great idea, so i end up with 50 different chars scattered across the world, and permadeath will lose any relevance, because i wont even notice one more or less character.. private hives only would be a cancer

servers come and go. imagine managing to survive for weeks, and suddenly you cant login anymore because the admin took the server down/cant pay for it anymore.. imagine you have two hours time for gaming in the evening after your bring the kids to bed, but its the time the admin uses for his three hour server maintenance imagine you finally convinced a friend to give the game a try and want to give him some gear to get him started, but your server is full imagine all the people, living for today..

its alpha, there will be data loss, gamebreaking bugs, and character wipes for the next year. but it think its not only an alpha issue. OP lacks comprehension what permadeath means. WHEN YOU DIE, YOU LOSE EVERYTHING. thats the great thing in DayZ. this will be a great thing in future too. If you dont like it, then you probably wont enjoy the game. edit:

collision is so wonky at the moment, you could drive trains through buildings....

"I dont complain and i know that its alpha but <complain about alpha status>, <complain about alpha status> and <complain about alpha status>" damn, they should make that a template when you start a new thread, it would make life easier for all those people.... at least there is hope.

A suggestion that could change the way everyone plays dayz and add more realism.

the large New York blackout in the seventies led to massive looting and rioting. only one day without power in one of the most civilized cities of the western world ended with over a thousand shops vandalized and thousands of arrests in the aftermath of the hurricane Katrina, chaos prevailed, from home owners scared of looters taking up arms against every stranger entering their neighborhood, over police officers switching sides and joining looters, to outright "KoS" murder in the instance of the Danziger Bridge shootings in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, many areas turned lawless, with scavengers and looters fighting to the death over scraps, home and business owners lynching looters, and police shooting to kill. among the stories that made western media was the teenage girl shot dead for saving a few colourful paintings from a wrecked store, and the little kid nearly stoned to death by looters, miraculously saved by a CNN reporter who was covering the unrest.. during catastrophic events, the most extreme aspects of human nature surface. from extreme heroism to extreme vile. i have no doubt that what we witness on the game servers is not too far away from reality. and thats probably the appeal of this game, which rocket - not without reason - refers to as social experiment -

the problem with any system of similar approach is determining the context of an action. what is the reason and motivation, what are the circumstances, that make this specific action either illegitimate or justified. often, its impossible for a jury of smart people to decide, and thus it is completely beyond the scope of a software. -
big highs, big lows. the emotional rollercoaster is captivating, like a good thriller.

although the combat flag mechanics are different, it works fine in EvE Online. in EvE, you have a 5 minute timer when engaged a NPC and a 15 minute timer when engaged a player. if you logoff during the timer, your avatar remains visible and attackable until the timer runs out, thus emphasizing the importance of a safe log-off. presuming a proper combat/engagement flag mechanic is implemented, this could work well for DayZ too.

Level KOS with share/trade, earlier sound warnings and shout option
Element47 replied to mike miller's topic in Suggestions
KOS happens mainly because - dominating others is the easiest and fastest form of satisfaction with the least risk of disappointment and highest degree of control, as opposed to collaboration which bears the risk of failure and requires a certain level of involvement and dependance on others - people are asshats. psychologically, most instances of killing on sight (and similarly griefing or related actions) come down to control. players who feel the need to control others within virtual worlds will search for ways to do so, and there is little in the ways of game mechanics to prevent this, without actually crippling or removing that particular mechanic which is being (ab-)used. generally, i think there are some great suggestions in your post - but i rather doubt they would significantly impact the amount of KoS incidents. Currently, the subjectively high amount of KoS is most probably due to massive influx of new players. it means that there are many who have not learned to successfully avoid high-threat situations, and also that there is an increased amount of people who feel insecure within the game world, countering it with the fast-reward control mechanism of dominating others where possible. -
fo sho, like, really, man. totally there with you.

Dayz Standalone will not survive without epoch style base building
Element47 replied to papermilk's topic in Suggestions
never played epoch, though really liked the concept from reading. -
Welcome to the forums. enjoy yourself, never be afraid to state an unpopular opinion, dont worry about opposition to your ideas. despite contrary reports, most are pretty friendly and forthcoming, but also impulsive and passionate. have fun!

well... i think you might need to do some research as to what kind of game you bought there.. this is not your run-of-the-mill MMO with meta-events. there are no points except those that measure your blood, energy and water level. the events are generated by the players, and involve gruesome acts of violence most of the times. so no, i sincerely doubt we will have collectable eggs for easter celebration, misteltoe and rednosed reindeers for christmas, moon-cake for the mid-autumn festival or special lamps and candles for diwali. und das ist gut so. edit: no need to delete it - your suggestion was not well recieved, this happens. never mind, look ahead :) hope you still enjoy the game.

Color degradation from blood loss has to go (loss of visual fidelity)
