are people trying to make the SA to friendly?
Element47 replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
may i throw my 2ct into the hat? from how I understood the premise of the game: its all about decisions. whether you decide to be that murderous sociopath or whether you decide to be a field medic, or whether you decide to be a scavenger. now, if the game mechanics basically forced you into a certain path, then there would be an imbalance, as your decisions would be effectively limited. but that isnt the case. If you read these forums, you will actually find many accounts fo people enjoying many different ways of playing the game, many enjoyable stories that do not revolve exclusively about "fragging". infinite diversity in infinite combinations, my friends. -
you make incredible amounts of sense for someone named after an obnoxious yordle. may the beans be with you.

food, as all loot, is obscenely overabundant, most probably so we can test item interaction at an increased rate. real balancing of loot amounts will probably not come before beta

Desync is getting really out of hand now.

vote up the issue in the bug tracker to communicate the gravity of the issue to the devs -
Only way to really fix these issues is with private hives.

so when the server is full you need to make a new character or not play? sounds great... -
DayZ has never felt like a Zombie based game, what it needs.

have you actually played the mod and followed the dev blogs? -

the factory at Polana seems to have produced backpacks before the apocalypse. found 5 mountain backpacks there, plus a number of taloon packs east of Solnichny would be the Polana factory? maybe we think of the same site :D

Character wipes and death for no reason on empty server?
Element47 replied to TwilightOne's topic in Troubleshooting
there are certain sync issues that will cause your position not report properly to the server, so if you are on an elevated position like the fire station tower, you might find yourself suddenly outside and thus falling to your death. similarly, when a connection issue prevents accessing your character data, the server will make you create a new character. once the server syncs this new datra back to the hive, it may overwrite you old character. disclaimer: those are educated guesses and speculations in regard to your issue, the behaviour you experienced may have different reasons. -
are people trying to make the SA to friendly?

i will defend the right to play as a murderous sociopath to my last breath. But the obscene amount of loot - especially weaponry and ammo - makes this game too easy. too many people see "gearing up" like quick-shopping loadouts in counterstrike. scavenging for equipment is meant to be a struggle, a fight, its meant to be harsh, unforgiving, frustrating. as Dean said: "When I originally scoped the mod out, I wanted it to be very brutal, and I wanted the finding of your first weapon to be a real event for the player." If you want fast-paced FPS action, this game isnt for you. equipping your character with the best gear needs to take days, maybe weeks, over many, many playing sessions, all the time with the looming danger of dying to infected, other players, hunger, thirst, disease or accident. -

dear colleague, your work cannot be recommended enough. there should be research grants flying in your face left and right for this outstanding work. i am definitely buying you a copious amount of drinks to commemorate this excellent research feat soon, since i have the priviledge of living just a 15 minutes drive away :D -
and thats exactly what i consider gamebreaking. if you see someones backpack and helmet sticking out of the foliage 20 meters ahead, you should not automagically be able to tell who it is. i might be your friend, but it might be a hostile who happens to have found the same kind of backpack and helmet. its not like we all wear IFF transponders

i have no issue with a rare anti-materiel rifle, but rather have a russian or chinese model like the OSV-96. also, ammo should be rare. and by rare i mean the chance of finding one single bullet should equal the dayz mods chance of finding one single can of mountain dew.

i am positively surprised how diverse the looks can be with the current rather limited set of items we have at our disposal in the alpha. looking forward to more diversity in the clothing departement, and an end to the obscene overabundance of military loot, that surely will create even more diverse looks
-
considering the usual equipment everybody in this game seems to try to wear, lets take a look at "real life" conditions..: can you tell me which of the persons in the picture is the glasswearing ginger, and which is the rastafari? seriously though, the clothing system already makes a good promise of high diversity. if you have similarly clothed people, friendly fire will occur, as expected. i dont think we should take this - very real - element out of the game. it would "dumb it down".

Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
Element47 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
what a bunch of bullcrap. apart from the fact, that this thread isnt the right place for this discussion. scavenging for equipment and ressources is a core gameplay element. the hardships of finding water and food, the malnourishment and its effects, the decisions you make when the most basic ressources are so scarce that they threaten your survival, thats what originally spawned the idea of DayZ after that life-changing experience Dean had during his survival excersise in Brunei. Getting "geared" should take days, over many play sessions. it is not supposed to be equivalent to quick-shopping loadouts like in counterstrike. it should be hard, frustrating, and even tedious at times. as Dean said last year "When I originally scoped the mod out, I wanted it to be very brutal, and I wanted the finding of your first weapon to be a real event for the player." If you cannot find joy in such kind of game, then maybe this game isnt for you. -
spawn point data is being gathered, its pretty normal that players are confined to a limited selection to focus on certain data. alpha testing as usual. as for current selection, solnichny is the perfect spawn imho. you can either go up to berezino, jump into the wild into the polana/dolina/staroye triangle (my preferred area) or head south along the coast into the killing fields of elektro, each route providing something for different playstyles, each allowing to gather basic gear to be able to participate in the game within minutes.

to me it seems that sometimes there are issues with loading your char data from the hive. then, the server will treat you as a new player and let you create a new character. this character then overwrites the data of your old character when the server syncs back to the hive, and your old character is lost. if you start the game, and dont see your geared character on the start screen, it hasnt loaded from the hive. dont join a server then.

the alpha has currently only one weapon that can be used as a sniper weapon, thats the Mosin Nagant carbine of WW2 fame. it can be found in a multitude of places, not only in military locations. i found two in police cars parked in front of stores. similarly, attachments for the Mosin like scope or bayonett can be found in diverse settlements

off topic, but the new scenery in the north is awesome. i climbed in the cliffs north of Guba yesterday, beautiful spots there. as for ammo, i carry maybe 90 rounds for the M4 and 40 rounds for the Magnum, but i'm not in the killing business..

did you try deleting local content and installing fresh? your screenshot looks like a bugged login screen, i had similar interface issue once but blindly clicked where i knew the menu was supposed to be and the next reload fixed it for me.

DayZ is NOT fun for new players, which makes me worried.

"You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day" :beans: -
except i cannot bring myself to spend a few hundred bucks on a SSD just so DayZ runs on par with other games. I hope/expect/demand more optimization from the SA than from the mod.
