insist: VoIP is enhancing, not diminishing gameplay value. socializing with others is never diminishing an experience, and i pity you that you have such a twisted idea. your only jealous fear seems to be, that it is an advantage in pvp squad tactics. the fact that it brings people together, that it allows them to share their joy, their experiences, the most basic fuctions of human communication, seems completely lost. you lament, that people who do not have actively gaming friends are placed at an disadvantage - but every single of the people i hang out on teamspeak with while playing DayZ, i learned through playing DayZ. none of them was a "actively gaming friend" before i met them ingame, or met them on teamspeak and THEN played with them. VoIP brings people together. let me ask a hypothetic question: should it be allowed to speak in direct chat in ancient greek and latin? after all, this would be - how did you put it - "denying people the rights to spy on other groups of people to gather info etc" by the means of direct chat - at least a vast majority of people, since ancient greek is an extinct language, understood maybe by some few hundred scholars in the world. should i be allowed to annotate your maps in encrypted form, thus denying the contents to the uninitiated? to me, its you who is thinking selfish. you want to know it all, you think if you miss any communication, you will be placed at an disadvantage. Even your map suggestion includes of course an idea how YOU could profit from it by looting annotated stash locations from some poor fellas body.. the idea of leaving notes for other players is really old, and iirc unanimously supported. the map variant is a great idea. but your comments in this thread have not done a great service to the idea, no matter what anyone may think about voip.

IMHO, the limitations of the mod and the Arma engine ruin a lot of the experience and immersion for the true DayZ player who treats this as an experience and not a software. I think it would be a damn shame if players with a lack of vision took away features that improve gameplay from the players, who want to play DayZ as it was intended.
  21. stopped reading after obviously OP lost the game long time ago.
  22. nice people are the epic loot of this game. you fight, and you die, and you fight again, and you keep getting trash.. but you do not give up, and eventually, suddenly there is this SAW-wielding Bro of Cooperation or even the legendary Quickscoping Bushwookie of Fellowship and you suddenly feel that it was worth it, because its so rewarding, finding such a gem of a person amidst the paranoid mayhem that is DayZ
  23. this thread makes me feel like i should return more often. when i last played a few weeks ago, it took me 30-45 minutes to be equipped with everything i need, stumbling over AKs and SVDs every 5 mins.. good to see the loot abundance got turned down
  24. hard to tell, because dock icons usually arent displayed in 256x256. create a proper set in 128, 64 and 32 resolutions, then we can judge if it works
