MREs have been probably used by the emergency response teams during outbreak containment, so we might find some later once loot tables are complete

Charging people money to help you "make" a game....

blast you, thread necromancers... -
yeah i found an Unknown Entity standing in the middle of the road once, with a soldier zombie at his side, moaning, bleeding, and looking around all the time... bandaged him after disposing of the zombie, even glitches deserve some mercy

again, dear brother in arms, i have to disagree. not the product "doing the best job" wins a governement contract, but the one best lobbied. and once you sold your product once, you usually get all follow-up contracts because changing to a competitor would require everybody already familiar with the system be retrained.

skill progression wont happen. many do not want it, and iirc dean stated it does not fit the vision. If you would follow what Dean and the dev team actually communicate to the community, you'd know all the survival focus that is planned, like an exposure system inspired by the Frostfall mod (he is actually in touch with the dev of that mod due to this), or improvised weapons like makeshift bow and hunting/fishing taking an important role in maintaining your character healthy stats and appearance have been positively discussed by the community. considering the fact that Dean is a stat whore i am sure we will see a lot of possible numbers available to the player to base bragging rights on.

there surely exists a middle ground between arena shooter 1:1 mouse control and current FUBAR nauseatingly arbitrary mouseSpeed = rand() % 100 + 1; version, right?

carefully formed search strings in the suggestions subforum will reveal several discussion threads to every single of the points you bring up, which i am sure you are aware of. we have more than enough post-farming threads where the same arguments are repeated again and again...

movement is clunky, and turning rate seems to change arbitrary... like if you walk into a house, want to turn to leave it again and it changes turning speed randomly while you are turning.. some people will claim its "realism", because apparently the gravitational forces of the walls slow your turning rate when you look at them, but dont slow you donw when you dont look at them.. or something...

its not about a certain time period. its about proliferation. there were around 45.000.000 mosins of different variants built since its introduction in the 1890s in Russia/SU, with many nations producing licensed versions.. 45 different nations used Mosins at some point in the military, from Afghanistan over Finland to Israel. SU stockpiled large amounts of well-preserved rifles which flooded the markets after the fall of the Union. Now, how many M4 carbines, manufactered since mid90s, do you think were introduced during the emergency response to the apocalypse in comparison?

The current implementation of the logout timer is trollish.
Element47 replied to airtonix (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
i have often left the airfield to the north, only to drop into some foliage for the night. the new system will actually force you to scan your back and wait for possible followers, maybe even 'bait' by assuming the logout position and waiting.. this might add new layer of tension & gameplay - looking forward to it -
but thats metagaming thus considered cheating by a vocal part of the community, right? =) also, as you die, your new character should not possess the knowledge of your previous incarnations, so the toxicity of berry types should be random like blood type, right? RIGHT GUYS? /sarcasm

my idea was: if you can hear a shot: combat flagged. if you can see (means it is within your FOV) someone using a weapon (fists, melee, improvised gas bomb, gun, whatever): combat flagged. if you use a weapon (see above): combat flagged. -

i wouldnt even mind if switching servers would put you on the coast again every time.. -

dont get me wrong, i think the current logout timer on the exp build is a tremendous improvement, and i love it. its better than nothing. i am just convinced that there is room for improvement, and i hope the dev team does look at ways to improve it. -

i never play DayZ if i dont have at least 2 hours time. thats usually after all my work is done and my wife went to bed. I am convinced it is not a game you should be able to just casually jump in and have the possibility to casually jump out anytime within seconds. hence why i advocate a 5-minute logout timer during which you are in control of your character, but during which any offensive action would reset the timer. edit: except maybe the inability to code a proper combat state solution with the means at hand... -

Element47 replied to airtonix (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
In EvE there is a combat state checked aganst, and you have full control of your character until the timer runs out, at which point you then can instantly log out. I would love EvEs system of a 5-minute combat timer here, but i honestly doubt that the current combination of technology (engine) and ressources (devteam) allow for that.. -
i have yet to see a hacker in DayZ.. i watched towelliees livestream though when he came across a guy who spawned a house in the middle of cherno and drove it around, so there's that.. but thats actually not unexpected, there is still a lot of legacy code and the whole codebase is still a WIP, so there is definitely room for exploits. its obviously not comparable to the mod (oh the thunderdome) and im pretty impressed with it so far

Mouse acclertation. Can it be turned off?

<snarky gif removed. apologies, i had a long day> yes. -
it depends on your setup. there have been several reports of game performance increases in Win 8, but its not massive. toms hardware benchmarks have shown an increase of 0.5 - 2 FPS, so its not really justifying a switch, if you prefer win7 otherwise. but benchmarks have been done with "clean" systems. rigs like mine would profit from a clean install no matter what version :D

What Alpha Is Supposed To Be (A Discussion On Dev Direction And If The Game Will Ever Be Completed)
Element47 replied to jovlon's topic in General Discussion
thank you so much. +1 -
i dare to question though, whether removing the 'drunkness' from mouse input (not arguing in favor of a pure 1:1 ratio here) really would be detrimental and lead to an arcade-style shooter. as stated above, actualy shooting makes a very small fraction of gameplay for me (and many among my friends) - the fact that pan speed constantly changes (mind it, without me changing loadout) when walking around a building for example is really breaking it for me. i wouldnt be against implementing a "high adrenaline" state, where all the jerkiness i so loathe at the moment returns as soon as the player enter combat state. but currently, merely exploring the buildings of a settlement is really horrible from input/interaction point of view.
