how does weight massively change turn rate whether in a building or outside?
-
you seem to miss the point, that the linked video shows not a single thing that would be engine-specific. we see graphical assets, some post-processing, and a weather system. show me one thing in this video that is specific to the arma 3 engine

Reduce The Common Lag In Dayz [Tutorial]
Element47 replied to Sanitöter's topic in General Discussion
i was trying to wrap my head around the ramifications of the described procedure for UDP streams.. but i have only a B.Sc. in comp science, so i learn new things everyday.. thanks, i feared i has the dumbs now -
its a heavily disputed approach to simulate realism, i presume due to the gravitational forces of the walls todays thread discussing this topic would be this: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/169744-raw-mouse-input-is-crucial-to-immersion/ enter at own risk edit: and yes, its horrible.

http://feedback.dayzgame.com/ this should be common knowledge for anyone alphatesting ;) (its also linked in the pinned "read BEFORE posting" thread in this very subforum)

i dont think "stupid looking" and "desync" is something that needs an introduction. its at the core of gameplay already, isnt it? :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hljunPcn1A

so you're saying it fits the ArmA GUI perfectly? :D

TIL the DMR is not a weapon. never noticed before... X)

there are several imaginable solutions to the issue at hand, but its clear that an issue it is. and with actual firefights making maybe 2% of my dayz gameplay, while the spastic mouse movement affecting 100%, i really couldnt care less what self-proclaimed SpecOps veterans say about real combat not represented sufficiently in a mouse-controlled video game

Off line mode for viewing of character and inventory
Element47 replied to blueleader's topic in General Discussion
storage and basebuilding is on the agenda, so you will be able to store items which you do not want to carry around. server browser and much of the GUI is still pretty raw, the feature you refer to is pretty baseline and i am sure it will be added at some point -
1. just because it is suitable for tactical training, doesnt mean its suitable as a game. you dont see me playing with a whiteboard and markers in the evening, although thats the #1 training tool 2. VBS is designed to teach tactics, procedures and doctrine. it simulates only the aspects necessary to do so. it fails at properly representing aspects not related to this goal. 3. the idea that governement/military spending is directed by quality first made my day. if this suddenly became true, i would lose my job ;)

i dont care about "twitch shooting" i dont care what causes it - and i am not going to install a regfix on OS level for ONE SINGLE GAME, when i'm fine with all the other games. fact is, moving - not combat - just moving, walking into houses, basically playing the game - is horrible with the current input solution. its nauseating. its inconsistently changing. it feels like playing while having drunk too much, you know, the point where every movement is untolerable and you just want to lay down, close your eyes and fucking stop moving. and its persistent through every single second of gameplay, while all other issues are situational. yes, IMHO this is currently the largest issue in the game. edit: so why does it change from agile-like-a-ferret in the center of a room to immobile-like-a-dead-whale when standing 1m closer to a wall?

this is a post-apocalyptic world. chances are pretty high that units of resistance against infected have barricaded themselves in civilian structures, that retreating forces created strongpoints and caches in places not originally meant as military outposts. on the other hand, wandering survivor groups most probably brought the most trivial stuff into every corner of the game world. so while it does make sense that military installations have a higher chance to yield military loot, and apartement houses a higher chance to spawn books, every single loot spawn in the game should have a chance of spawning every single item available in the game, with an appropriately tuned spawn chance

its definitely Sergej.... just kidding.. hurray for Deans vision and dedication.

not everyone is blessed with the Gift of Search. it is upon us bestowed with it to help wherever we can. also, the idea of carrying unconcious or immobilized (maybe even restrained) people is great and im pretty positive that it will come at some point.

Tips needed from those who are good at the game
Element47 replied to dayy's topic in New Player Discussion
if you spawn in the south-east - and thats pretty probable - my favoured route is: Dolina -> factory -> Polana -> Gorka -> Novy/Stary Sobor -> military base [at this point you should be geared up and hit healthy status] -> Vybor -> NWAF [is the tent city at the airfield still attachment heaven?] -> north through the forest of Bashnya -> new installation north of Bashnya -> east to Gvozdno -> Krasnostav -> NEAF -> Svetlojarsk -> Berezino -> back to Polana you are now fully geared, healthy, backpack full, and have the options of hitting the east coast for action, move to the woods around Staroye which are a great staging ground for any offensive leading south, or move north-west for some cat&mouse game in the fields.. depending on how comfortable you are around the map and how long you take to check the respective settlements, you might not manage to do the run in one night, but we have a weekend coming up, right? :) -
because you always nom threads before i can derail them in my uniquely witty fashion.... i still heart you

stumbled upon this one today: IP resolves to plusserver/intergenia, which isnt among the "officlal" GSP, right? am i missing something? EDIT: just noticed the thread about GSPs having colos with other companies.. so, the players are again at disadvantage? obfuscation to omit abuse reports? meh, im braindead after a long day. sending mail to multiplay now. pls disregard :-/

the reason why this topic generates such a heat is because of the inflammatory phrasing. by accusing every voip user of cheating, you tell each of them to the face "you are scum, a swindler, a trickster, you abuse and exploit and circumvent game mechanics to create an unfair advantage and ruin the game for us poor honest players, everyone of you evil cheating swine". of course its generating a passionate response. (and despite your assurance i am still not convinced that the topic wasnt made with trolling in mind, otherwise you could have used the other threads on this topic) if you were to say "using third party voip as a coordinated player group allows for a tactical advantage in combat" i'd be the first to say "well, thats sure true."

excellent change, and definitely not too early. sounds like exact the gameplay this game is aiming for. great news if what you described is becoming more and more common.

the youtuber frankieonpc coined the term "bambi" for new, unexperienced players. it went from a funny connotation to an unnervingly overused phrase, mostly pronounced by self-proclaimed veterans, looking down on new players doing newb stuff. it has nothing to do with being a freshspawn though. nowadays if a player uses this term, he either wants to appear to others as a veteran, condescendingly looking down on new players, or he uses this term because he saw others use it, but has no idea about its meaning - nicely demonstrated in this thread where people refer to freshspawns as "bambis".. so "bambi" has basically become another linguistic ulcer like "yolo" or "swag", metastasizing through social media, disconnected from its original meaning so yeah, dont use "bambi" because cancer. this may constitute a rant on my part. just sayin'.
