HACKERS - exist a list or stats page for our enjoy???
Element47 replied to wild_man's topic in General Discussion
there's a BE dev on the forums with an ominous "160,000" number in his signature.. -
it'd be great, but with the current engine its probably not gonna happen. not necessarily. in the unreal engine, you can add a single dynamic shader to every mesh in the scene, thus easily covering objects in snow without any performance issues.

The Reason why dayz will be sucsessfull in the future
Element47 replied to pogosphere's topic in General Discussion
your assessment about playertype 1 is wrong. most people who crave the punishing type of game dont do it to measure themselves with others, but to challenge themselves. to measure yourself against others, games which favor competitive playstyles are more suited, quake 3 arena comes to my mind in this regard. your assessment about focus on torture is wrong. merely providing the tools for certain actions does not assert that that actions are specifically promoted. for example the medical care mechanics in dayz are far more elaborate than torture or eating. following your logic one should state, that dayz is a medical care simulator with added survival and combat elements. which would be wrong. considering the fallacies in your analysis, your constant referral to yourself in first person plural in conjuction with your signs of derealization lets me fear that you suffer from dissociative identity disorder. you should relax, turn the computer off and consult professional help. -
ok i am convinced now that this is elaborate trolling. of course we support it. anyone making his location known or easily identifiable to strangers in this game, should expect that this very strangers turn on him. its the daily routine, core gameplay. if i meet up with a patient or a trade client, i fully expect the possibility that he will turn on me. if i broadcast my location in a teamspeak channel to people i do not trust, i should be not surprised if those with nefarious intentions will use that information against me. why should streamers be different? how should it even be possible? streamers throw a show, they do it for their ego mostly, some even draw revenue from their streams. why on earth should there be different rules for them? why should there be any rules in a game, whose core attraction is being a rulefree sandbox? how are streamers different from any other player?

i am not entirely convinced. canned food which became ruined by the means of damage is not spoiled/rotten. it might have a chance of containing shrapnel, but probably not high enough to warrant toxicity. i'd rather suggest ruined tins cannot be opened/consumed and are "dead weight"

orly? highest gun-related death count is at about 60 per 100,000 people per anno. now compare it to gun-related deaths in DayZ and tell me again that its "realistic" ;) pointless argument though, as its all fun and fiction. those who don't like remorseless murder - like me - just dont do it. promote your metagame, lead by example. as a medic, i met an incredible amount of friendly, grateful people in the mod, who were a blast to play with. i am absolutely convinced that it will be the same in the SA. we dont need a game mechanic punishing a certain play style. play the game the way you can identify with, and adjust your actions for those, who play it their way. thats the fun.

DayZ Is Officially Ruined(Player Wise)
Element47 replied to daniels's topic in New Player Discussion
my hope for the finished product is, that we get really deadly PvE elements in addition to really deadly fellow survivors. -
in a game where you can torture and humiliate other players, drawn dicks shouldnt be an issue.

DayZ Is Officially Ruined(Player Wise)
Element47 replied to daniels's topic in New Player Discussion
moronic streamers probably "ruin" this game more than anything else. as for the risk versus reward calculation: thats too simple maths. to me, a possibly positive encounter with a player is worth more than any gear. thus, attempting friendly interaction again and again despite being killed in the process is the sensible thing to do as opposed to killing on sight. killing on sight may remove a potential threat for a short duration of time, and it may grant me an item i am missing, whcih i probably find multiple times over soon anyway. attempting friendly interaction may grant me a personal story shared with a fellow survivor. for me, thats the most epic thing to have in this game. yes, i am a carebear. i enjoy it. i dont judge anyone for playing a murderous sociopath though, because those players create the tension and danger, that makes the positive encounters so rewarding in the first place. -
which is one of the reasons why we never talk of green mountain
-
map annotations have been suggested numerous times before (though not in the last 24 hours so i guess thread is fine :P), and positively commented on by the devs
-
one mans frustration is another mans fun. i am among those who really enjoy the new map mechanic, and look forward for it to be developed further: different maps, different scales, new visuals of partly readable maps with burned/stained areas etc.
-
+1 for keeping the old banner, because it feels at home. as long as the game is not recreated completely with different art, it works well and is identifiable.

its cheating.

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/162099-map-in-4-pieces-is-nonsense-thing/ yesterdays discussion for further reference. maybe topic merge? I understand that thats exactly how it works at the moment. you find only pieces that are usable, combine them to have one big map again
-
as posted in yesterdays thread about that topic, i see two possible explanations one is that regional maps exist, which you must combine to have the whole picture. as someone else pointed out, a printed map at a scale similar to the ingame map would be over 3 meters x 3 meters in size. second one is, that most maps we find are damaged to an extent, and only the designated part - north in your example - is readable and thus usable.

People need to be aware, that at this stage of development, the game is expected to break. It could as well not save any progress to the hive so you lose everything each time you leave a server, it could as well lose server browser functionality so you cannot connect to a game and play at all until the next patch/hotfix. it is to be expected. if you cannot deal with it, come back at a later point.

Compiled list of implemented features and their status
Element47 replied to knar33's topic in General Discussion
gas stove can be combined with a gas canister, can be turned on, but cannot be used to cook yet afaik should be pinned. guys, please refrain from feature discussion as this will clutter up the thread. -
nah, the community is fine. massive influx of new players bombarding the entrenched bittervets creates some heat on the forums at the moment, but generally, most of the community is pretty cool.

Your favourite thing about the Standalone so far?

enters alpha test, sarcastically points out his dissatisfaction about the fact that some features are not yet implemented.. gg -

i love the multilayered clothing and how it affects your inventory space. i hope it will be further diversified. also love that you can wear face attire and helmet together. -
Trying to find a server not ruined by bandits.
Element47 replied to Arciere's topic in New Player Discussion
use cover. rather circle large open fields along treelines than cross them in plain sight. duck into foliage and scan the surroundings regularly. listen intensly. generally, i would advise to get off the coast. the small settlements like mcta, staroye, polana will have you outfitted with axe, maybe a mosin, a backpack, clothes and backpack plus food and drink as much you can carry. then you can plan approaching military installations if you want to raise the bar -
Since everyone wants to add random stuff to the game....

considering the cultural backdrop, i wouldnt be surprised to find one or two sabres or shashkas.. -
